Chapter 9
Demitria Frostine
I woke up when I heard the alarm from the academy. The siren will wake up all the students because it was too loud and painful to our ears if we don't wake up.
I felt really tired and sleepy. It was almost 3 in the morning when my training ended and it didn’t took me so much tie to fall asleep.
I took a bath and wore the slitted dress partnered with black shorts and black boots. I can only see these uniforms before while selling vegetables in the town and now, I am wearing it.
I glanced at the door when someone knocked. I know it was Camellia already because she told me that we will go to our classes together. Luckily, she will be my classmate temporarily. I took my bag and went out of my room.
“You didn’t get enough sleep, didn’t you?”She said as we walked in this long-ass alley, full of judgemental people. I nodded my head as an answer.
We continued walking towards the Male dorm to wait for Craig, Camellia’s twin brother. We remained silent afterward but she suddenly asked me a question.
“Having a hard time adjusting to your new environment?”
“No, It’s not like that. I was just thinking about the battle.” I answered.
“Oh common Demi. I know you could do better than most of us.” She said, laughing and slightly hitting me.
“Of course not,” I said.
But I wish I am.
We walked together until we reach the intersection of boys and girls dorm and waited for Craig.
While waiting for Craig, I saw Lorcan comes out of his room while holding a book. I remembered what happened last night but Lorcan told me not to tell anyone that he was training me last night so I kept quiet about it.
He walks past us like he didn't saw me. I know he was like this so I didn't expect him to say hi. Lorcan doesn't greet people, They greet him.
"Demi!"
"Sh!t what?!"
I jumped out of my position when Camilla shouted in my ear. She was looking at me furiously and her hands were at her waist.
"I was telling you something but you weren't listening and you were just staring blankly."
"Oh, I'm sorry. I wasn't able to sleep well last night." I reasoned out just to stop her from asking more questions.
“Hey girls!” Craig greeted us.
“Hi!” I greeted him back.
“You’re late!” Camellia shouted and run towards his brother. She grabbed his ears and pinched them towards a room. Craig was just laughing like he was used to his sister grabbing his ears and pinching them.
They both stopped at the front of a huge double door. They opened it together and revealed a beautiful classical-designed interior room. There were tables and each table has a chair as its partner. It was positioned with spaces with each table and chair.
Everyone looked at us and the noisy room a while ago becomes silent for a moment.
Camilla pulled me on one of the seats at the back and sat beside me. She greeted everyone we passed and smiled at them all.
She was too friendly and nice no wonder she befriended me.
I silently sat there while Camellia kept on talking about certain things that I cannot even understand. My head was floating and can’t even function well.
When she decided to shut her mouth I waited for more of our classmates and the appearance of the professor.
"Good morning class."
Everyone stood up including me when a woman entered the room placing her things on the table in front.
"Oh, I almost forgot... Ms. Demitria, will you please introduce yourself to us? " The instructor said that made everyone looked at me.
I was hesitating at first but I do not want to disrespect someone at this time so I slowly walk to the front and faced my classmates.
"Greetings to everyone, I am Demitria…"
Everyone stayed quiet as if they were waiting for me to tell more.
“That’s all,” I said and turned my back away to my classmates and faced my instructor.
"Can you tell us more, Demi?" I sighed when I realized that I was in the same room as Imelda. She even said my name like she was really doing this for a reason.
" I can't."
I looked at the professor who was looking confused and repeatedly checking the files on her tables. It was as if she was looking for something.
"Demitria, don't mind me asking, What's your last name? It wasn't written on the files they have given me."
I sighed. So that is what she was looking at the papers. My family name.
"I don't have a family name. I am an orphan and I have never met nor had parents."
Everyone laughed when I said that I was an orphan. My heart starts beating fast and my breathing becomes heavy. I pushed myself to let it passed and just calm down.
"Ooh, so that explains everything," Imelda said with her teasing voice. The four-cornered room was filled with laugh and even the professor cannot control them.
“Imelda, manners please.”
Everyone suddenly gasps and the room became quiet. The wind was blowing the curtains and all I could hear now was the sound of the leaves from the trees that dance with the wind. The ambiance becomes awkward, No one dared to talk.
I was looking down all the time so when I looked at them, I saw them staring at the door, looking shocked.
They only stopped when someone stops in front of the door. It was Lorcan and six other people behind him. His appearance shuts the noises out. It was more than enough to stop them from laughing.
Who are these people?
“Good morning, Miss. We are sorry for being late.”
A student with blonde hair, fair skin, and red dress as the color of her uniform entered the room. I immediately went back to my chair and sat down since the center of attraction shifted.
“Tallulah, what are you guys doing here?” The instructor asked them
“ We were transferred in this class by the headmaster and starting from today this will be our regular class including the new student.” She explained.
The room started to become noisy as they were murmuring. All of them might be shock by these students transferring in their class.
“Why are they acting so shock, who are these students?” I asked Camellia, leaning onto her ear. She looked at me and smiled.
“They were the last year battle of the elements finalist and the members of the ‘The Ardens’, the best students inside the academy.”
“So?”
“Demi, you’re too slow.” She told me.
“Those students were from the richest and most influenced family within the 8 kingdoms.”
The class started and my mind was still flying somewhere else. Aside from being sleepy throughout the class, I was also worried about what was about to come.
Meeting the best students and being classmates with them gives a lot of pressure on me.
“Can you tell me more about them?” I asked Camellia. It was lunchtime and we have two hours break before the next class starts.
Camellia nods her head and acts as if she was preparing herself for a long speech.
“Last year’s Top performing student was Lorcan. Lorcan was the son of the headmaster and the vice president of the council. Lorcan commands two elements which is the Energy and Thunder.”
“The second highest performing student was the blonde girl. Her eyes may be red but she can control the water. The daughter of the king and queen of the Kingdom of Agua. She was the only princess in the family and has three older brothers. Tallulah Meredith Fen” Craig added.
“Eeew, stop fantasizing about her!” Camellia said which made me laugh. Craig made it obvious that he likes Tallulah so much. His smiles tell it all.
“Liro was the third-highest performing student. He commands the Earth and you would not want to mess with him. He was almost like Lorcan. Serious and cold and mostly quiet.”
“Do you see the girl with the golden hair, She’s Seraphina,” Camellia said while rolling her eyes.
“Seraphina might look like an angel but she acts differently. She is the total opposite.: She added and continued eating her lunch. I shifted my gaze to the golden-haired girl and saw her looking back at me with a deadly smirk on her lips.
