A Breakfast Composed of Arrogance

«Die! Die! Die!»

"NO!" I screamed

I rose up. I was shaking,my hands trembling, tears dripping and sweat down my forehead.

I don't want to die!

I took a deep breath.

It is okay. I won't die. I'm okay. I'm alright. I'm alive.

I calmed down and observed my surroundings.

I was on a pale blue bed. A weird painting on the top and curtains surrounding me.

This is not my bed?

No nevermind,it is mine. I became a princess.

I opened the curtains and saw the room.

A chandelier which looked so fragile that it could fall at any seconds.

A desk at the right, glass vanity at the left,a changing room at the side of the vanity and a door leading to the bathroom. Entering the bathroom,there was a bathtub,a toilet,a working sink.

"This place is pretty fancy."

The room overall was pretty grand.Well at least,it was ten times bigger than my original commoner room.

"As expected of the royal palace,taxing a big number for the working class just to see gold everyday. Pretty unfair isn't it?"

I washed myself using a towel,brushed my teeth,and took out fresh clothes from my bag.

"This room is so unfamiliar. Like staying in an inn! But permanently?Am I going to stay here forever? Or will the king change his mind?"

*Knock knock knock*

Who?

"Princess are you awake?" A high pitch voice was heard.

It's Blossom.

"Come in!"

"Princess!You're already awake?!" She entered.

"Yes? It's seven? Shouldn't I be awake?"

"..."

"Not really? The other princesses wake up at nine,and the king wakes up at eight."

"..."

I guess it was my habit of waking up early.

"Princess!"

"Yes?"

"You already washed yourself, brushed your teeth,wore your clothes and brushed your hair!?"

"Yes? Isn't this what any humans do?"

"..."

"Yes! B-But..This is my job..I have to tend you,princess!"

"Oh..I'm sorry! I- I didn't know! This is just what I normally do everyday.."

"Please do not apologize to this lowly servant princess! It was my fault for not arriving earlier!"

"But it's partly my fault too!"

"Princess, people will sneer at you for apologizing to a maid! Please refrain from doing so.."

"I..Alright,I understand."

"Would you like me to recite your schedule, princess?"

"Okay."

"You have a breakfast meeting with his highness and the others at ten. Then You will have to choose one royal escort. A meeting with your future tutors. A lunch will be arranged at one in the afternoon. We shall also take a tour on the third floor,which is where you are right now. Does that sound good?"

"Ok." I guess I have a lot of meetings and exploring to do.

"Princess Moonlight has arrived!" The door opened revealing a large dining room. The family dining room,according to Blossom,there are several rooms for eating.

There I saw the king on the end of the table. There were also my "relatives".

According to the book,the king sits at the end of the table.On the other end,was the queen's seat,though it was empty.On his side was all of his consorts. All children must sit next to their mother. There was also an importance order,the less importance you have,the farthest your seat is. I was placed at the end near the empty seat.The person next to me was a six year old girl,with pigtails. The person in front of me was one of the less important concubines.

The king shook his hand,signalling the servants to distribute the food.

The table was filled with delicious food,more precisely a full English breakfast.Each person had a plate served.

"Good morning everyone,I hope you have slept well."

"We thank your majesty." The whole party chanted.

"You may start your breakfast."

"..." The whole whole room went quiet,and started eating.

All ate with grace and dignity.

"..."

I picked a fork and a knife,trying to copy the other's movements.

"..Pff.."Small snickerings were heard.

"..." I was confused,what did I do wrong?

Blossom who was behind me,came up and whispered in my ear. "Ahem...Princess,the fork you are using is the wrong,you should use the bigger one.The one you're holding is for fish.The knife is also wrong.You should use a butter knife to spread your butter."

"Oh..Thank you…"

"It's my pleasure,princess." She replied and went back in line with the other servant.

I grabbed a bigger fork and the butter knife.

"Cough. That girl there is a new member of the monarchy.Please meet Moonlight." The king announced.

"..."The room went cold.

"Mother,she's now my step-sister?" One of the princess voiced out.

"Isn't she an illegitimate child?" Another whispered.

"Where is her mother?"

"Was her mother a servant?"

"Look at her shabby clothes."

"A commoner dared to disgrace the royal family?"

"How could she be here.She doesn't belong here."

Low insults were thrown at my face.I couldn't bear it. I was at the point of crying.

Suddenly,a small voice was heard.

"Hello Moonlight! I'm Ava!Nice to meet you!"

A pair of big and cute deep blue eyes were looking at me.Blue eyes like mine,and the king's,meaning we were half siblings.She was the blond little girl in two pigtails sitting on my right.

"Hi..Ava.."

"Hehe..This is my big sister,Alice,my brother Alfred,and my mommy, Ece!"

Next to the little girl was her older sister,brother and mother she talked about.The sister resembled her small sister,the only difference was her green eyes.The brother had brown hair and green eyes,taking all of his mother's genes.

"Greetings,Princess Alice,Prince Alfred and her royal consort, Ece."

"..." Ece turned her head,humphed along. What is wrong with this woman.

Seeing her mother turn away,Alice was a little displeased. "Nice to meet you Princess Moonlight.As my sister introduced,I am Alice."

I smiled at her.She was still nice to me even though her mother was dissatisfied with me.

Her kindness brought me a little joy,maybe we could be friends seeing that we were the same age.

In the end,the mother and son pair never talked to me during breakfast.

"Big sister! Mommy is angry at you because you called her, "her royal consort"! She also said that she will become the queen! Hehe.."

"..." Innocence and cuteness mixed..Such a bliss! Wait a minute..Queen.She said Queen.

I eyed the seat next to me, the queen's seat.Did the queen have an accident? What happened to the queen for her to step down from the crown? Does that mean Ece will be the next queen?

"..."

The table went quiet.

I noticed the king putting down his ustensiles in a certain way.His fork and knife side by side,in a 4 o' clock position. "Ahem..Well,I hope you had a good meal and a GOOD meeting with Moonlight..If you excuse,I shall take my leave." He said and left the room.

"Glory to the father of this kingdom." All said,stood up and curtsied.

Once the king declares or stops eating,all have to stop their dinner too. It's such an idiotic rule!

There was still a third of my meal that was left untouched...

"..." A moment of silence was then interrupted.

"Haha haha!" Snickerings and whispers were again heard,but weren't directed to the same person as before.

"She thinks she can be queen?"

"Haha..She dreams too much!"

"Tsk. Just because she had three children with the king doesn't mean she WILL become the queen." The voices became louder and louder.

"Listen my child,don't listen to this wicked woman.She will never be queen! It's your mother who will be."

"Shameless!"

The whole dining room went into a war zone. Loud screams and curses were heard.

The kind,calm,and elegant the women once had before the king was soon thrown out like some piece of mask covering this disgusting attitude.

"Ha! That's why I'm going to become his queen! Are you stupid or something dame Scarlet?" Ece questioned.

Scarlet was offended. "You!"

Ece also suggested, "Don't you see that his majesty likes me more than any of you,even the old queen! I have his three children!You know what that means don't you?Ha!"

"Y-You!"

"Cat got your tongues,ladies?" Ece added.

"Narcissist!"

I trembled,I was scared. All these screams,they were so loud.I'm terrified.Please make it stop!

I have enough! Why are they such cry babies? Queen,queen this,QUEEN that! Why are they so obsessed with this title! Why? My ears are going to bleed at this point!

*Knock knock* Everybody's heads were turned towards the door.

"Ladies,Khador kingdom's two prince have come for a visit. Please prepare yourselves to greet him."

"Alright!" They all said as if nothing happened,and leaving one by one with their child.

The door closed,leaving a poor figure in the half messed up space.
