Chapter 23

"We've been talking to the cops, they said they'll have to put you in an adoption center, since your not old enough to live on your own yet." Ann's mother, Hope, started, slowly reaching into her coat pocket. "And, with the loss of Ann, it'd be pretty empty, so we thought...." Her husband, Anthony, added, as she finished pulling out some papers. "We could take you in, if you wanted us to." He wanted to say something, but a lump formed in his throat, so he just stared at them, shocked. They wanted to take him into their home? They actually liked him? "Well?" Ann asked him, smiling, standing behind her parents. He nodded. "Oh, my gosh, that's great! OK, sign the paper, and it'll be done." Hope said, excited, and smiling. Anthony handed him a pen, smiling as well, and said, "We'll be the parents you never had, Jack." Their was some type of kindness in his eyes, which reminded Jack of Ann when she smiled, and it made him happy. He took the pen, and signed his name, falling off the bed when Hope gave a scream of delight. Oliver helped him up, and held him steady, asking if Jack was ok. "Its fine, I'm fine, bae. Just....." "You don't like loud noises." Oliver finished for him, smiling. "Exactly. Thanks, babe." He pecked Oliver on the cheek. "No problem, sweetie." Jack groaned. "You know I don't like that nickname." "And you know I like to get on your nerves." He smirked, pleased with himself. "Oh, you are are thin ice, baby." That seemed to ruin his ego and his smirk. "As cute as this is, we've got to run these by the agency, so we'll be back to visit." Anthony said, and Hope nodded, then they were gone. Today hadn't been so bad. Better than last night, that's for sure.
