Last One Standing

'This is going to be the only chance I will get.'

Just as his feet touched the cold ground, Licht started running.

All over his body were small and minor wounds that ate away at his already low stamina.

It didn't matter if he dodged all the attacks thrown at him. What mattered was that he was weak.

The wind pressure from every attack was too powerful. It made him sway and hold on to the Sentinel's body tightly.

Sometimes, Licht injured himself while dodging, and the gauntlets that he had made to use against it were backfiring.

Licht just wanted to stop everything and slow down. He hadn't gotten even a single second of rest in all these hours.

Running some more, he finally arrived at the edge of the cliff as his eyes darted towards the Sentinel, it looked at him from far off as if amused.

It didn't have any facial expression, but Licht could feel it was amused, amused at this game of cat and mouse.

After all, what could Licht do to it?

All of a sudden, its body vanished, appearing some meters ahead of where it previously was.

The Sentinel's speed shocked Licht, but he also had to be prepared. The final plan held his means of survival.

Another pike slowly came out of his gauntlets, right into his hand. Licht took deep breaths as he looked at the still-speeding bastard.

Its speed was too fast for Licht to even match.

But it was in no way, near what it had shown during that spear attack, and he knew why.

'It can't use that speed anytime else only when he is holding a spear.'

'A gamble with my life, how many does it make now?' he thought, faintly smiling after recalling all his battles.

Licht finally got into a throwing position when the Sentinel was only some hundred meters away.

And he threw it in the direction of the Sentinel, but instead of avoiding the pike, it directly went toward it.

Catching the pike with its hand, it crushed it as if ridiculing Licht.

Suddenly the spear it had thrown back then appeared in its hand as it ran.

With only some meters between them, it leaped into the air.

Its body radiated raw power as the spear locked onto Licht who was seemingly unmoving.

And then it happened. The spear touched the ground, missing Licht again by a small margin but not going off without putting grievous injury on his body.

Coughing up blood he looked up at the Sentinel.

Its massive body standing just a meter away from him.

Just as it lifted its legs to crush Licht, he smacked the ground as hard as he could.

Tremors went through the rocks as they started to crumble down.

Down into the darkness of the cliff.

They were already loose.

But after the spear had hit it, the rocky terrain became more susceptible to crumbling.

It needed just one push, and that was Licht's punch.

"How does that feel, you bastard?" Licht shouted, blood-filled laughter coming out of his mouth.

They both were going to fall, but Licht had thought of a way out.

The piece of rock they were on started to slide and fall off.

This all happened in just a few seconds, but as if laughing at his efforts, the Sentinel's hand caught the edge of the cliff. Its fingers punctured inside it.

It hung just with one hand.

It turned its head downwards, expecting to look at the human's dumbstruck face as he fell down on the ground with the rocks.

Despairing enveloped his body as helplessness screamed in his eyes.

But…why wasn't the human on the rock?

It couldn't see the human anywhere?

CLANG

A sound rang through his back as something started climbing up. Licht was on its back!

"You are not the only smart one….Hah-hah, I...Don't underestimate me bitch!"

In a flurry of emotions, Licht climbed from its back to its hand.

With a smug smile on his dirty, Licht put his hand around the Sentinel's fingers, plucking them off the ground one by one.

"Hahaha, how does it feel to get our roles reversed? Oh, I had forgotten you can't talk,"

"Aww, no worries though, I will remember you for some time,"

As Licht got its last finger, his voice slowly echoed, dripping with raw anger, "After. All. You. Were. My. Toughest. Enemy,"

And just as the finger was removed, the Sentinel fell.

Its body crashed into the walls again and again.

Sometimes it hit the pointy ends, breaking them in the process.

But the Sentinel's body broke in the process, its hands shattering into pieces as another penetrated its left leg.

SWOOSH!

But suddenly, something appeared in its hand. The spear flew right into its hand.

The Sentinel wedged it into the wall, trying to stop its descent, and it worked.

It was slowing down!

Despair overtook Licht's heart as he saw it, "Why won't you just die!!?"

Without wasting a second.

Licht also jumped down with it, flying to it and sliding on the wall with a nail. He once again crashed on its body.

Licht spat some of the blood that had accumulated in his mouth.

"I wouldn't rest until I kill you, and even if it means having to die myself!"

There were just some hundred meters of difference between him and the cliff's edge.

Licht still didn't have enough confidence to kill this calamity, even after it had lost one hand and one leg.

Moving his feet, he carefully went to the tip of the spear. Which was barely dwindling their descent, and started punching it.

Licht smashed his hands on it till they bled. He didn't care what happened to them.

He wouldn't let this abomination live.

If it had got that much power, it would surely come back.

Licht needed it dead to open the oasis.

This was the only chance he had.

The clanging of his fists resounded in the darkness, which was only partially illuminated by the runes on the Sentinel's body.

CLANG

Another punch went by, and cracks started to appear on the spear's body, but Licht's bones were in the same state.

His hands had profusely swelled to the limit, ready to burst apart. He could feel the broken bones in them.

But he couldn't stop here.

With the last blow, his gauntlets broke, exposing the partially healed skin beneath them.

Though, the work was done. The spear broke, and they both started to fall.

Down into the dark trench.
