Mr. Watson stepped out of his house, closing the door gently behind him. The chilly air embraced him, sending shivers down his spine. He stood there for a moment, rubbing his palms together in an attempt to warm them up.
As his eyes stayed still he kept his eyes remaining where in front of him he saw a tall, dark figure standing a few feet away. The man's eyes were piercing, and his facial features were hard to decipher.
Mr. Watson's heart raced as he tried to make sense of the situation. He could feel his palms getting clammy, and he took a step back, maintaining a safe distance.
As Mr. Watson stepped back closer into his own house a feeling came over him that he knew what Dynasty wanted. Dynasty stepped inside the house, inside the hallway connecting the stairs and the living room. As he entered the systemo the house suddenly started to get cold and everything was starting to slowly shut down.
"So Dynasty, I'm sure you're here to ask about the book," Mr. Watson said, his voice hoarse with fear.
Dynasty's smile widened, his crooked teeth sending shivers down Mr. Watson's spine.
"Indeed. Where is the book being held, Watson? I know you've been hiding it," Dynasty said, his voice smooth and calculated.
Mr. Watson's heart sank. How did Dynasty know about the book? He had taken every precaution to keep it a secret. He tried to keep his voice steady as he replied.
"I'm afraid I can't tell you," he said, his tone even.
"Well what about these children, you must explain the situation to them too, you don't want anything to happen to them," Dynasty said calmly, his cheeks puffing as he tried to resist the laughter, his voice low.
Dynasty's aura still festered on the fears of the people around him, from the children, but while Mr. Watson gave a strong exterior inside Dynasty knew, he was a weak man, and would not do anything to fight back.
Dynasty's smile grew wider, and he took a step closer, his eyes never leaving Mr. Watson's.
"Ah, I understand you still want to say no but I can't take no for an answer," he said, his voice still low.
Mr. Watson's body tensed as Dynasty moved closer. He could feel the heat emanating from the man's body, and his breaths were getting shallower by the second.
"You'll have to take me at my word," he said, his voice laced with authority.
"On your word is such a boring thing to say, we can settle this any other way cant we," Dynasty said, his eyes still piercing through Mr. Watsons.
"Dynasty, we had made a deal, and you would know what would happen if you harm me or any of these kids," Mr. Watson said, the fear in his voice slowly falling away.
Dynasty's smile faded, and he stepped back, his body language showing a newfound respect. Dynasty stepped back out of the house and suddenly started to float in the air
"Very well, I'll leave it at that," he said, his voice carrying a hint of a threat.
Mr. Watson watched as the tall figure disappeared flying up into the sky, leaving behind a huge gust of wind that knocked Mr. Watson over his feet.
Marcel's mind was whirling at the implications of such a dangerous encounter. He took a deep breath, trying to calm his nerves.
As he turned around, he saw Marcel standing at the window, watching the scene unfold. Marcel's face was pale, and his eyes were wide with fear.
"What was that all about, Mr. Watson?" Marcel asked, his voice shaking.
Mr. Watson let out a deep sigh, trying to collect his thoughts.
"I'm not sure, Marcel. But we need to be careful. That man, Dynasty, he's not someone to be taken lightly," Mr. Watson said, his voice low.
Marcel nodded, his face still pale.
"What book were you both talking about, Mr. Watson?" Marcel asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
Mr. Watson thought for a moment before replying,
"Marcel…it is hard to explain, but for now maybe the time is right to make you learn. Dynasty is a dangerous man, I am going out, going to grab some protection, for now, I will give you the keys to the basement, hold the kids there" he said, his voice firm, but quivers outright showed on his lips.
Marcel nodded again, his eyes fixed on Mr. Watson.
Mr. Watson gave Marcel a small smile, grateful for the boy's loyalty.
"Do we have to go away Mr. Watson, from the house," Marcel said, gulping down on the spit.
"Marcel, We'll figure something out," he said, his voice soothing.
The two of them stood there for a few moments, lost in thought. Mr. Watson quickly opened the door tossing the key to marcel. Entrusting him do whatever he needed him to do.
Mr. Watson's basement was something that was never known, he had never seen anything inside the basement, only a few items coming in and out. As Marcel walked to the basement door, he nudged the eldest girl out of the four children to follow.
The girl nodded as she cracked her knuckles.
"Everyone, we need to follow Marcel down to the basement," The eldest girl said, her lips quivering through every word she spoke.
"Will the scary man come again," The little boy said, his legs shivering as he took step by step closer to the basement door?
"No, just follow whatever I do," Marcel said, putting the rusty key inside the basement door, twisting and turning it until a click sound was heard.
All of the kids had already followed Marcel towards the basement, the door towered over all their heights, 7 feet tall, and the lock only opened by one key and no other. Mr. Watson had said this place was off limits, he was fearful of the basement and every time he was about to enter, he was fearful.
As Marcel grabbed his palm on the cold knob the door suddenly busted open, and the kids and Marcel were met with an abundance of light and cracked walls and ceilings.
Marcel took one step into the basement and suddenly a power was held over Marcel, Marcel snapped out of the trance he was turned into and looked down the rusty, handmade stairs.
The cold wind hit Marcel's body straight as he shivered, the kids following him. Tough what was the scariest of all, was the amount of darkness at the end of the stairs.
