THE NANNY

she laughed delightly as they begged for mercy....

Later

Ji-ah took Yeon for a stroll to the morgue as he expected. She wanted to finish things with the ghosts, so she wanted Yeon to call the girls out. They were excited to see a fox, but he beckoned them over. He rap them each on the head with paper roll

"You girls shouldn't bother human beings, especially not her"

Ji-ah kneeled down to ask their names and pulls up an article. Isn't this them?

....

In the funeral hall, the father of the little girls was reading the article with tearful eyes, which said the girls were neglected and they fell off the balcony of their home, when their father had been absent from for days.

Ji-ah decided to visit the girls' father and said that she's a neighborhood friend. Ji-ah asked and tried to console him and he shares that his brother usually looked after the kids while he used to drive his truck, but on the day they died, his brother had an interview.

Ji-ah looked at the box of cherries he was holding

"Aren't those cherries bought by you for you daughters?"

"Yes but they never ate them because I was the one who bought them , I am a terrible father"

After saying those words he started crying.

Ji-ah asked him to step out with her for a minute. Elsewhere, Yeon was holding the girls' uncle over the incinerator and asked if he molested the girls. The man refused, Yeon then twisting his wrist asked again then he cried that he drank too much and the girls fell from the top while running from him.

He turned to beg for mercy but sees his brother who heard it all. Ji-ah holded him back as he screamed his brother is a beast and assures him the police are on their way.

She consoles the distraught father, saying the girls didn't eat the cherries because they treasured them, they loved the cherries so much that they didn't want to eat them. Ji-ah watched with tears in their eyes while the girls cry and hug their sobbing father who can't see them.

At the junkyard, the rescued dog followed Rang out, wagging its tail. Yoo-ri observed it and suggested taking it with them.

Rang recalled the memory where, little Rang held his dying dog and cried in the ashes of the burnt mountain. He couldn't bring himself to end its suffering and cried for Yeon, but there was no answer.

He boldly said they a dog's lifespan is too short and leaved the injured dog behind.

But Yoo-ri didn't agree and told the dog to come along.

...

Yeon and Ji-ah sent the ghost girls off to the immigration office and turned to find the rest of the horde of children staring solemnly at them.

Aw, Yeon sends them shuffling away and tells Ji-ah that they're children who died long ago with no chance of righting wrongs against them.

To keep parents from holding onto their dead child, they used to bury kids in unmarked graves.

"No matter the time period, a parent's pain upon losing a child is the same."

Ji-ah warmly smiled at him

"You seem different."

She sincerely thanked him for everything.

It suddenly started raining, so Yeon makes use of his sword umbrella to cover them and mockingly asks Ji-ah whether she's buying him food or alcohol to show her appreciation.

He walks away, and Ji-ah uses the "I lost my umbrella" trick to share his. (she left her umbrella on the bench only)

Both of them romantically walk in the rain with shy smiles and giddiness.

Ji-ah turned towards yeon

"Why do you always carry the red umbrella around"

"Because getting wet messes up with my 'fur'"

Ji-ah laughed that it's like dogs who dislike baths. Ji-ah noted that she caught him because of that umbrella, although he argues, that he let her catch him.

Later they went to a bar to have some drinks and while talking Yeon was indignant that Ji-ah hasn't seen Toy Story 3 and calls it a kids' movie.

She preferred action and horror, like Mad Max and zombie movies. Although their tastes in entertainment differ, they share a love for Korean food and raise a toast to having few friends.

After some drinks, Ji-ah asks what his dreams are. Yeon already lives a luxurious life with access to all he wants. But, he admits, his unattainable dream is to be human.

Ji-ah thinks he's lucky and goes on a rant about the difficulties of average people's lives. He offers to eliminate her broadcasting station if it's giving her a hard time. Heh.

Yeon also asks Ji-ah the same question and Ji-ah replied that her only dream is to be with her parents. Yeon stared at her for a minute and then ask her to send a photo of them to him.

On the walk home, Ji-ah blamed her drunken stumbling and said

" aiyaaa~ why is it so dark here? Can't u magically turn on the lights?"

"You should submit a request to district office"

"Ppfft. Useless fox"

Ofc the last words were said under her breath...

At her gate, they were reluctant to part.

As Ji-ah headed inside, two fireflies hover around her, and she realized that the fireflies when she was little were Yeon's doing. Yeon watches her from a distance with a satisfied smile.

At Ji-ah's office, Jae-hwan notices an interesting write-in about a missing mother who recently took on a babysitting job. And is that the nanny that might've been.....eaten?

Over at the Afterlife Immigration Office

Hyun Eui-ong was giving a presentation to the little girl ghosts about how they'll be building a stone pile (that might get pushed over by goblins) in children's hell. They can be reincarnated if they succeed in building the stone pile.

The girls were scared to go to hell, but he assured them it'll be just like building with toy blocks. The younger one wanted to bring her toys, Hyun Eui-ong looked at Taluipa in silent supplication, but she clearly denied the request.

Their little faces light up to see Yeon walk in. He chided Taluipa for being too inflexible and secretly slips the toy into the older girl's hand, telling her to take care of her little sister.
