Only Hope

Licht's gauntlets weren't that highly specialized or attentively made. They were simple and plain gauntlets.

It was true, that he had focussed on them, but even he couldn't form them perfectly under exhaustion and in less time available.

But they were all he needed right now.

Small but hard spikes had formed on his knuckles, capable of giving his punches that extra deadliness he required.

His fingers were pointy and sharp, capable of scratching and digging into the hard material.

The gauntlet was quite literally attached to his hand. The sites it had come out and formed from weren't even healed as it was still connected to the insides.

Taking in a deep breath, he forgot all unnecessary thoughts out of his mind. Licht just focussed on his one and only goal right now.

'I have to kill it with minimal loss. I will have to think about food as well as injuries I will get from this battle later on,'

'What a pain…' Licht thought, but instead of grimacing that he had to fight the calamity.

He was at peace with the situation.

His calm and steady steps turned fast and uneven as he finally came near the Sentinel.

'Let's do it,'

With only some meters between them. Licht extended his hands outwards. as the pike he had just used to stop his momentum materialized into his hand.

Getting into a throwing pose, he put everything into his hands. His muscles bulged, and the pike in his hand flew off, hitting the Sentinel right in the head.

'My aim did improve, huh?' but what he saw shocked him. There was only a small dent where the sharp pike had hit it.

'What the hell?! It is that thick-skinned.'

The Sentinel lowered its head and then suddenly lashed out, moving with stunning speed for a creature of its size.

Looking at the rocky colossus that was just beyond reach, Licht gritted his teeth.

A big spear was also materializing in its hands, shocking and stopping Licht right in his tracks.

The bastard was not allowed to throw that spear…he had to be stopped at all costs.

Yet there was nothing Licht could do.

The giant closed in on him as it leaped into the air, throwing the dreadful thing at him.

Pushing his legs with everything he had, Licht moved out of the way, but he was a tad bit late.

He did get away from the spear instead, something else caught up to him.

The wind pressure and shock wave produced by that spear.

Blood spurted out of his mouth, and Licht offered his shaking legs a pale smile.

He wiped the blood off his lips as he stabbed his legs with his fingers.

The pain reminded him not to be complacent and give in to this calamity.

"I underestimated…it,"

"This is too much to handle, for fucks sake…" Licht complained, yet his eyes still burned with unyielding fervor.

Without wasting a single second, he ran in the bastard's direction. Licht only had one shot at this.

The Sentinel didn't even try to avoid closing in Licht. It was as if he was just a fly in its mind.

It raised its leg as it tried to crush an irritating fly.

Its leg stomped on the ground, completely missing out on Licht by a small margin.

Without concerning himself with unnecessary thoughts, Licht jumped on its other leg.

Then, however, the leg he was on suddenly shook.

Looking at its prey clinging to its leg, the Sentinel shook it around, trying to throw Licht off it.

Feeling a sickening emptiness in his chest, Licht slowly turned his head and saw the towering mountain of steel walking toward them.

The ground quaked with each of the giant's steps.

The nightmarish feeling of being smashed like a bug by its sole flashed in front of Licht's eyes once again, making him flinch.

Desperately clinging on to his life, Licht climbed the giant menacing figure. He used everything his body had to provide.

His sharp, bony fingers dug into the small crevices of the Sentinel, gripping tightly onto them as he climbed up.

Despite all of its attempts to squash him down, Licht finally reached its head.

He was deprived of air as he took heavy breaths again and again, apparently, it was much harder to climb it than the escarpment.

Noticing that its prey had reached the head, the Sentinel's hands moved in Licht's direction.

It came in at great speed to crush him where he stood.

'Shit!' grimacing at his predator, Licht had to fall to its shoulders without even being given the chance to do some damage.

Yet the hands never left his pursuit. The calamity slapped its own body again and again.

Each blow got stronger and faster than the previous. But it wasn't even phased by its own power.

While avoiding all this, Licht tried to scratch and punch, but nothing worked. He felt exhausted beyond reason.

The calamity could do this all day, but he couldn't. He was running on stamina which became lower with each passing second.

It didn't help knowing nothing worked on this giant, but Licht couldn't do this forever in hopes of getting that one chance.

'Think Licht think! You can't fall here, but there isn't even any way out of this.'

'The damn bastard was faster, stronger, and much-much tougher than me. What..what can I even do?'

The more Licht thought, the deeper he drowned in the questions and doubts just when something crossed his mind.

He still tried to puncture through its tough body, but after some moments, Licht knew, it wasn't possible.

'Bones maybe four times tougher than steel, but my power isn't even high enough to utilize it to the fullest,'

He had to fall back to his new plan now.

'This is going to be the only chance I will get.'

Sorry for the later chapter, was stuck between some stuff. (Not a washing machine!)
