The Pancake Stingray

Leon immediately checked the stats of the ray through the scanner on his phone.

Abilities:

[Spirit Butter]: The Pancake Stingray can produce one block of spirit butter that will enhance other food creatures levels once. Even if the creature is on Mouth-Watering X, it will be upgraded straight to godly. (UPGRADABLE)

[Ride]: The food master can ride this food creature because it can fly and the butter on top of it will also be considered as a treat for the passenger.

"Wow this is insane," Leon exclaimed, the abilities were not only useful but the spirit butter was a food master dream skill. Even if a food was on the highest level, it could still be upgraded. Leon wondered what would happen if someone tried to upgrade a Godly X food.

What was even better was that this skill was an upgradable one which meant only one thing. The stingray could increase the amount of butter it produced or it could increase the ranking effect of the butter.

There was something that confused Leon, his stingray's rank was very peculiar as it was not in any of the ranks of pets. It was legendary.

As Leon flew happily out of the ancient gates of the summoning station on the pancake stingray with his new ability ride. This was a great awakening and even better was that he could see the shocked expressions on the guards' faces as he flew up into the clouds.

This was the beginning of a new life!

Looking down from atop a flying ray was a beautiful sight, there were the small towns and cities with flashing lights of different colours and the endless forests and plains stretching to the side of the planet. The river and the ocean sparkled with light, this was what birds could always see and Leon was jealous about it.

When he got back to his house, a small broken cottage on the far end of Maple City, it was already getting dark. He was surprised by how much time he spent inside the summoning station.

His sister was so shocked that he came back from the summoning station on a flying stingray that she dropped the bag that she had been carrying. Leon's sister was the only family he had left as his parents had died heroes while protecting the world from the dangerous foods that came from the intergalactic portals.

Skye had been waiting outside for almost 2 hours now, the food she was carrying was already cold. She had prepared this food in case of Leon's failure or the rare case of him succeeding. She had been saving the money to buy the ingredients needed to make this meal.

She had made Leon's favourite food, a seafood bento. The bento was a rice meal topped with fresh shrimp and salmon slices, an amazing dish.

Even though humans did not have to eat in this world, food was still considered a nice treat and was used for special occasions such as festivals or celebrations.

This bento had cost half a months earnings and she was definitely not going to tell Leon that because he would be pretty disappointed.

As Leon landed on the ground she raced up to him and asked, "You are finally back, I prepared some food for you that the friendly neighbours gave us, your favourite seafood bento. Also, why are you riding a flying stingray?"

After hearing that Skye had prepared a very tasty dinner for him, he smiled as for the stingray, he would only let Skye know that it was not a bad food creature. "My Pancake Stingray is not something to look down to, it may just be the life-changer we have been waiting for all this time! And the better thing is that we now have a good mode of transport to ride on!"

Hopping of the ray, he followed Skye back into the cottage to eat and to surf the internet. He wanted to know what Legendary food was and also do some research about the ray.

After eating the delicious dish that Skye had prepared, he thanked her until she got irritated then went to his corner of the cottage to do the research. Because this was a very cheap and ancient cottage, it only had 3 rooms, the toilet, the kitchen and the main living room where Skye and Leon slept.

Opening up his laptop, which took a long time as it was an old model that he had found near a trash bin, he typed up Legendary rank food creatures in the food web forum. But there was not a single chat or question about it, all there was bits of information about legendary (rare) creatures that may have been spotted such as the cucumber serpent and the ice-cream dragon.

Leon was a bit shocked, there was nothing on the legendary rank creatures, maybe this pancake ray was really something special. He imagined what would have happened if he had chosen the good-looking one instead of this orb.

He then searched up the pancake stingray, a few articles were explaining its lifestyle and how to catch one but there was nothing stating anything special about it. Maybe this was just something new.

He then thought about the stingray's special ability Spirit Butter, maybe he could start a food web store and sell food resources and also food creatures. Even though this idea was a bit far-fetched, it just had that slight possibility of working and Leon was a master at grasping opportunities... and failing...

After surfing the internet for a few minutes longer, a sleepy sensation came to him and he decided to call it a day and maybe take action the next day.

The first rays of sunlight shone through the windows of the cottage waking Leon up from a dream of becoming an S-grade food master. Today was the day he would go to the Maple City Forest to scavenge for any resources or even possibly find a useful food creature.

After having a quick breakfast of toast and jam, he waved goodbye to Skye who was going to school and set off on his flying stingray towards the forest on the outskirts of Maple City.

Leon also decided to bring a bag in case he actually found any food resources, they were very rare as this forest was not far from the city. But Leon did not dare to venture any further than this forest because the further away from the city he was, the higher-ranked foods he would find.

When he arrived in a clearing filled with a grassy floor, he looked around with curiosity. But all he could see was the bare trees that had been stripped of their resources years ago. After all, this was where all people landed when they started to adventure the forest.

After walking for a long while, all Leon could see were the bare trees and almost no food creatures. Occasionally, he would spot a popcorn rabbit or a banana lizard, nothing too exciting. By his strength right now, it would probably take more than a few days to even touch one of these animals, let alone touch one.

Suddenly, out of the corner of his eyes, he saw a tiny hill with a crevice inside of it, something was glowing inside of it. Leon cautiously walked over and peeked inside of the crevice, there was a weird mushroom that was glowing with neon green light.

He quickly brought out his old phone and scanned it but all it came up with was a few stats on its type and rank but there was nothing about its species.

Leon was extremely curious about what this mushroom was but he decided that because its rank is so high, it might have a painful defence. It was also a poison type so he could be poisoned if he touched it. Taking one last glance at the peculiar mushroom, he decided to leave it be and maybe come back another time when he got stronger.

After another two hours of hard walking and searching, Leon decided it was time to head back towards the clearing as it was almost lunchtime. He had collected a few resources, the mint leaf which could help restore the energy of tired food creatures, he had a few of these since they were pretty common to find.

He had also collected a honey bee stinger that could increase a food creatures attack power, these were considered pretty rare which was why Leon had only found one. Lastly, Leon had found a weird egg under a mushroom, it was pale white with a smooth surface. It was relatively small so Leon could fit it in his pockets.

"If I can get this egg to hatch, it may contain something special that I can evolve with my Pancake Stingray's skill. Hopefully, it is an attack class because I really want to do some hunting here!" Leon was very excited and really wanted for this egg to hold a treasure inside of it.

Leon found that his Pancake Stingray had produced its first block of spirit butter during the hike, he was very excited. The spirit butter looked like a yellow block of cheese, but it had a blue glowing aura around it. Leon decided that he would create a Food shop online and sell this spirit butter in the shop for cash and also the resources he had harvested today.

"Hey wait up young man, is that block of somethin' you holdin' a spirit butter." A middle-aged man suddenly came running out from the forest with a glow in his eyes looking at Leon menacingly.

"Yes it is, what do you want?"

"Kind brother, can you please sell that spirit butter to me, my butter-fly has been stuck on edible IV for so long, if you can just sell me it, it would be a life changer!"

Leon looked at the man that had almost scared the soul out of him like he was some kind of idiot. Ranking up a food creature from edible IV to V was extremely easy, you would just need to use one of its skills once and it would be mission accomplished. Was this man insane?

"Please, I will be willing to pay 100 thousand dollars, just please help me get my food creature to edible V."

A sneaky smile suddenly formed on Leon's face, "I can rank up your food creature without using the spirit butter but are you still willing to pay the 100 thousand dollars?"

The man quickly nodded. He immediately transferred 100 thousand dollars to Leon through the food web transaction feature.

It was weird how he even had 100 thousand dollars with him. But he was willing to offer such an amount of money to Leon so he could not refuse this amazing deal.

Leon hopped onto his Pancake Stingray and started to fly away, leaving a few words to the man who was gaping at him in awe.

"Just tell it to use one of its abilities, then it will rank up you idiot!"
