Leftover woman (part 1)

Lily's eyes fluttered as the sunlight hit her face, after a few seconds of adjusting, she opened them. Her gaze wandered around the room. This was not her room... where the hell was she?

"Good morning, wife." A husky voice sounded from beside her. Lily whipped her head around and gasped.

She narrowed her eyes "Who's your wife?" she said.

Leonard's gaze turned cold. "Did you forget what you did last night, wife?"

Suddenly a series of images flashed in her memory. She was starting to remember what had happened yesterday.

What had she done!

Lily's eyes widened with shock at recollecting what had happened. She looked at Leonard and then her gaze fell on the wedding ring she was wearing.

Leonard smirked at her reaction, her thoughts were apparent on her face.

"It seems you remember everything now" He said and gazed at the wedding ring she was wearing, satisfied.

It had been a month since Lily had become Leonard's personal chef. After the incident, Leonard had recovered quickly, taking hardly a week. Since that day, Lily had barely gotten to see her employer. Today was the day that she received her first salary and she was extremely happy. Not only about her salary but also about having entered the quarter finals on the show.

A sad smile appeared on her face as she started thinking about how she wished that she could celebrate with her parents and grandfather. But she pushed those thoughts away and headed for the mall to buy something for Tulip and little bun. Atleast she had a good friend and her godchild to celebrate with.

Lily wandering around the mall for a bit, looking for something suitable to be a gift. She caught sight of a small and simple pendant which was placed on display at a jewelry store. She checked the price and found that it fit in her budget and decided to get it.

She entered the store to buy it but her luck was pretty bad that day as she crossed paths with Zachary's mother. His mother was addressed as Madam Lawrence since the death of his grandmother, 2 years ago. Since then she was the only mistress of the Lawrence family.

Madam Lawrence smiled mockingly when her gaze fell on Lily.

"Look who just showed up. How interesting that a poor person like you could afford jewellery from here. It seems you hooked up with an old rich man."

Lily ignored her, she didn't want to deal with her bullshit.

Seeing Lily ignoring her, Madam Lawrence sneered, her blood was boiling. "You slut, who do you think you are?" she yelled.

Beside her, a young woman was standing, trying to calm her down. This young woman was none other than Zachary's childhood sweetheart, Alice who had returned from abroad after hearing that Zachary and Lily had divorced.

"Mother don't get angry, it's not good for your health." Alice said on the surface, however, it was clear that she was happy to see Lily being humiliated. 'This is what you get for going after a taken man' she thought.

Madam Lawrence's gaze softened hearing Alice's concern. "I can see why my son is crazy about you. You are such a gentle woman." Her gaze shifted back to Lily.

"But this slut is nothing but a nuisance for our family. How could she stir up such trouble on the day of my father in law's birthday? God knows what sort of black magic she cast on my father in law to be so bent on getting her married to my son. But I'm glad he got to see the real face of this scheming bitch. Since the day she married my son, he didn't get any peace in his life. But I'm glad that my son divorced her. Now she is nothing but his leftovers. Who will want to pick up someone else's leftovers? Even her parents didn't want her and cut off their relationship with her. A slut is always a slut. Standing in this shop means that she must have found a sugar daddy. This is what happens to a leftover woman." Madam Lawrence threw one humiliating word after another and laugh at Lily's supposedly miserable state.

The staff of the store were whispering to each other and throwing looks of disgust at her. The manager of the shop didn't want to anger Madam Lawrence, who belongs to an influential family, and so he told Lily to leave the shop with a cold face.

Lily coldly looked at everyone in the room. "One day you will all regret this. All of you will receive your retribution." She said.

Someone snickered at her words "A slut talking about retribution… it doesn't suit her".

Madam Lawrence and Alice were enjoying watching the humiliation Lily was facing.

Without saying anything more, Lily left the store. A tear rolled down her cheek. She harshly wiped it away but the tears didn't stop. Soon, her face was wet from her tears. She never wanted to be in a loveless marriage. She never did anything to the Lawrence family for them to hurt her the way they did. Her happiness never lasted long, very quickly sorrow would take its place. One of the things they said really got to her and kept ringing in her head, constantly growing louder.
