12) Diego's Nightmare

(3rd person Pov)

"Who are you talking about?" Amane questioned Diego.

"I am talking about Kaizen Itoki. The headmaster of the Tokyo branch of Raijin High," replied Diego and went to pick up Rui.

Hearing Diego's words, Amane got shocked. In this world, there was only one person who could call Kaizen-sama sensei like this.

And this guy who was dressed like a beggar was that person.

"Arr~, are you Kuroshio Diego? The Walking Calamity?" Amane asked Diego, trying to hold back her excitement.

"It's been so long since someone has called me that," replied Diego.

Around a decade ago he was called the Walking Calamity. One of the strongest exorcists in all of Japan. But then that tragic incident happened that took everything from him.

The once bright and hot-headed Diego became dull and gloomy after that. Remembering about it broke Diego's heart.

'Life is shit,' he thought while holding his chest with his right hand while his mood saddened.

He vanished into thin air, leaving Amane shocked, after picking up Rui.

'Where did he go?' Amane thought while trying to find his ki signature. Every exorcist ki was different. One could easily differentiate between them.

Normal humans also had Ki. Even though it wasn't awakened it was still inside their body.

Exorcists used this ki signature method to try to locate other people. It was an easy and simple technique.

All you need to do is to focus on your surroundings and look for ki signatures nearby.

Amane did the same but wasn't able to find Diego.

'I guess he is the Walking Calamity for a reason,' she thought and headed towards the shrine to meet Itoki.

Diego had hidden his Ki too well.

(Boy's Dorm)

'It still gives me nightmares. I haven't been able to get over it,' Diego thought while looking at Rui who was sleeping comfortably in bed.

Diego was once called [The walking Calamity]. He and two more of his friends were taught by none other than Kaizen Itoki.

Kaizen Itoki was hailed as one of the strongest exorcists in all of Japan during his generation.

He had only taken four people as his students in all his lifetime. Three of them were Diego, Arashi, and Hina. They were a group of three who were known around the whole world for their battle prowess.

Diego was the most childish of them. He used to always cause trouble and didn't think twice before taking action.

He was like a walking volcano obliterating everything in his way.

'I remember getting caught while peeping into a girl's bath once,' Diego thought with a face that seemed to be lost in the sky.

While Diego was the naughty one, Hina was caring and Arashi was their leader. Arashi's calm and cool demeanour made people look up to him.

He was a prodigy. He broke through all the ranks and became a Zenin rank exorcist at the mere age of twenty while Diego was just a B-rank exorcist then.

Everything was going well in their life and they used to complete missions together. Together they were called the Shinura, three of the most monstrous students in all of Raijin High's history and Diego was the weakest of them.

When they were twenty-two years old, they got a mission to check an old ruin. The ruin had mysteriously appeared in Africa one day.

Many exorcists went to check it but none of them came out. Raijin High was troubled because of this. They were losing their forces yet they didn't know what was inside the ruin.

After thinking for a couple of days they decided to send another team to find out what was inside then the ruin. This team comprised Arashi, Hina, Gentoki, and Arien.

Arashi and Gentoki were Zenin ranked in this team while Hina and Arien were peak A-rank exorcists. This was an elite team that could destroy a city in a matter of minutes if they wished.

Diego wasn't able to join the investigation team since he was out on another mission.

When the team reached the ruin they noticed that something was off about it.

The ruin was located in the middle of the Amazon jungle but there was no living life nearby.

Having no living life in the middle of the Amazon jungle was equivalent to having no water in the ocean.

The air around it was dark, murky, and ominous. Breathing in it wasn't easy. It felt as if the ruin was connected to hell himself.

The team wondered whether they should enter the ruin or not. After discussing it for a while they decided to enter it. The place was too dangerous to be left alone.

After exploring it for a month, they came to know that this ruin was connected to the Nether itself.

It was as if a part of the Nether travelled across dimensions and ended up in the human world.

They fought many yokais. Some of them were A-rank yokais while most of them were B-rank. They were extremely tired now. They thought they had defeated all the yokais but then came the nemesis.

Two Zenin rank yokais were protecting the final room.

The fight between the yokais and the team lasted for ten days and in the end, they won. But they had suffered huge casualties.

Arien was dead while Gentoki lost an arm.

The result was still in their favour given the harsh conditions they were in. After a month and a quarter, they were finally able to explore all of the ruins and all that was left was the final room.

They made their way towards it while the atmosphere was heavy. No one was in the mood to talk. For Gentoki and Hina, Arien was like a brother.

While all of this was happening inside the ruins, Diego had come back from his mission and was waiting for them at the Tokyo branch of Raijin High.

He stayed there for a fortnight but no news about Arashi and Hina came. So he decided to go look for them in the ruins.

Taking Itoki's permission he travelled across half the earth and reached the Amazon forest.

But what he saw there decimated him. He was broken beyond measures.

Just outside the entrance of the ruins, the dead bodies of Gentoki and Hina were lying around.

Beside them stood Arashi with a wound in his chest laughing madly while holding a worn-out book.
