"Why do I feel like you've discovered more magical applications than multiple generations before you?" Lord Edmond asked his grandson.

Nicholas could see the pride in the old man's eyes. He knew that his grandfather had prepared to never meet him alive.

Most families only met their princes twice, when they were born and when they were buried.

Some with good relationships with the king were permitted to see the princes, those that came from the same clan as the king were often more favored.

Yet there were others, whose mother's the king particularly liked, those were given privileges that others didn't.

Lady Liira, Nicholas' mother would have been one such favored wife, unfortunately she ran not long after Nicholas' birth.
