The value of a hero

This is a story about Doryoku Suzuki, a kid whose powerful and uncontrollable quirk gave him many problems throughout his life, and who unlike everyone else, his only dream and goal is to help his mother instead of being a hero. —The story mostly takes place at the same time as when Aizawa was studying at the U.A. —Bnha and the image on the cover don't belong to me obviously. —Any advice to improve the writing is welcome.

Internships with Last laser: Part 9

After a few minutes, or maybe an hour (something Doryoku wasn't too sure about), a local hero passed through the park on a routine patrol, so Doryoku called the police.

After a couple of minutes of explanation, plus some negotiation to keep himself or Last Laser out of trouble, the local hero finally called the police.

Many runners or just people enjoying a walk looked at the situation quite curiously and gave their applause to the local hero.

Doryoku got up still quite wobbly but at least managed to walk, then calmly walked towards the home of Last laser.

This one still kept his hands closed, something that was very difficult to explain to the local hero, but in the end he also managed to solve it.

Doryoku was quite nervous yet to open his hands, it was quite possible not to say almost certainly that that hummingbird was in pieces, although he did not feel any glass cutting his palms, but perhaps it was because his hand already hurt enough and it could be a-.

Doryoku shook his head and stopped overthinking before he went too far, then deactivated his bracelet with his teeth to give himself a better chance and kept walking towards Last laser's home.

'Haaa, I love mornings' Doryoku thought letting out a rather calm sigh as the cold and relaxing morning breeze calmed him down quite a bit and he calmly walked away from that park.

Doryoku was lost for a moment actually, mostly because he paid too much attention to his walk, but after a few minutes he was about to reach Last laser's home... Or what was left.

Despite knowing the strength of his master, Doryoku was still a bit nervous that he wouldn't find him there yet, so as he got closer he walked more and more slowly.

Last laser's house was almost completely destroyed... Apparently those destroyed walls were supportive, although at least it wasn't just rubble and it was still standing.

Doryoku used the main door even though there was a large hole to enter right next to it, and looked around to see if he found Last laser.

Some pieces of the second floor had fallen and everything was full of dust as well as small pieces of rubble, apart from that it was almost disturbing to see that everything was out of place.

Doryoku kept going through the living room and the second floor (which was much better than the first floor) still without finding Last laser.

And as Doryoku began to imagine the worst and checked the kitchen as the last possible place, he heard a faint sound.

*Crick*

Doryoku followed said noise despite only hearing it once, and exited through the other large hole in the kitchen that led to the 'backyard' so to speak.

There, he could see Last Laser standing with his back to him, which caused him to release a large amount of air that he didn't even know he had contained.

Still, looking closer Doryoku could see that Last laser had in his hands the pieces of that beautiful glass box.

As he got closer, he noticed that Last laser was still with the same expression as always, only letting out a very big and long sigh.

Still, Doryoku could instantly understand how sad he felt, even though he didn't know much about expressions, he knew perfectly well how sad someone was without being able to express it.

He looked at his hands still quite nervously and opened them slowly and quite reluctantly.

Doryoku opened his hands abruptly, but averting his gaze so as not to see instantly.

He turned his head little by little and looking closely he could see that the little hummingbird was...

Intact.

This caused a spiral of feelings in Doryoku that ranged from absolute relaxation and happiness to wondering how the hell it was even possible.

He was sure he had stopped thinking about the hummingbird at least once while he was fighting, so it wasn't something he planned, it was something than just happened.

Still, Doryoku decided to interrupt Last laser with little friendliness actually, placing the little hummingbird in his hands with extreme care.

Last laser's expression changed to one of surprise almost instantly, before opening the fingers of his hands quite carefully, letting the small pieces of the crystal case fall out.

Seeing the little crystal hummingbird without any damage, Last laser smiled slightly, in fact, this made him quite happy actually.

"I owe you one boy, one too big" Last laser said quite gratefully as he held the little hummingbird in his hand with extreme care and smiled slightly.

At those words Doryoku felt pretty good about himself, only this time, unlike the previous ones, the feeling was much stronger and much more rewarding after so much effort.

And another difference was Doryoku's big smile, one of complete satisfaction at having spared someone else's suffering.

"Then let me see if I understand, you faced two would-be assassins with one of them being an emitter, your biggest weakness, without hands?" Last laser said with a blank expression as he sat on the sofa after cleaning it up in what was left of his home.

"Yes I know, I almost deserve the damage I received" Doryoku said tiredly also sitting on an armchair while he hugged his backpack so as not to lose it again.

"That explains your purple hand, by the way what happened to you there? That doesn't seem like a common blow" Last laser said with a more satisfied tone instantly understanding and quickly noticing Doryoku's purple hand.

"From what I understand a part of my blood dried up and it hurts when I move it" Doryoku said with a somewhat pained expression not being able to close his right hand very well due to a strange sensation in it.

"Hmmm, maybe we should take you to the hospital, let me see" Last laser said getting up from his seat to check Doryoku's hand more closely.

Checking Doryoku's hand, Last Laser noticed that his blood was getting coagulated on his fingers, that's why it was purple.

He placed Doryoku's hand in his own palm and pricked his own finger against his palm, feeling something hard inside his hand and causing Doryoku to instantly groan.

"I think you have something similar to a scab inside your palm, that's why the blood can't pass normally and your hand turned purple, you will definitely have to go to the hospital" said Last laser with a thoughtful tone as Doryoku moved his palm away so as not to be stabbed again.

"I-I don't get along very well with hospitals, b-but okay" Doryoku said a little scared but quickly understanding the seriousness of the matter.

"It would be better to go now, I doubt there is any procedure for internal dried blood... At least not a very common one" Last laser said with a warning tone while Doryoku seemed a little far away in his thoughts.

"Hey, pay attention" Last laser said giving Doryoku's forehead a light tap to get him out of his very fast and uncontrolled train of thought.

"Ugh, sorry, I was thinking how I would explain that in the end I did face a mafia to Okā-chan" Doryoku said with quite a bit of concern about that as Last laser heaved a tired sigh.

"Let's just go, the longer we take the more your situation will take" Last laser said walking towards the door, despite the fact that the large hole in the wall was still available.

Doryoku put his backpack on his back, and followed Last Laser quite nervously to go to the hospital.

After Doryoku's kick and being unconscious for a few minutes, Kanbatsu woke up quickly after this...

The main thing that woke him up was a huge explosion that made his whole body tremble, and noticing that the test subject was responsible for hitting his superior, he decided that it was best to just leave.

He noticed how the target could barely move, but it wasn't really worth it, it wasn't like they were going to pay him or give him anything for eliminating him, besides it was already getting light and the mornings were always full of heroes.

Kanbatsu walked quite quickly at first but then calmly enough not to arouse suspicion, and so he continued until he reached one of the bases in this district.

The place was quite difficult for anyone to find and it was also very difficult to suspect, why? Simple, it was one of the government offices...

Kanbatsu walked through the building keeping his cool despite receiving a few dubious glances at his degraded appearance, and so he continued until he reached the furthest cubicle in the building.

Upon arrival, he was able to see a fairly small place, with two chairs and a somewhat elderly woman, who was very concentrated reviewing some documents.

He had already come before everything with his superior, and he had to admit that, he was very hesitant to talk about what had happened.

What's more, for a moment he thought about just not coming here, but knowing where he was, it was like rolling a dice whose sides were all the same except one.

Kanbatsu took a seat and the woman looked up for a brief second, to see who had arrived.

"Oh, you're the new one, where are the other two?" The elderly woman said straight to the point and showing almost no change in her voice or expression.

"Well, something curious happened you know? It turns out that Last laser was much better than what he told us and he arrived at the place instantly, I was barely able to escape" said Kanbatsu quite confidently and without stuttering at any time, proving to be a perfect liar.

"Interesting, but you are too sure, almost as if you had already perfectly rehearsed what you would say" said the woman noticing that Kanbatsu's report was too fast and too sure, too much to be what really happened.

"Tell the truth, will you? You would do me a great favor" said the woman with a slight friendly smile, too kind.

Kanbatsu felt something very like a breath on the back of his neck because of this, if he had learned anything, it was that people who cause fear indirectly are thousands of times worse than those who simply yell.

Having no other choice, he made up his mind to tell everything that happened with the utmost honesty, including escaping from him so as not to be caught.

The woman frowned slightly for less than a second judging his words, and after that second...

"I see, I guess I already have the job for you" said the woman nodding slightly and taking Kanbatsu by surprise.

"You'll be an informant, it's what suits you best, I guess you agree" the woman said quite calmly as she looked at Kanbatsu.

"What about that guy who was of such importance in the organization?" Kanbatsu said keeping as calm as possible to get information that mattered to him.

"Yes it is your field, as a reward I will tell you, that element already had a much better replacement, trying the Trigger with Last laser was the last mission, it was obvious that he was going to lose according to the boss, but we already know how good the Trigger effect is thanks to the cameras around" said the woman nodding again and giving a fairly quick explanation and with some details that only made Kanbatsu know perfectly where he was.

Kanbatsu got up from his seat and simply left, only being able to breathe easily again being so far away from the place.

But there was no turning back, he had to keep going, the higher you were, the less replaceable you would be, even if the difference was so minimal.

Hey, sorry for the delay but lately I have a lot to do Irl.

For the next a note in the author's diary, for now just a good day.
