Back to Society

Aurum, who was still chasing some damned souls, didn't bother to count how many he had already killed, but the number of was over five million but he still didn't stop because it would be such a waste to ignore this opportunity. He even ignored the system that kept on popping some notifications about how much Exp and CP he got. However, while he was leveling up by killing damned souls, he was also felt like he was tortured. Never could he have imagined that just by doing this, the toll on him is going to be so intense. He would always just grit his teeth and continue on doing what he needs to do.

[DING! Host gained the skill Pain Tolerance.]

Due to the immense suffering he was going through, he didn't hear the System's announcement about it. Although he gained this skill, the pain was still ingrained in his head and made its effectiveness useless.

"Ah, dammit! I just need to finish this and I'll be free," he kept on telling himself that to raise his morale.

Suddenly, he felt like the System was doing something inside him. He was already bothered by the pain he is currently going through at the moment and now the System keeps on beeping inside his head.

"What is it, System?! If this is not worth my time I swear that I would mute you if I found a way!'

[DING! Currently the Host has currently five hundred million CP. Host can now afford the Fruit of Knowledge at this instant to avoid wasting time.]

"Huh? What the hell?! You told me just now, even when I was here for four days already? Why didn't you tell me right away?" he asked furiously.

[DING! You have damaged your mental health multiple times and is always healed by your Auto-regeneration. Due to that, you probably didn't hear that I was calling you a billion times.]

"Hais, whatever. Just go buy the damn fruit..." he helplessly sighed.

[DING! Host has obtained the Fruit of Knowledge!]

As soon as he got the Fruit of Knowledge, he immediately went back to his body and ate it right away without hesitation. However, instead of feeling enlightened, he felt like he visited hell just now.

"System, what the f*ck is going on to me again?" he asked while trying to stand up.

[DING! The Fruit of Knowledge is a forbidden fruit by the Almighty One. He put a curse on the fruit to prevent anyone from obtaining the knowledge of everything about the sealed gods and the current gods.]

"Cursed? I am cursed?" he was stunned.

Immediately after that, he asked the System to show his stats.

"System, my status said that I am 'Enlightened', but why do I feel like I am not?" he asked curiously.

[DING! Host will be able to access the information you like when you let your mind be clear of any disturbances and focus on the information you would like to know.]

When the System said this, Aurum was a little bit skeptical. After all, he didn't really feel anything related to him being enlightened. However, he still did what the System told him. He cleared his mind and focused on the information about Azazel. When he did that, he finally found something useful. However, what he found wasn't exactly what he wanted. Instead, he saw an ancient mausoleum filled with forty three different statues and for some reasons when he tried to uncover the names of those statues, his mind would blank out instantly.

"Hmm... Maybe it's because my level is still low that's why I keep on blanking out..." he thought.

==============================================

At the Almighty One's domain, the Almighty One was pretty furious when Barakiel, one of his archangels, telling him that the last of the remaining Fruit of Knowledge was nowhere to be found.

"FIND THAT FRUIT IMMEDIATELY! AND WHEN YOU FIND THE THIEF I WANT YOU TO BRING HIM TO ME AND I'LL LET HIM EXPERINCE AN ETERNAL DAMNATION!" the Almighty One bellowed.

For the Almighty One, he won't bother if the fruit was stolen from him while he was still in the alliance. However, now that he left the alliance and even made enemies out of them, he couldn't help but feel anxious. He can now be killed if they can find the Longinus and the only way to know how to obtain it was to first consume the Fruit of Knowledge.

He felt a bit restless when the thought of Zeus or Odin getting the Longinus in order to kill him and make him suffer throughout the rest of his life came to his mind.

Immediately, Barakiel went out of the throne room of the Almighty One while slightly trembling. He hadn't seen him make that kind of expression in years. When he looked at the Almighty One earlier, it reminded him of how Lucifer declared that he will come back and kill the Almighty One.

When Barakiel went out of the throne room, the Almighty One immediately waved his hand. When he did this, a video was currently being played right in front of him. Naturally, he was looking at Aurum who is currently at the Index Librorum Prohibitorum.

He was pretty surprised when he saw Aurum currently dazed while standing at the middle of the library. However, his surprise soon disappeared and was replaced by confusion.

"Why aren't those damned souls attacking him... Usually when someone dares to daydream inside, they would rush in right away and take advantage of the situation. But now, not only do they not try to attack him, it even seems like that they are taking the chance to run away. What the hell is going on with them?"

However, there was a soul that tried to zip past him but immediately vanished without a trace. Only then the Almighty One finally realized why all of the damned souls are backing off. Even damned souls could feel fear, if you would instantly die without leaving a trace.

The Almighty One sighed in relief for the fact that he didn't try to send some angelic souls to hunt him down. However, little did the Almighty One know that Aurum already consumed his remaining Fruit of Knowledge.

=======================================================

Aurum, who still was dazed, snapped back into reality when he sensed that someone was looking at him. He turned at the direction where he felt someone's gaze. He immediately asked the System if this was one of the side effects of consuming the fruit or not.

[DING! Because history has Danger sense level X, the Host can sense it immediately even if you are sleeping.]

"Hmmm... this is pretty useful. Nobody would carelessly launch an ambush or assassinate me when I'm alone or while I'm sleeping" he thought.

"System, can you identify who is it that is peeking at me?"

[DING! Because the Host has peered through a little bit of the origin of Azazel's eyes, you can now use Appraisal to identify someone or something from the Void.]

When he heard this, he immediately used his Appraisal towards the direction where he could feel someone's gaze. However, it was as if the other person could immediately know what he was thinking, it immediately left to avoid being identified.

Aurum felt a little bit bitter as he wasn't able to identify his stalker. However, he immediately composed himself and walked towards the exit. Although he was reluctant to leave the place with so many Exp and CP waiting for him, he needed to go meet up with Dmitri to discuss things on which gods they are going to unseal.

"I need to finish up this quest right away to be safe. I will come back to this place if I have the time..." he thought while leaving quietly.

When he arrived at the door, he immediately pushed it open and saw Dmitri sitting down with his eyes closed. As soon as Dmitri heard the door creaked, he instantly sent back up to his feet and greeted Aurum politely.

"Welcome back, young master..." he said while beaming.

"En," he casually nodded back.

It's been half a week since they first got here at the Index Librorum Prohibitorum and they have no idea at all what is happening at the world. He obviously didn't know that the people out there was already alert at the name called Aurum Est.

Dmitri and Aurum weren't particularly in a rush when voting to a city. So they chose to walk leisurely without being worried at all. On the way, they met many despicable thieves, murderers, and all sorts of criminals. Aurum and Dmitri didn't spare any glance towards them and immediately knocked them out without killing them to avoid attracting the attention of the gods. They speculated that if the gods knew they were out of the library, they would immediately hunt them down personally.

Fortunately for them, none of the gods at the alliance knew that he was already out. However, the Almighty One immediately noticed that he was out after he stepped out of the library.

While they were walking, Dmitri could notice that sometimes Aurum just doesn't seem to be mentally present. He could see Aurum smirking or grinning sometimes. Naturally, Dmitri didn't know that Aurum was currently looking for the locations where the ancient gods are currently sealed. He would sometimes try to dive deeper at the mausoleum but is always forced to break off his focus.

Two and a half hours passed by, they finally arrived at a country side. Dmitri and Aurum would shift their gaze occasionally and try to observe the people's lifestyles and behavior. However, what they saw completely stupefied both of them.

People won't work at the farm anymore. Most men in the village held a hand gun in their hands and would go on a patrol. It was like they were trying to defend this village from an upcoming invasion of a country.

Both of them couldn't hold their curiosity any longer and approached a man. They approached him while smiling and with opened hands as if to show that they are unarmed. However, the man still didn't lower his guard.

"Hey bro, how you doing? Me and my friend has been travelling for a week already and we just found this village right here. We weren't able to bring anything with us because we were robbed on our way here. So we are just wondering what has happened at the last week that made everyone so catious," Dmitri casually talked to him.

Seeing that they really didn't have anything with them, the man's vigilance died down almost instantly.

"My friends, you are still asking what are the current news this week? It's practically the same, you know. All of the news in all channels are all about finding and killing a guy named Aurum Est. If you don't know this news too, I would really think that both of you lived under a rock 'till this moment," the man said.

When they heard what the man said, they both looked at each other, stupefied. They couldn't just believe that the gods would use humanity to deal with him.

Out of the frying pan?...

Maybe out of the library, I guess. So, does any of you guys know the reference introduced in this chapter?

If so, then please go comment or contact the author, and if you have any problems with some scenes where a particular opportunity arises but the plot makes it underrated, feel free to tell the author (yes, I've read the comments and it is quite vexing). I suppose I'll have to talk to the author about this one.

Also for those who don't understand any of the references mentioned in previous chapters, please don't ask stupid questions, we know you don't get it, but please don't humiliate yourselves.

That's it, for now. Thank you for everyone reading this chapter and this web novel by MythRoid. Feel free to voice out your opinions and suggestions to the author by any means possible. If you want to support the author, then more POWER STONES would be a big help.

And one more thing, the chapters are published before I 'clean' them, if you feel curious about the changes before and after, feel free to re-read them.
