Ilona used all her strength to drag Mason along the ledge back towards the cave as fast as she could. Her pulse was racing, and her breaths were coming quickly, but she couldn't stop. The sooner they were in the cave, the sooner they would be safe from the dragons.
Her eyes darted to the sky over and over, expecting the grey monster from the beach to suddenly appear again and swoop down to take them. She couldn't let that happen. She had to get them to safety.
The sun had risen now, and Ilona's stomach growled angrily with hunger. She added that to her growing list of things she would need to take care of for them. If she was hungry, then Mason would be hungry as well.
He was also freezing and still not awake. Ilona needed to take care of both of those things.
