28. They’re coming

CAMERON'S POV

"You know your sister and Eli aren't far from us, right?" I asked, seeing how my best friend and sister-in-law were sitting at a safe distance from us. "I know. They followed me even though I told them it wasn't necessary" she responded, rolling her eyes. "They only care about you, darling," I pointed out and Lara snorted. "If they came, it's because they don't trust you. They were afraid you were still angry and would tell me to go to hell" my wife replied, and I let out a small laugh, because I understood where those two were coming from, I wasn't going to do it. I may have been angry when I left the house, but I needed to clear my head a little, nothing more. They didn't have to worry about anything

"What if we decide the names for the children now?" I asked my wife who was smiling "I like all the names we have Cameron, and I honestly don't know how we can decide" she answered, and I nodded, because for a long time we had the names for both sexes, but we had not decided on none yet. "What if we write them on small pieces of paper and take out one for each sex?" I asked, sitting up and looking at her.

"That's a good idea" she muttered, and I quickly got up to go get a piece of paper home. "Where are you supposed to go now, Edwards?" My wife asked in an annoyed tone, "Don't worry, honey, I'm just going to get a piece of paper home. It won't take more than two minutes" I assured, and she nodded, focusing her gaze on the sea.

I think since I had the prosthesis, I hadn't run so fast and although I'm happy to have at least achieved that, I think part of it's because I'm afraid of Lara's reaction if it took more than the two minutes I had said, she'll be upset. I know it's something that bothers her, when she reacts badly for stupid reasons like she says, but I know that it's the hormones that run through her body that make her overreact, so I don't take it the wrong way.

When I reached her again, I could see all her muscles were tense, and her jaw clenched, so I quickly approached her and stood in front of her, taking one of her hands so she would focus her attention on me. "Is something wrong with you, love?" I asked worried. Lara took a breath and began to relax her muscles. "There's nothing wrong with me, just a cramp in my knee," she said, putting her hand on the knee she had surgery on years ago. "Are you sure it's just that?" I asked and she nodded "It's just that, really. Now let's better decide the names of the children, because honestly, I would like to have them before they born."

I sat down next to her and began to write down the names we had selected. Once I finished, I cut them out, folded them in half and mixed them together, leaving my hands within Lara's reach so she could pick up a piece of paper. "Take one and I'll take it the other one" I say with a big smile on my face. Lara stared at the papers in my hands for a few seconds and then picked one up. "What name do we have?" I asked nervously and dying to know what name had come out. "Jax, the boy will be called Jax" my wife said with a big smile on her face. "Now it's my turn," I said with a big smile and passing the papers to Lara, who mixed them up and I stared at the papers as I had done. When I took out one of the papers, I opened it and a big smile appeared on my face. "Tell me at least it's a girl's name" Lara asked with a smile on her face. "It is. Her name will be Lúa" I said with a big smile on my face, and it is at that moment I drop another paper, which we both stared at for a few seconds "And of course, you had to pick up two papers" Lara pointed out, rolling her eyes.

"That wasn't my intention" I said, and Lara ended up picking up the paper to see what it's written "Violet. At least it's a girl's name" she responded, and I kept looking at her "Does that mean that Lúa will have two names?" I asked curiously and Lara shrugged her shoulders. "It's the method we chose to find out the children's names, and even though they don't work, it's what it is, I'll always blame you when the girl complains her names don't even stick together" she responded seriously and I couldn't help but laugh "I didn't mean to" I protested and Lara shrugged her shoulders "But you were the one who got two names, not me" my wife responded with a big smile on her face.

"Okay, we'll blame me" I nodded and the smile on Lara's face widened "I was going to do it anyway, whether you agreed or not" she assured, and I laughed again "Let's go home so you can be comfortable. I can see you don't stop moving" I pointed out and she nodded "Help me get up, please" she asked and I quickly got up to help her, but the moment he got up, she stopped dead in her tracks and looked down "Shit" Lara muttered and I frowned, looking in the same direction and not seeing anything "What's happening? Are you okay?" I asked, tensing up. "Tell them to go get a car" she murmured and squeezed my hand. "I'll tell them, but why?" I asked, looking for the girls that I couldn't see right now. "They're coming" Lara said, loosening her grip on my hand and I stared at her for a few seconds trying to understand what she had just said.

"BIANCA! Cam honey, this isn't the time for you to be still" my wife said, putting her hand on my cheek so I could focus on her, and I shook my head, because she's right, it's not the time for that "I know, I know. I'm sorry." With that, I put one of my arms around her back and the other under her knees and picked her up, causing her to squeal in surprise.

"What's happening? Are you calling me so I can see how happy you are? Because I can assure you, I could see it from where I was" said my sister-in-law and both Lara and I denied "Go to your mother's house and get her car. Let it be quick" I said, starting to walk towards our house. "Why do you need my mother's car?" The girl asked, confused. "The kids are coming, and I can't drive if I want to be with Lara." I responded and I could see how the size of my sister-in-law's eyes increased. "It's okay, it's okay. Let's go" Eli said with a smile on her face and pulling her wife's arm, so she started walking.

Not much later, we got home, and I left Lara on the couch while I started looking for the things we prepared to take to the hospital. "What are you looking for?" asked my mother, who I had completely forgotten was in our house. "Looking for things to go to the hospital" I said without looking in her direction. "Are they coming?" My mother asked in an excited tone, and I nodded, picking up the bag with the children's things. "They're coming. Could you go to Lara if she needs anything?" I asked, turning in her direction and she nodded, leaving the room and letting me look for what I needed to grab.

Once I finished, I ran down the stairs, left the things next to Lara and stood in front of her on my knees and took her hand in mine. "Did you have any more contractions?" I asked and she denied it with a small smile on her face. "I think we have a little more time than you're afraid of" she responded, letting out a small laugh, but ended up squeezing my hand harder than before. I looked at the clock and saw half hour had passed, so Bianca and Eli must have been getting home.

"Everything's fine." I said, trying, I don't know very well, but the moment she gives me a murderous look, I know she didn't really like us saying "I know everything will be fine, I don't need you to tell me" she responded in an annoyed tone and I could see how my mother appeared in the living room denying and giving a glass to Lara, who accepted. "I recommend you not say things like that. It's not something we like to hear when we're going through probably the biggest pain of our lives" my mother whispered in my ear to which I nodded.

A few minutes later, Bianca enters the house, with Carmela, her mother and Eli behind her, the last three approaching where we were. "Estás segura que esta vez están vindo?" (Are you sure they're really coming this time?)" Carmela asked and I couldn't help but frown. "I thought the same thing this morning, but I'm still having contractions and my water broke" my wife responded and if it weren't for the fact at this moment I had more in a hurry to get to the hospital than anything else, it would have bothered me she didn't tell me she had been having contractions since this morning.

"What are we waiting for?" Bianca asked, approaching where we were and standing next to me. "Do you need me to help you with my sister?" Bianca asked, and I could see the murderous look Lara sent her "No, there's no need. I hope you drive the fastest you've ever driven. The contractions are every twenty-five minutes" I pointed out and she nodded "Let's go then, because I assure you the last thing, I want is for my nephews to be born in the car."

With that, everyone moved away from where they were and I helped my wife to stand up, and I was going to pick her up if it weren't for the fact she told me in an annoyed tone she could walk, which made both her mother and grandmother burst into laughter. Also, if it weren't for Eli, I would forget to take the children's bags. In no more than half an hour, we arrived at the hospital, and if it had not been for the police officers who had stopped Bianca for speeding to help us get to the hospital sooner, we wouldn't have arrived in such a short time.

Eli was the first to get out of the car to ask the medical staff to help us, since the contractions are twenty minutes apart. It doesn't take long to send us to a room and Lara's obstetrician appears in the door with a smile on her face "It looks like these little ones want to come out now. Let me take a look at you" she asked kindly, and all my wife did was nod.

The minutes went by, and the doctor didn't leave at any time since she said they would be born soon, and apparently, she had nothing to do other than report. She also laughed when Lara yelled at me for anything I said and blamed me for going through that pain because of me, which I accepted because I know she doesn't really think that and she's not mad at me, which helped keep me calm.

Once the doctor said Lara should start pushing, I sat behind her and grabbed her hands so she could squeeze with all her strength. First the girl was born, our little Lúa, and no more than ten minutes later, Jax was born. Lara's tired smile said it all, and the truth is that I couldn't do anything other than smile like a maniac. I still couldn't believe I'm a father and loved my wife as much as I love her right now.

While the nurses were cleaning my wife and the doctor making sure everything is okay with our children, I kissed Lara on the temple and the moment she turned her head, I gave her a kiss on the lips. "I love you, Lara. More than anyone in this world" I murmured with a smile on my face "I love you Cam" she said with her eyes half closed, probably tired since she hadn't been sleeping well for a couple of nights "Rest, you deserve it" I murmured and I could see how she denied "Not until I see the kids."

"Well, here you have them" said the doctor with a big smile on her face and leaving the children on Lara's chest, who looks towards them, and a big smile appears on her face, with all her attention on them. I couldn't help but take out my phone and take a photo of them. I stared at them until Lara looked at me, tears gathering in her eyes, so I walked over and kissed her on the temple. "Why don't you take your kids?" She asked and my smile widened. "Are you sure you want me to take them?" I asked and she nodded.

"You better sit down so I can pick them both up," pointed out the doctor, who I had completely forgotten was there. I nodded and sat in the chair next to Lara. The doctor took one Jax and placed him on one side of my chest and then took Lúa, leaving her next to her brother. I couldn't help but stare at them like a fool. They had been born not more than an hour ago and I already loved them more than anything in this world. Not five minutes had passed since I had picked up the children, when I turned to look at my wife, I saw she had fallen asleep looking in our direction with a smile on her face.

Almost an hour later, they take us to a room, and it doesn't take long for the girls to enter the room, coming in my direction and the first one to grab one of them is Carmela, who ends up having a big smile on her face, and Bianca grabs the other one. "Girls, meet Lúa Violet and Jax Gallego Edwards" I said in a proud tone. "Gallego Edwards?" Eli asked with a big smile on her face and caressing Jax's head. "Yeah, we didn't care, and let's just say we like to do the complete opposite of the rest, so we decided to put Lara's last name first" I answered, and My mother laughed. "It fits me" she said.

"Are you going to tell me you named the poor girl, Lúa Violeta? "If they don't mix well at all" Bianca said seriously, but with a smile on her face. "Lara thinks the same thing" I pointed out, knowing everyone would end up knowing the story of Lúa's name. "So why do you name her like that?" She asked confused "Let your sister tell you that story. But I can assure you it wasn't our intention to give her the middle name" I pointed out and Bianca frowned. "I promise you the story will be worth waiting for" I assured, and she nodded.

It doesn't take long for my mother to appear at my side while Bianca handed Jax to Rita and Carmela handed Lúa to Eli. "Lara didn't tell you anything because I asked her not to tell you anything" my mother said after a few minutes looking in the direction of the girls. "She already told me, but I know she wouldn't tell me anyway. Not until she made sure of what they were saying" I said, completely convinced she would do it "Maybe, but anyway I wanted to tell you it wasn't her idea. What's more, she suddenly found out and offered to help me."

A small smile appeared on my face, because I knew the moment she found out what was bothering my mother, she was going to offer to help her, and now I think about it, it could fit with some days when she was more stressed. "Don't be angry with her at least for what she has done" mom asked, and I denied "I'm not angry with her, I promise you that. But then we trust them?" I asked since it's something I hadn't asked Lara. "Lara says we can trust them" she informed, and I nodded. "Do you think we'll go see them in a few days?" I questioned and I could see the surprise on my mother's face "Are you sure you want to do it? I can go alone" she assured, and I denied, because even though I wouldn't like to be separated from Lara and the children for much time, I also wanted to support my mother in this. "Of course I want to do it, don't worry about that" I asked, and she nodded, both of us focusing our gaze on the girls and my children.
