Lucas said as he noticed an old scar on Shade's chest and a slave mark near his neck. Lucas clearly remembered that slave mark and the piercing wound from a Rapier.

"I... I wasn't strong enough to stand by your side," Shade said in a painful voice while grabbing his chest, "I trained... made myself strong and, I became your shadow informant."

Shade hid his identity and helped Lucas from behind the scenes by providing information about the demons. He was the one who created the roster for Lucas's party and gave it to him. During the final battle, Shade stayed behind to protect Lady Emilia.
