Chapter Sixty-One: A Peaceful Drink

The season of decay edged on the horizon. A colorful world birthed from the ashes of life. Grass turned brown and brittle, trees lost their leaves. But it wasn't just the season changing, but the people too.

The inhabitants of Orkrasist worked endlessly on their many projects with no end in sight. Not just them, but their god too. Jantyr, together with the willing participants of war expanded their horizon exponentially. His newly formed statues spread throughout every village, every town, even city they passed.

Slowly but surely Jantyr abused his power to help his people. New information streamed into Jasmine's grasp every day. Magic, knowledge and all other things she might need information vise.

With every month Jantyr unintentionally talked less with his worshipers, keeping only to his trusted three. Howard, Lenart and Jasmine. His silence was not unexpected, only a natural thing. How could a mortal converse with a god, no, that thought was just outrageous, hearsay!

Orkrasist had accomplished what they set out to do. They rebuilt the wall even stronger than before. Now, instead of being a palissade, it was a stone wall.

They also started securing a route between villages and other towns close to the border of the ocean. After all, Orkrasist was located on a slope, where a river passed through, connecting to the ocean many miles away.

The river went through an ancient forest, so big it spanned several countries, over half of the continent of life's coast was covered by the very same forest. The forest was a defense line between the land and sea, protecting land dwellers and ocean dwellers alike.

Catara, the goddess of peace and prosperity grew ever restless. Each day a battle neared. Falkens lined both borders., awaiting the inevitable.

Everyday Catara would visit Jantyr, complaining about the emperor's acts. He of course agreed, after all, it was not just her people that suffered, but his as well.

The demand on weapons increased every day, something the local blacksmith of Orkrasist enjoyed. There was no shortage of weapons for the town, and business blooming in other directions was the best outcome for the blacksmith.

Every time traders passed, which was monthly now, profit was made. Orkrasist gained resources they couldn't get their hands on, like metal, while selling their expertise. Which were usually monster parts.

Monsters aren't very natural to stumble onto deep into the country. Sure small forests dwelled here and there, but nothing like the great forest.

Due to this, mages came to love the town and so did adventurers. The threat of orcs was gone, for the moment. So many new adventurers came. Especially now when the former village had become a town.

Jasmine regarded the drink before her eyes. Black, with a hint of brown, steaming with warmth.

Some days ago, as she was walking along one of the many roads, she saw a merchant selling weird items from a different country. Brown small beans. That instant she felt her deity's presence intensify and she was ordered to buy it. Being a humble servant of her god, she instantly bought the beans, no haggling, or questions asked.

Now, days later, with her deity telling her the preparation method, a mug of the liquid stood before her. Every second she felt Jantyr hurry her along, telling her to offer the beverage to him.

So, after taking a deep breath she stepped forward, grabbed the drink and turned to a statue of her deity. She got down on her knees and placed the cup on the floor in front of her and offered the liquid.

"What are you doing?" Catara asked as she entered the perimeter of the peak.

Jantyr was leisurely sipping on a cup of coffee, through a mouth he materialized on his face. When Catara entered he sighed internally, 'why did she have to interrupt the reunion'. He thought, giving her a side eye, with his eyeless face.

"Can't you see? I'm reaching enlightenment!" he said as a matter of fact. In response she appeared before him, snatching the cup of coffee from his hands and took a sip.

"Blah, bitter!" she said, spitting out the coffee on the ground. Jantyr grabbed the cup by force and defended it behind his back. He gave her a look of hostility and said, "How dare you!".

"This is the holy grail of life! It's against my religion to disregard coffee, such is your act, a crime!" Jantyr dramatically screeched, making space between the two of them, by backing away.

Out of thin air a napkin appeared and Jantyr cleaned the spots Catara had touched, then took a sip again. Sadly his reunion would have to wait, as he needed to banish the heretic.

So the cup of coffee and napkin returned to space, along with Jantyr's happiness.

"Yeah, yeah, sure. Anyways, why can't you be more peaceful? Why make money through killing monsters? Befriend them and trade with them." she preached.

"Perhaps I would've considered it, if you weren't a heathen!" Jantyr answered. This wasn't the first time Catara nagged about this very thing. But now Jantyr had a reliable excuse to blow her off. 'How could a good person spit out coffee on the ground, illogical.' he thought, his own logic being the very same thing as her actions.

"Yeah, sure thing, stop being mean. So, wanna read books again?" she asked. Jantyr gave her the side eye once more and said. "Sure, just don't steal my stuff again, especially if you're going to spit it out." Jantyr replied and resummoned his coffee.

Back to Jasmine, all hell was breaking loose. "Get me more of those brown beans!" she ordered. How could she disappoint her deity! From now on that liquid would be ready to be served to Jantyr any time, any place. It was her great purpose after all.
