Ajax and Joss sat with Metas in total privacy, and had even chosen their canine forms to keep the noise level down. Using their 'sniff' system was much better than making use of their human ones.
"Oh boy, Mets... Uhh..." Ajax started with apprehension as he looked down to the ground where Metas had drawn out the items Cassandra had earlier.
Joss' face was stoic, but his eyes were hiding deep worry. He knew of a few of these things from his love of reading, but most of the books left down in the tunnels were either not entirely intact, or they were deemed useless.
"I know enough to understand how Plutonium is made..." Joss informed as he put his snout towards the dirt to really inspect the depicted weapons.
"The humans would take natural elements such as Uranium and use it for power sources. The by-product of that, was Plutonium," he went on and brought his front paw up to his nose in contemplation.
"According to the readings of Nuclear Fission - one of my favorites, just because of the diagrams and big words," Joss spoke as though he were merely conversing with the two. "It's basically all one big reaction. Plutonium generates a lot of energy when certain atoms pierce the byproduct. Essentially, it will cause a giant fissure that multiplies energy when impacted heavily to its core," he wanted to go on, but Ajax interrupted him.
"That thing? It's so small compared to the others, though. Why aren't we worried about these?" Ajax asked as he pointed to the cylindrical weapons that smoothed out into tips (rockets).
"Those aren't nuclear-powered. They explode, but not like this thing does. Some guy named Einstein calculated that a tiny amount of something can lead to a tremendous amount of energy. Point is, they'll need a way to manufacture it, and then they'd have to figure out a way to detonate it away from themselves - and even then, it would destroy the mountain and everything around it. This tiny little thing can really destroy things. Plus, once the humans figured out how to enhance their weapons with magic, it got a lot more potent. I don't know if those are enchanted or not, but knowing humans - I'd caution that they were very much imbued with magics," Joss concluded and let out a snuff of disapproval.
"We're lucky they didn't wipe the rest of us out, too. If we didn't have stronger, more ancient magic in the past to use against them, I don't think anything would be here anymore. I mean, seriously - I've read about some people in human history that are just...wow awful." Joss added and then tacked on another fact as his brain started to recall all the words he had memorized.
"I mean, that thing - this thing this little fish-boxtail looking thing. They dropped that on a City like...tens of thousands of years ago - and it was instant death. Plus, afterwards people mutated like those Vampires do to themselves, but not controlled or useful. We're talking boils, burns, scars, and worst of all - nuclear fallout that when inhaled either killed you quickly, or gave you some slow death called cancer."
"...Holy fuck, man. Just lay it on a little rougher why don't you?" Ajax said with exasperation.
"He asked. It's dire information, simply pussyfooting about it won't do. They can set it off if it is struck hard enough, but - that would kill everyone within the vicinity. It's why the humans used to drop them from massive heights in flying machines called airplanes. They'd get far enough away before the thing detonated and hit them. Falling take a surprising amount of time, you know." The scholarly blue-silver coated wolf said as easily as though he were giving over a cake recipe to a friend.
"Goddess. Do you think they know that?" Ajax asked.
"I would hope so...." Joss answered.
"I was hoping you could tell me that, Ajax. For fuck's sake. This has really gone from bad to phenomenally worse." Metas answered and let out a sigh.
"I don't think they do, I mean - I was up there in the higher echelons and we never learned anything but our own weapons and magics. Human stuff was still forbidden. If word gets down to anyone who really cares or understands this stuff like Joss, I have every confidence there would be a revolt in an instant," Ajax answered with a bit of certainty - but not much.
"It would be mutual destruction should they stoop so low. I don't know much about these other weapons, though - but if it's anything like the stuff I read in that book, they'll need something massive to set it off." Joss tacked on with far more confidence than Ajax had.
"So is it something I should worry about?" Metas looked to Joss for advisement. He knew /of/ these items - not how they worked.
"Nah. I mean, honestly - if they do it, you won't care for long. That stuff burns up everything instantly. We're close enough that we would feel nothing, and we'd be gone in a singular pop." Joss replied easily with a casual shrug.
"Fucking hell, man. Stop talking so casually. I'm terrified at this point," Ajax said and looked over to the cool-headed male who just leaned his head back so that he could scratch the back of his ear with his hind-leg.
"They can't do anything with it unless they're stupid....or they know really old rune magic. I think that art died in our society eons ago. Don't they use glyphs and natural veins of magic now?" Joss looked to Metas for answers now.
"Some still know old rune magic, unfortunately. For the most part, yes - crystals are enchanted with glyphs or potent veins of magic...but one still needs to know either the runes or glyphs to be able to put said property into said crystal. Only warlocks have access to it, and they're rather wise, but Silas has proved to be crazed with insanity - and no one can win against that other than annihilation," Metas returned, and sounded much more at ease now.
"If they do somehow put runes on that Plutonium, though -we're all pretty fucked. Let's hope your warlocks are as wise as you say," Ajax said with a grunt at the end of his 'words'.
"Just like everything else with this revolution - hope is what we're riding on in the first place. Let's keep to it. It hasn't failed us yet..." Metas trailed off.
"...operative word being 'yet'..." the Alpha added with a bitter taste in his mouth as he huffed out each word through his nose.
Thank you so much for reading!
I hope your day is treating you as amazingly as you are (which is pretty amazing).
