Wary

There was some rustling.

I posed in front of the spyhole in case she was looking through it. After a couple of minutes, the door opened. The girl pointed a knife at me, her eyes wide. She jabbed the knife in my direction, demanding, "How did you find me here?"

I put my hands up. "Was not expecting this."

She was being rather aggressive. I pushed the knife aside gently, telling her, "I'm not here to hurt you. I'm here to warn you."

"Warn me?"

"Your life will be in danger," I explained.

"How did you find me in here?" She demanded, stepping away and keeping the knife between us.

I let out a sigh. "I have some connections. What's so surprising?"

She was obviously quite wary. No idea why though. She's literally facing a baker at the moment.

"If you could give me time to explain, that would be real swell," I told her. "Also, did I mention your life is in danger?"

"They can't find me in here," She muttered.

"You're talking about the people chasing you, right?" I asked. "Yeah, they probably wouldn't find you in here. But how about these new people trying to find you? They're definitely going to find you, and when they do, they'll kill you before you even notice it."

"I'm grateful that you helped me, but leave me alone!"

She slammed the door shut in my face. Well, if the other Elementals want to attack her, they could very easily do so. Especially Dark, Light, Earth, Space and Nature... Wait, that's just all of them. Well, whatever happens, happens, I guess. I just got to wait for tomorrow.

I got to the elevator. After hesitating for a bit, I hit the button to go down.

Tenth Basement.

It was a floor that others would not be allowed to go to. When the doors slid open, there were security guards lined up, all their firearms ready to shoot. I put a hand up, telling them, "It's me, don't need to be alarmed. Shoot me if you want, doesn't make a difference."

I stepped out and they opened fire.

When the shooting stopped, I glanced over at the leader of the group. "Is this really necessary?"

The holes in my body closed up as a pool of metal gathered behind me. The leader saluted, telling me, "It is to ensure that you are not being impersonated."

I sighed and continued walking down the hallway.

There was a slight gust of wind down the hallway despite it being so far underground.

I stopped in front of a transparent wall.

"Air."

On the other side, was a girl. She had black hair tied into a ponytail. She was sprawled across the ground, just staring at the ceiling. On the back of her right hand was a scar of three gusts of wind. She turned to face me, her eyes empty and sparkling like a child's. She sat up, two white feathery wings appearing on her back. She spread her wings and flew closer to where I was, a wide smile on her face.

She pressed a hand on the wall, staring directly into my eyes.

"I'm sure you've heard of the game Creation has made," I told her.

She nodded.

"I heard that you aren't participating," I continued. "Neither is Water, can you believe it?"

She tilted her head.

"So... anything interesting been happening in here recently?" I asked.

She nodded excitedly. She wrote with her finger on the transparent wall each letter individually.

'It's so peaceful in here'

"Peaceful, huh?" I said.

She nodded excitedly.

"The human I'm supposed to protect is also in this building," I told her. "There might be a ruckus, but don't worry too much about it."

Air nodded with enthusiasm.

There was some silence.

"Will you ever want to leave?" I asked.

She shook her head.

Air spread her wings and vanished. A gust of wind blew against me as Air appeared beside me. She had a wide smile on her face as she spread her arms to hug me. It was only momentarily as the guards at the end of the hallway started shouting. Air reappeared on the other side of the wall once again.

I turned back, saying to the guards, "Don't point your weapons at her."

She sat on the ground, playing with her fingers.

"I'll visit again if I have the time," I told her.

She gave me a thumbs up.

I knocked on the wall. "Until next time then."

She knocked back.

When the door of the elevator finally closed, I let out a long sigh. This whole competition thing is going to be rather difficult if the human I'm supposed to protect doesn't want me to protect them. Looking at the rules, perhaps it was better for me to not get close to her. It's not like the other Elementals would know what she looked like.

It's going to be fine.

After stepping out of the club, I was immediately met with a girl who was standing in a dark corner. She had long silky black hair and pale eyes. I looked off to the side when I first noticed her, saying, "The competition's tomorrow, don't be too hasty."

Right above her right eye was a scar of a crescent moon. She smiled, revealing her long canine teeth. She replied, "I know."

"So how's it going with Heaven and Hell?" I asked. "Heard there was some trouble?"

"Doesn't concern you," She folded her arms, leaning against the wall.

I let out a sigh. "Dark, why are you stalking me?"

"So that I know where every human is," She said simply, shrugging as she did so. "No worries, I don't intend to enter that building."

"How polite," I responded sarcastically.

"But the moment that human of yours steps out..."

"Thanks for the warning," I walked past her. "I'll take that into consideration."

I turned back, saying, "Hey, you heard that Water isn't participating?"

"I know, shocking!" She agreed before clearing her throat.

"I don't suppose you'll tell me where your human is?" I asked.

"Nope."

Dark stretched and yawned before vanishing into the shadows. Well, starting tomorrow, it seems that it would be a rather interesting day for everyone. I suppose Dark would tell the other Elementals about the building, perhaps even the exact location of the girl I was supposed to protect. Damn... maybe I shouldn't have visited her.
