The Policeman

Everyone else might have missed the tattoo on the man they had just arrested but he didn't. It was faint but he could still recognize the symbol. For the tattoo to become as faint as it was meant this man had been a member of their rival cult and these siblings were in great danger.

He already knew their rival cult had in possession a greater weapon than they did and this weapon had been responsible for the murders happening all around the town. Coming out to say such in his department would make him look demented and he wasn't up for any embarrassment. But one thing still puzzled him, even though the victims had testified to the man being their uncle there wasn't any motive that could trigger such attack.

They didn't just go around Killing people randomly. If his sources were right, then the only people that would be their target now would be members of his own cult. The Advocates. They were sworn enemies to the renowned cult Satan's Guild. And recently, they had learnt that their enemies have managed to summon a creature from hell which he guessed will absolutely be responsible for the murders. They were using the town as a feeding ground for their pet and the town people were completely in oblivion.

He had also learnt that keeping this creature in the human realm required a lot of energy and they had decided to fuel their diminishing energy tank by going after members of the Advocate.

Four out of the nine murders so far were members of the cult and that was the main reason he had transferred to Hayside. He was undercover for his society finding and sending back relevant information to the authorities. Now that one of an old member of the Guild was in their custody, it was the perfect opportunity to confirm all the information he had been receiving but first of all, he needed to have a word with these siblings.

He arrived by their doorstep in his police uniform. It was already obvious that they wouldn't let anyone else in after what had just happened yesterday and this was his chance to really find out what was going on. From the information they had provided, the girl had received her note two days earlier and her attack had happened on the third day. It was also very likely, that the boy might also be attacked tomorrow and if he was, he will be there to catch whoever that will attack.

He adjusted his shirt and raised his head high to intimidate whoever that might open the door before knocking.

*******

He laid on the couch, a baseball bat by his side. He had stayed up all night keeping watch and making sure nobody broke into their home and once the sun was up, he decided to get his own sleep. Ashley had already told him to stop overreacting but he wouldn't listen to her. A murderer was out there and they've just been attacked and she wanted him to calm down. Until hell froze over.

He had just closed his eyes and was almost drifting off to sleep when a knock on the door startled him off the couch onto the carpet. He rose immediately gripping his bat and slowly tiptoed to the eyehole.

"Who's there?" He questioned after peeping out of the hole and not recognizing the face that stood behind the door.

"Hayside Police Department. Here to ask you some questions" The man replied flashing his badge on the peephole so that Justin can see.

Reluctantly he yielded and opened the door and hopefully a knife wouldn't slit his throat.

"Good day citizen" The officer greeted slowly walking in and while keeping his eyes on the baseball bat the man had in hand.

"Good morning officer" Justin replied lowering the weapon just before Ashley came running downstairs.

"How may we help you officer?" Ashley asked on Justin's behalf.

"I'm just here to ask a few questions ma'am. I mean no harm" The officer replied

'ma'am? the guts!' Ashley ranted inside.

"I am officer Wilson and I'll like to ask you more about your parents" Wilson introduced. His curiosity had overwhelmed him and he done his research on the family and had discovered their were orphans and their parents had died five years ago to a car accident.

For some reason, the pictures of the deceased couple seemed really familiar but he couldn't just pinpoint where he had seen them.

"Our parents are dead" Justin replied flatly not wanting to disclose anything about his family to a stranger even if it was a police officer.

Wilson took a deep breath before relaxing himself. It was a risk revealing himself to these people but it was the only option. If he didn't say anything, he would be leaving them to die without trying to save them and seeing as they were reacting to his question it wasn't likely they would say anything to him.

"Look, you two are in grave danger" He began capturing their attention immediately with just those words.

"How do you mean?" Justin asked clearly tensed.

"Your uncle is a member of a secret society called Satan's Guild and it's most likely he was here to get a sacrifice for his society"

"How do you know this?" Ashley asked, clearly interested.

"I'm also part of a secret society.... But a different one" Wilson made clear. "Our societies are rivals and sometimes, this rivalry may lead to bloodshed" he explained. "I don't know why he would be after you guys but I think your parents might be involved" He added.

"Our parents? How?" Justin asked his tension casually growing. His thoughts were racing on the possibilities of his uncle being his parents murderer. He had never really accepted their death as an accident and he knew it wasn't. It was clearly a covered up murder.

"I think they were part of my society and chances are they might have initiated you two for protection before they passed away" Wilson explained "if my sources are right, then they might be coming after you two since they haven't gotten what they wanted."

"This is bullshit!" Justin retorted not believing any more words from the officer. Their parents were never in a cult and even if they did, they would never involve their kids in such a thing at least not without their consent.

"You have to believe me" Wilson begged. "These guys are really dangerous. You've seen the news haven't you. They've been killing all these people and they aren't planning on stopping not anytime soon"

Justin paused for a while. His words were begining to make sense again. The deaths were just too disturbing and it was something more than a wild animal attack. No wiid animal kills it's prey and only takes it's eyes and organs something was definitely off.

"How do we know you're not lying" Ashley demanded for an evidence to his claims.

These two siblings were definitely something. Even when their life was on the line, they still bothered themself with proof instead of seeking for refuge. He couldn't deny their demands, it was the only way to prove that be wasn't lying.

He pulled up his uniform just above his waist line and revealed to them a tattoo. A cross like symbol with fantasized creatures lurking around it.

Justin's head raced. It was almost like the one on the note he had gotten and he could swear that he had seen that mark somewhere else. His father. His father had that exact symbol on his left shoulder but he decided not to say a word, not until he was sure.

"Have you seen this mark anywhere else?" Wilson asked looking at the two who nodded their head sideways in disapproval.

"If I'm correct, then they will be coming for you by tomorrow" Wilson said his gaze fixated on Justin who just shrugged his shoulders and said.

"We'll be prepared."

"Prepared?" Wilson questioned "You don't know these people they're more dangerous than you think!" He tried to establish the fact even more. If he was to say, their uncle was doing his best to be merciful. It was weird risking their identity like that. Attacking during day time was not the strategy of the Satan's Guild he remembered. He was sure their uncle probably did this to just get caught and imprisoned instead of Killing his own family. And if he failed or rejected, then he'd pay with his own life. Even jail was not guaranteed safety. These type of people normally had inside men on every establishment but he had made sure the man remained in solitary confinement.

"Their weapons aren't of mortal realm. They're necromancers" He summarized.

"So what do you suggest we do?" Justin asked almost raising his voice.

"I'll be here tomorrow to stay with you guys until we're sure you're safe" Wilson suggested but Justin had refused almost immediately.

"You're also part of their rival cult. You staying with us even means more trouble" He stated and it wasn't false.

"Look I'm just trying to help" Wilson said calmly.

"Justin" Ashley hushed his brother before he said another word.

"We'll be waiting" Ashley finalized not letting Justin interfer. She would rather let this stranger stay with them than lose her brother and that was final.
