TETHER

United Human Calendar Year 4701. Almost 5000 years after humans discovered they were not alone in the universe and began their long war with the other two intergalactic civilisations of Draconians and Dwarves. Suddenly, a sound seemingly as though reality itself was being torn apart was heard by every single intelligent life-form in the universe before a voice followed. The voice told them that it would create a virtual platform called Tether, where all the rates would conduct their conflicts with each other. From now on, any large-scale massacres or wars between the civilisations, which could regress the technological, cultural and intellectual progress of the civilisations would be considered treason, and they would be erased. to prove its point, the voice declared a leader from each of the three civilisations; who had conducted such massacres, as dead, and they died instantly, along with all their wealth and belongings. 20 years later, the entire universe is playing the game, not only due to being forced to do so by their governments but also the various rewards, both monetary and otherwise found inside. Jack, a normal human who lost a large part of his family, enters the game after a few years in the military, and a few months of being a free mercenary. However, he comes across a 'stone', which is both a blessing and a curse, giving him incredible powers in the game, but also making him the target of all the powerful and influential humans and other species. Ultimately, all the powerful humans band together, and first rip away his guild from the inside, before laying siege to his home base and finally seizing the item by killing him. ... However, the 'stone' seems to have powers beyond the game and brings Jack back to his past before he lost his family. What will Jack do? And how will he get revenge on those who caused him harm?

Unfortunately for Jack, his next, and last battle happened just 10 minutes after her previous one, meaning his mana had only recovered to 80% of the full reserves.

Thus far, the only person who knew how to use their class had been the little girl Jack had just fought with, which was why Jack had been able to easily beat them up, and the girl he fought did not try to break the ice before stepping on it, which would have slowed her down, however, she would win the battle since he would have to move somewhere, and that would take mana, which he would run out of sooner or later.

The last person was an orange-haired dude, with a… brick in his hand. He was clearly a monk with the light yellow radiance coming off his body, but for some reason, he had a brick in his hand.

"Hey-yo! Did you know, that the universe is actually a plate balancing on a one-legged elephant??" while saying something utterly baffling, the dude charged at Jack prepared to swing his brick.

Jack also smiled as he met a like-minded idiot.

"Oh? He-he, If it goes without saying, why do people still say it??" While saying that, Jack fired his signature three icicles, causing the orange-haired idiot to put on a stupid smile mirroring Jack's own.

Meanwhile, in the audience, silence reigned as everyone watched the finals. The two finalists constantly threw random comments which were so distracting that some of the audience even forgot about the match and began thinking about the words instead, while the two of them battled it out, magic for brick swing.

Time passed and Jack had fully depleted all his mana, while the orange-haired monk had lost all of his holy power.

The two of them looked at each other before grinning evilly, as they both discarded their mana and holy energy, and fought it out physically, after all, the two of them had more than enough stamina.

*Boom**Boom**Crack*

The brick, being the more durable weapon, broke Jack's staff, which was actually just meant for mana recovery. The orange-haired kid grinned as he began laughing victoriously, only to have his head pierced by an icicle.

While fighting physically, Jack's staff had allowed Jack to recover just enough mana for a single icicle, and after the enemy had been paralysed after having his head pierced, Jack stole his brick and beat him to death, securing the victory for him. Of course, before killing him, he gave his own stream of random bullsh*t to the poor orange-haired kid, who might actually have to end up bleaching his ears after hearing all that.

With that, Jack was selected as the leader of the class, and the orange-haired kid was selected as the vice-leader.

"Boss! Boss! Please tell me your name! I am Kai!" The orange-haired kid said while jumping onto Jack's leg and not getting off.

"Jack," Jack said before pushing Kai off him. "We'll talk later about something important, related to Tether," Jack said as he successfully peeled Kai off him. Along the way, he met the purple-haired loli, who introduced herself as Lucy.

The instructor then took all the cadets outside to the training grounds and made them take 100 laps around the running track. The reason? Such an exercise would be conducted every day, in order to maintain the physical fitness of all students.

After the exercise, Jack brought Lucy and Kai along with him, telling Ava and Max that he would meet up with them in the dorms. They headed towards the gym buildings, where there were currently almost no people.

"So, what did you want to talk about?" Lucy asked in an overbearing tone.

"Right?" Kai repeated while rapidly nodding his head.

"First of all, I beat you fair and square Lucy. So, stop acting like that. Secondly, and more importantly, what are your levels in Tether?"

"Lucy's face became slightly red at the first comment, however, after Jack got down to business, she to calmed her mind and concentrated. Immediately, she had a vague understanding of what Jack wanted to do, and so, she truthfully replied.

"Lv 7"

"Lv 8," Kai said after Lucy.

Hearing these responses, Jack was also surprised. Such levels could get them at least a B Ranked student, if not an A. This was a rather high level, and they were already considered within the top 10,000 players.

"Quick question, neither of you two are secretly from some rich secret-organisation or family right?"

Both Kai and Lucy looked at each other with large question marks above their heads, before looking at Jack speechlessly.

"Good. So, the thing is, I want to make my own guild in the game. I know that forming a guild now is only in name, and only once they release the feature in an update will I actually be able to form a guild, but I would like to invite the two of you from before to join my guild. If you feel like it, you can send me your in-game IDs, and when I create a guild, I'll invite you two. Alright, that is it for now. Since we have free time, I will be going back to playing Tether."

"Wait! Jack… What level are you in the game?" Lucy asked.

"Uhm… Well, let's just say that I am a few levels higher than either of you two. Alright then, bye"

With that, Jack ran off, leaving a stunned Lucy and Kai. However, the shock only lasted for a moment as the two of them thought that Jack was faking it. Lucy sighed before returning to her dorms, while Kai waited for Lucy to leave before sighing in relief.

'Good thing I'm such a good actor.' He said to himself as he too turned around and returned to his dorm building.
