Ambition

After John's takeover of the Leicester was completed, a press conference was announced to make the matter formal. The press conference was going to take place in the Walkers stadium Training Ground on April 4th at 4 p.m. John arrived at the Walkers stadium at approximately 2 p.m. that day.

The stadium was located at Freeman's Wharf which was quite close to Filbert street where the previous Leicester stadium was. The Stadium was built by Birse Construction and was the reason the club went into administration after not being able to repay the 30 million pound loan took to build it. Birse Construction lost a lot of money because of that and withdrew from the construction of the ground. The stadium's ownership then reverted to American company TIAA-CREF who contributed 28 million pounds to complete the stadium.

'This is fine but I will build a world class stadium one day for the club.' John thought as he looked at the stadium with a capacity of 32,262. The stadium had an enclosed design with two large 20-meter screens at either end of the pitch.

John arrived two hour earlier because he wanted to meet the staff and calm them down. Sean was also accompanying him. Everything was in turmoil at club and everyone was worried about their jobs. It was to the level that it was affecting the club's performance on the pitch. After finishing 16th in the previous season they were battling against relegation this season after the recent run of 6 straight defeats.

John went to the previous chairman's office. After entering the room the first thing he saw was the trophy cabinet of Leicester City. It was embarrasingly empty for a club as old as Leicester. The only trophies the club had ever won is the second division title six times and the League cup three times. They also had a Community shield which they won against Liverpool after being invited to play as second division champions.

"I will fill this cabinet with trophies one day and then we will need to build a trophy room one day." John said to Sean who was walking behind him who didn't show any reaction. John realized that Sean didn't consider it seriously or he may even come off as childish but John knew that with his knowledge of future it was possible.

He then realized that the Manager of the club Robert Kelly and the Director of the club Andrew Taylor were already present. He wasn't used to being in a position of authority and people waiting for him but he still walked confidently towards them.

"I do hope so, Mr. Baker. I am Andrew Taylor, the director of the club." Andrew said to John cordially. There was no particular reaction on the face of Rob Kelly.

"Hello, I am John Baker the new chairman of the club and this is Sean, my lawyer." John introduced himself and Sean as he sat on the chairman's seat. It was a comfortable chair and John just wanted to slump on the chair but seeing as he had an image to maintain now as the club's chairman, he decided otherwise.

"Hello Mr. Baker, I am the manager of the club, Rob Kelly." replied the manager sporting a track suit.

"OK, let's do away with the small talk because we have rather pressing concerns" John said seriously.

Seeing that everyone was seated and paying attention, John continued, "The team is in a precarious situation and with only seven games remaining, I am hoping for a run that would see us avoid relegation. Because even if I want to collect trophies I don't want a League 1 trophy in my collection."

John noticed a wince on the face of Manager Kelly who wanted to say something but John continued, " We are in 21st position, just above the relegation places, but I think we have enough quality to string together enough wins so as to avoid relegation."

Seeing that John was finally done, Manager Kelly replied, "Yes, we have enough quality in our squad but with recent turmoil at the club, players can't focus on the pitch. They don't even know if they will be here next season, it's really hard to motivate them to play to their best."

"That's a valid concern, and I can't promise that everyone will be here next season. But even if they do leave, it will be better for them to perform at a high level so as to get a better offer next season. And I have decided to give the squad a sum of 300,000 if they manage to avoid relegation. I think you can do it, Manager Kelly, after all it was you who saved Leicester from relegation last season." John told Rob, even though he knew it won't be a good idea to tell them that they may not play for The Foxes next season, John wasn't in the habit of making false promises.

'There will be changes in the summer and I think it will be a good motivator for Rob to secure his job.' John thought while fiddling with a pen lying on the table.

"Yes, I will try my hardest" said Rob before taking his leave alongside Andrew Taylor. John noticed a hint of pride along with worry while Robert was leaving.
