The Golden Chain

Athanasia Gruwéigh, who graduate with the highest honor at the most prestigious university in Glovarno and was recognized as the best doctor against poison, decided to stay at her home, the golden forest and met a chained man in the middle of it. Athanasia’s interest in the man grew stronger as she slowly unfolds the mysteries around him.  Marcus Parham, chained and captive inside the most poisonous forest is awaiting his death when a golden-haired woman fell into his cage. As his annoyance grew towards the woman another emotion is slowly surfacing inside him. Both are in the forest, one is chained and one is free. As they try to unlock the chain that is bounding Marcus, a series of forbidden locks was also unlocked. Misfortunes surfaced and the cost of the key is a huge prize to pay.  ----------- (ON-HOLD) She grinned happily as she looked at Marcus who was now staring blankly at her. She felt strangely happy. Tingles erupted on her body as she looked at him. She felt excited, excited to give her gifts to him, and excited to see him up close. It was a strange feeling. Maybe because she rarely see him and she was not used to being around him or she just kissed him taking care of someone trapped in the forest. "Have you missed me?" She asked as she grins at him. His expression didn't change as he looked at her blankly. Athanasia wasn't exactly surprised by the reaction so she just went near him cautiously. She didn't forget to cast a protective spell around her as she walked toward him. She needs to be cautious because he's still a dark one, who hates her kind. "Hawdy was outside again. You should take care of your fox more." She said as she slowly takes a step closer to him. "You shouldn't treat him as your bodyguard." She continued, now she's close to where his chains will allow him. Sound of chains getting dragged echoed. He stood up from his seat and he glared at her. Suddenly, he was in front of her. He moved as fast as a wind that she didn't even notice it. They stood face to face with each other. They were inches away from each other. She can clearly see the color of his obsidian eyes, his thick eyebrows, and his red lips. She can almost hear his steady heartbeat. Her heart went crazy. It pounded so fast and loud that she was afraid he can heat it. "Gifts?" She cringed and raised the bag.

Technologies of Ethereal

Athanasia woke up with the sun burning her face. She grumbled and pulled herself to sit. Why would she forget to close the curtains last night?

Now that the room is brighter she can appreciate her room more. They stayed at a tall building, approximately reaching the fifth floor. The architecture style is elven. There are a lot of intricate leaf carving on the wall and lines that are either gold or green. The arch window is so massive that it almost reaches the ceiling.

Elves like it massive and tall huh, Athanasia thought to herself.

Her room is rather special as it has a big balcony that shows the main street in Ethereal. Other than the balcony her room has a bathroom as big as their whole living room back in the mountains. Everything that she needs starting from the toiletries to snacks is given.

"What time is it?" She ask herself as she went down the bed.

She flattens her crumpled satin dress as she walks towards her things. She opened her bag and looked for her watch.

It is exactly seven-thirty in the morning.   They need to start sailing after lunch.

She goes to the luxurious bathroom and prepared herself to go out. They need to shop for some things before going to centro. Especially Hawdy, he needs to shop for new clothes because he doesn't have anything. He doesn't even have extra undergarments with him. He only has himself.

After refreshing herself in the bathroom and changing in a new set of clothes she went out to look for Hawdy and Dandelion's room. She doesn't know if they share the same room or not. Hopefully not.

She stopped for a moment in front of her door. In front of her is a massive, long hallway and at the end is another door. There are approximately three doors on each side and one door at both ends.

Where is the staircase? She thought, confused because she only see doors. Not a single stair is at sight.

She walk straight until she reached the door at the end. The door in front of her doesn't have a knob for it to open.

Once again, Athanasia stood in front of it, confused about how she will open the door.

She sighed and tapped the door lightly. Hoping that the door will open with her tap. Suddenly, the door opened, revealing a small room inside that has windows all over it revealing the beauty of the elven city.

Thankfully, inside is an elf who seems to be working there. The elf smiled at her and gestured for her to come inside. She walked inside the small room then suddenly it started to go down which made her flinch because she thought she was gonna fall.

"Where are you going, Princess?" The elf asked as she has her hand at the green stone attached to the wall.

Athanasia sighed and pushed her hair behind her ears. What is it about the elven technology? She doesn't even remember using this last night when she was escorted to her room. It always stresses her out, eleven technology.

"Do you perhaps know where my friends are? Their names are Dandelion and Hawdy." She asked.

"The advisor told me their room numbers in case you ask Princess. Do you wish to go there?" The female elf asked politely.

"Please do," Athanasia said and the elevator went down.

Athanasia hold her head because she started to feel dizzy when the elevator moved.

"Can you tell what is this strange device that we are in? It's horrible as it makes my head hurt." Athanasia complained.

The female elf looked surprised but she smiled right away.

"This device is popular in the human world. It is called an elevator. So our chief in modern technology decided to try and do it here. It uses elven magic stones to go up and down this tall building." The elf politely explained to Athanasia.

"Elevator." Athanasia nodded her head in understanding. "I'm sorry if I troubled you. You see, I live in a forest." Athanasia added as an excuse for her strange behavior against modern technology.

Athanasia thanked the elf when she went out of the elevator. This floor has a long corridor. It is refreshing because the fresh air coming from the outside is inside the building.

"Room fourteen and fifteen," Athanasia mumbled to herself as she walks down the hallway while looking at every door that she sees.

"Eleven, twelve, thirteen, and... fourteen!" She exclaimed when she found the room.

She knocked on the door at least five times before Hawdy opened it. Hawdy looks like he just woke up with his sleepy eyes and his topless outfit.

"Get dress because we're gonna shop," Athanasia said.

She didn't let him talk, she moved fast towards room fifteen to wake Dandelion up.

Hawdy stared at Athanasia who didn't even let him say something. He shook his head and closed the door to get ready.

After waiting outside Dandelion's room for ten minutes Dandelion finally came out of her room. She is big and she wore a brown dress and brown boots that she partnered up with green accessories. She looks like she's having a vacation.

Athanasia's brows raised then she looked at her outfit. She wore a simple brown flowy dress and white sandals that she found in her hotel room. She didn't bother to wear accessories and she just put a little tint on her lips.

"Let's go," Athanasia said and she walked towards the elevator.

They all went inside the elevator and admired the view outside.

"The elves adapt well to the modernization." Dandelion said as she observed the elevator move.

"Yeah, the shifters buy their technology here. Their technology is nature friendly unlike what the humans have." Hawdy said.

Athanasia stared at Hawdy who looks unfazed inside the elevator. Only she and Dandelion seem to be new to this.

"Is this your first time in an elevator?" Hawdy asked, amused because the two prodigies in medicine are not exposed to modern technologies.

"Yeah. What's funny about that?" Dandelion asked Hawdy. Offended by his tone. Is it her fault that she lives in a forest?

"Nothing. I thought the two of you go to Centro five times a year? How come you haven't gotten into an elevator?" Hawdy asked in confusion.

"I don't know why we never got to stumble upon them. Maybe we're just unlucky." Athanasia said.

"Maybe whenever you're on a building you just go straight to the stairs. Maybe that's why you never encountered an elevator." Hawdy tried to understand why they never have gotten into an elevator.

"Probably." Dandelion said.

Athanasia also nodded. She remembers that whenever she wants to go on another floor, she always goes to the stairs.

"Do you guys know teleportation device?" Hawdy asked, concerned if the two are aware of the teleportation device that can make traveling easier.

The two looked offended as they glared at Hawdy. Of course, they know about teleportation devices. They studied at the most prestigious university at Glovarno and that same university is the one who invented it.

Hawdy felt fear when he saw the two of them glared at him. He looked away and smiled at the elf who was looking at them warily. He forgot for a second to hold his tongue.
