[As of 11/30/23 this novel's ROUGH DRAFT is COMPLETED] [Warning: 18+ Content! - cursing, dark themes, sexual content, and other adult matters are present - NOTE: there is NO 'knotting' in this story for both those who come looking for it, and those who want to avoid it. I just wanted to give a head's up either way. LGBTQ+ representation is also in this novel. :)] This is book one of the Ylphasia series. War, betrayal, loss, growth - none of these things were aspects of life that Myranda had in mind when she finally met her destined mate. The only problem was that her chosen was someone she absolutely despised - Prince Metas, the next rightful King to the Lycan Kingdom. From the bottom rungs of society, everything above her seemed like a dream - it was too bad her preconceived notions were far from wrong. In their journey to make a brighter future for their entire kingdom, Metas and Myranda learn that there is so much more to just being mates than their shared love. As they navigate the complications of starting a revolution, both Metas and Myranda discover just how compatible they actually are - and how much their paring means for the future of their kind. ----------------------------------------------------- [EXCERPT] "If you want my place so much, you should challenge me when the time comes. This is cowardice. You think I can beat you-no...You know I can beat you, and so you're trying to hurt Myranda to make me weaker. You're a bastard, a cheat and a liar, and you don't deserve to rule over our kingdom - and you never will. You have no valor, no honor - and no moral compass," Metas spat towards him, and kept his hair up on end involuntarily. "I'm drunk right now and easily pushed you over like a small paper bag filled with shit. Since you've so brilliantly shown what you'd truly like to do, I'll make sure she is safe from you. Meanwhile, perhaps you should train or learn better tactics from your papa," Metas continued, and even grinned with delight. "Even if you beat me in combat, the rest of those in power want to see you fall. You won't last," Silas warned, and reformed into his mortal self. "...but I do intend on challenging you. Unless you want to kill me right here and now since you're so confident." "There is no honor in killing you without the glory of showing you exactly what I am capable of in front of everyone. I will take Joss' advice and do nothing for now. I don't want to throw away honor for revenge. If you come near her again, I will kill you before you ever get the chance to prance around in front of high society with a little speech, and show off to your wife and no friends. Understand?" Metas asked menacingly, and now his gums were visible as saliva dripped from his lips and teeth, barely holding himself back. "I will drink your blood through your eye sockets if you lay one more fucking claw on her - understood?" Metas warned as he advanced towards the blonde male. "You letting me live will be the biggest regret of your life, Metas. Hold those words close to your heart when you lose everything to me," Silas sneered and turned away, but not before he locked eyes with Joss with a dare in his green orbs.

Keeping Order

"General, that would be highly inadvisable," an old male with no hair on his head, and a salt and pepper beard said as he sat uncomfortably in the square office.

"...Why can't we just have it target certain bloodlines? If I can just get rid of Metas, that's all I need," Harbinger replied with thinned lips and an angry expression.

"You...want to get rid of the last line to the 'Firsts'? How will we operate the magical vaults and treasury?" The mage asked with uncertainty.

"Not entirely..." Harbinger started with a sinister smile.

"Silas found a way to reanimate the blood of our dead king. It can last centuries - especially if we keep the magical time field around him. It will last centuries if you and the other mages keep it working," the General continued with force.

"General, that is....It's not a wise idea. Plutonium is human-made. It's impact on the earth is terrible, and the magic imbued into is is too potent to control. You'd be risking our entire species at the hope of ridding the house of a single rat. I have done everything you have asked without question, but this is not something that can be done safely," the warlock went on with a frown. He hoped his past loyalty would pay off at this moment, and so the reminder was crucial.

"I don't care about the past, Salizar. I care about today and tomorrow. If that bastard and his bitch of a mate comes back in here, he will undue all the order and control our colony needs. If they knew the truth about the Ferals raging war, and the fact we're keeping peace by feeding them the last of the bin of society, they will revolt." Harbinger argued and slammed his fist on the desk in agitation.

"Silas has failed me for the very last time on this issue. I need results. I need him dead, or better yet -- kill the bitch at his side. No Alpha is ever respected without a Luna. Just get rid of one of them, I prefer Metas as his blood is literal gold to the functionality of this mountain - but if you kill the ugly cunt at his side, it will do just as much damage," he finished and raised his jowls to expose his teeth to the old man.

"Yes, General - I understand your requirements. May I please try other alternatives before we risk blessing Plutonium with magic? The veins here are deep and connected. Should one source become tainted-"

"I know exactly what you're going to say, so just shut it. I'm not asking for a huge amount. I just want a tiny little bit - just enough to kill him or end his campaign," Harbinger interrupted and waved the wobbling warlock off.

"Sir, you don't understand - one tiny object has the potential to cause a massive amount of damage. Given the properties of the metal, it's unadvised to enchant it or use it in any way. Cities have been lost, mountains destroyed - cultures wiped out because of a small amount of Plutonium. Even before the humans learned to harness it with magic it was deadly. We would be risking everything..." the poor male could only argue the best he could against the tyrant who held all the power.

"This makes no sense, Salizar. I don't want excuses. I want results. If you can't bring me what I need, I'll find someone else who will," Harbinger spat and began to click his sharp nails against the wood he coveted so dearly.

Magus Salizar stared into the cold blue eyes of the white lycan who sat in front of him. He could read that he did not care, and he was not going to stop until he got what he wanted. The old male knew he could sit here and try to explain the repercussions until he was purple in the face, and the General wouldn't change his mind.

The problem was that he knew of those who would - and those who would do such dangerous things would have absolutely no problem pushing the boundaries of alchemy. He couldn't let that happen.

"Very well, General. I'll start searching for a way to control destruction. I am sure if you give me time, I can find something that will work that will meet your specification, until then - I have put a spell on the entrances to keep Metas out, and our lower sectors in. With the new group of wolves brought in from the nearby village, the tunnels are getting cramped and unhappy. We're making teas to help calm them. Once we get it to them in mass, their tempers will calm. If we just make a little rumor that someone liberated the tea from high society, they'll drink it with wanton," Salizar explained at length in hopes it would calm the General and keep him happy.

It was one thing to keep order. It was another to destroy nature in the efforts of doing so. The humans did that, and the destruction was so bad, that nearly everyone died out.

He wouldn't let that happen again. He couldn't.

"That's a fantastic idea, Salizar. I love your little schemes. This is why I know you're capable of so much more than you think. We need to stop this before it gets any worse...and we'll need a new Alpha. Silas isn't fit for it. Yes, he's easy to control - but he is still a sniveling child and he let my daughter get captured. While you work on that weapon, have the others on the council scout for potential leaders we can control. Preferably someone with a quiet, timid mate. One who knows where her mouth belongs," Harbinger replied with a dark smile, and gave one laugh to his own "joke".

"As you ask, we shall deliver. We serve to keep order, and nothing more. We will have a suitable replacement for you in three days time," Salizar gave him a deep, venerable bow and avoided looking into the cold eyes glaring upon him.

"Very good. Add Silas to the barrier as well. I don't want him back in here. If I have to look at the face of that disappointment again, I'm going to make it everyone's problem. Do you understand? He only brings chaos. His use is up, and you must keep him from coming in here and ruining more of what we've all worked so hard to keep." The General said with a satisfied face that was marred with sinister vibes flowing off of him like venom from a tooth.

"As you ask, so I abide General," Salizar said and walked out backwards while keeping his bowed position as though if he stood, it would cause him to vaporize into thin air.

Is order really attainable? I'm not sure. We're too unpredictable to control. Something always goes haywire.

Sure, it's good to have laws and social rest -- but order? Order is subjective. My desk is surrounded in knick-knacks and pictures. It looks like chaos to others, but to me there is order in how I group parts of my life....

Just remember - one order is not the same as all orders. Much like fast food, we've all got out own tastes. ;)

Maybe Harbinger should chew on that for a bit, hmm?
