Chapter 5

While the kids were cultivating, Nie Li was just sitting and doing nothing.

Well, this is what it would look from the outside. In his head, or inside his sea of consciousness to be exact, Nie Li is going through all the techniques Nie Li learnt from the Temporal Demon Spirit Book.

Asura appears there and asks "Are you done staring at them?"

"I wasn't staring at them." Nie Li says and the surroundings change. Now they were in a huge library with many books.

Nie Li places the book, in his hand, in the bookshelf and returns back to the sea of consciousness with another book.

The library is Nie Li's memory place. Each book is a particular memory from his life.

Asura says "I still fail to understand how that novel is useful."

Nie Li says "That's why I always say that you don't have a brain."

"Explain if you want to or fuck off. Don't test my patience." Asura says in an angry tone.

"Then listen, the novel 'A Lazy Cultivator' is an underrated novel. My friend Yan Feng was a huge fan of Wuxia novels. As a result, he ended up reading each and every Wuxia novels and wrote a novel on his own, after referring the original thing.

The novel is about a cultivator who practices a certain cultivation method which was so powerful that he didn't even need to cultivate regularly.

He was so into this novel that he ended up even writing a chant for it and explained each and every detail.

No other Wuxia novel has this. That's why this is so special. This is better than a hundred Wuxia novels." Nie Li explains.

Asura nods, agreeing to what Nie Li said.

"But, you can't use this in this world, right?" Asura asks.

"That's where Nie Li's knowledge comes in. After reviewing all the inscriptions, arrays, runes and cultivation techniques, I came to one conclusion.

The inscriptions, arrays and runes are more like programing languages. They are made from a set of fixed things similar to built-in functions.

Once you know their purpose and use, you can use those key words and play around with them to do what you want.

Cultivation technique is more like a recipe for cooking an ingredient. The way we cook it, changes the taste and effects of the dish.

Like how some dishes are quick to prepare and some take a while, some techniques raise your cultivation faster and some take time.

So, in the hands of a good chef, with good ingredients and proper cooking recipe, an excellent dish can be prepared super quick. And that's what I am going to do." Nie Li explains.

"How long will it take to make the technique?" Asura asks.

"Not long. I will have to do a taste test. I might be able to make a perfect one in a week." Nie Li says.

"You were blabbering for so long like an expert and you want this much time." Asura says with a smirk.

"Do you even know what you are saying? It takes years for even a master to make one cultivation technique. They take years for making a single technique.

They don't even test it and just start practicing. The result is reflected in the state of practitioners in the city." Nie Li shouts.

The sun rises. Lu Piao, Du Ze and Xiao Ning'er cultivated for the whole night and kept going on for another hour.

After that, one by one, they slowly opened their eyes and when they checked their soul force they were surprised.

Lu Piao had reached the soul force of 40 while Du Ze reached 57 and Xiao Ning'er broke through to the bronze rank.

She thought 'I wanted to refuse at first but then, I just wanted to try his technique. I never expected this. Nie Li is mysterious and very knowledgeable.'

She walked up to Nie Li and before she said something, Nie Li put his finger on her lips and said "I know what you were going to say. You don't have to thank a friend. Can you show me your cultivation technique?"

Xiao Ning'er hands hun the technique immediately. She thought 'If he knows techniques better than this, he wouldn't have any reason to cheat me to get mine.'

"As I thought, this technique is shit." he says and starts to point out all the flaws in the technique.

Xiao Ning'er just stood there with a shocked expression.

'This technique was passed on by my ancestors. He just called it shit.

If it was someone else, I wouldn't believe it but, Nie Li proved his knowledge in this and is also pointing out the mistakes.

It might actually be true.' she thought.

After he finished telling all the flaws in the technique, he handed it back to Xiao Ning'er and turned to Lu Piao.

He said to him "You guys go to class. I might not attend classes this week."

"Why" Lu Piao asked.

"I learnt a new thing and it takes a week to practice it."

"Be careful. I can bring you food if you like." Xiao Ning'er says looking at the ground.

Nie Li walks up to her and ruffles her hair. Her face turns red as a tomato.

Lu Piao was shocked when Nie Li did that.

Nie Li then says, "Don't worry. I have enough food. You focus on cultivation. You still have to take the medicine and get your bruises treated."

Lu Piao walks up to Nie Li's side and whispers in his ears "Brother, give me pointers on girls."

Nie Li just looks at him and smiles. He then says to Du Ze "Take this idiot and go to class. Come here when you are cultivating. That way I can help you if you have problems."

He nods and leaves with Lu Piao and Xiao Ning'er.

Nie Li sits down and says "It still hurts. I have to raise the power of this body quickly."

Nie Li gets back to preparing the technique. He created many and tested them out.

He kept correcting the flaws he saw in the technique.

The sun would set and Xiao Ning'er, Lu Piao and Du Ze would visit him.

Xiao Ning'er would arrive before for getting treated.

All three would cultivate till the next day and leave for classes. Xiao Ning'er cultivated under a tree to lessen the cold yin energy from the moon.

Nie Li even gave them sparring lessons on how to survive if met with a strong opponent.

The whole week went by like this.

Xiao Ning'er kept coming everyday for treatment.

On the eighth day, Xiao Ning'er came to get treated as usual.

Nie Li says while treating her "You know that you can't cheat a doctor, right?"

"I know but, I still want you to treat me." she says.

Xiao Ning'er doesn't have a mother. She was engaged to a womanizer by her family.

With no one to depend on and, no love and care from her family, she liked Nie Li's company. She didn't want it to stop.

Even though he called her a friend, he always stayed in the training ground.

This was the only method to talk to him. So, she cultivated with her previous technique to keep the bruises.

"You didn't have to do all that. You could have just told me." Nie Li says.

Xiao Ning'er also wanted to tell him but, she was already engaged. She didn't want to increase Nie Li's problems.

Nie Li could also guess what she was thinking. He pulls her closer and hugs her.

Xiao Ning'er was shocked at first but then, liked the warmth form it and hugged him back.

Nie Li ruffles her hair and says "Do you want to marry me?"

Xiao Ning'er was very happy when she heard that but then, she became sad.

Nie Li continues "If you agree, I can even deal with Shen Fei and his Sacred Family."

Xiao Ning'er burst into tears and hugged him while she buried her face in his chest.

She nods while doing so. Nie Li moves her a little and looks at her face.

Xiao Ning'er also stared at Nie Li. He lifts her chin while bending down.

He then locks her lips with his. He let his tongue run into her mouth.

Xiao Ning'er was kissing for the first time and she didn't know it felt this good.

They both kissed for a while and then separated.

Xiao Ning'er looked at Nie Li while blushing and said "That felt good. It was my first time but, you seemed experienced in it."

'A woman's intuition sure is scary.' he thought while saying, "It was my first time as well. My friend described how to do it and I just followed his steps."

'If I had agreed to have prior experience in this, she would think I am a womanizer as well.' he thought.

Then they both sat down and looked at the stars while Nie Li brought her shoulder closer.

Xiao Ning'er asks "You sounded like you had a plan when you said you would deal with the Sacred Family."

"Yes. If I end up going against them as I am now, I would die. I first need to gain power equal to the three major families." Nie Li says.

"You need to do what?!" shouted Lu Piao from behind.

Nie Li and Xiao Ning'er turn and look at Lu Piao.

Lu Piao looks at them and says "I am not even surprised. I saw this coming."

Du Ze ignored Lu Piao and asked "Do you really plan on doing that?"

"Yes.You don't have to get involved if you don't want to." he says.

Du Ze and Lu Piao look at each other and then at Nie Li.

Lu Piao shouts "We are brothers and brothers don't abandon each other."

Du Ze also nods in approval.

Nie Lu smiles and says "Brothers, I need you guys to help me. You too Xiao Ning'er."

All three agreed and were waiting for Nie Li to. speak.

Nie Li says "I am going to practice my first part of my cultivation technique. While doing so, I would be totally vulnerable.

Even a leaf would be able to wound me. So, I need you guys to protect me till I finish the first step."

Du Ze asks "Then what did you do the whole week?"

"I was preparing materials for this step." he says and takes out 10 jade bottles.

He looks at Du Ze and says "I will need time to prepare. Till then, place all the inscriptions around this place."

Du Ze nods and leaves with Xiao Ning'er and Lu Piao.

They placed inscriptions around the area while Nie Li drew some weird patterns on the ground with his soul force.

He then placed the 10 jade bottles around the array and opened them.

They contained a weird dark liquid. Nie Li walked towards the center of the array.

Nie Lu sat down. The three returned after completing their work. Nie Li says to them "The smell of blood might attract beasts.

Stay alert. The inscriptions will tell from which direction they will attack."

Nie Li then closed his eyes and started chanting. The patterns on the array started glowing and the weird black liquid rose up from the jade bottles.

Xiao Ning'er thought 'The black liquid had a strong scent of blood.'

The black liquid surrounded Nie Li. It formed the shape of a sphere.

It looked like a cocoon. And as expected, beasts were attracted to the smell of blood.

Lu Piao and Du Ze started killing all the beasts near them. They didn't have any trouble dealing with them.

Xiao Ning'er on the other hand, since she practiced the old technique, she wasn't strong enough and her illness made her situation worse.
