Chapter 24

“That’s settled, then,” Father said, “and here we are at the main entrance. If I’m not overwhelmed with matters requiring my urgent attention, I may join you for a soak after a bit.”

Our car headed up the drive leading to the castle and turned onto what appeared to be a circular drive around its perimeter. Once we were on the opposite side of the castle from its entrance, Trevor turned again and drove up to the entrance of one of the three buildings I’d seen from the air. I did a quick count of exterior windows and determined that it contained six floors. We exited the car and followed Trevor and my father up a couple of steps and into a sort of reception area. A man in a business suit spotted my father, took his arm, and walked with him to the left, talking nonstop as they walked.

Trevor said, “Follow me,” and led us down a short corridor to a pair of elevators.

“That’s nice,” Dani said, “an elevator in a medieval castle.”
