Volume 1 - Chapter 8: Day off

[Current location: Outside JSTA's dorm]

"Quick! Sora, open the door, I'm so tired." said Tifa as she shook Sora's shoulder hard. He silently passed his scroll to Atalanta as she unlocked the electronic lock on the door. Jean and Atalanta entered the room with their luggage, leaving Sora and Tifa in their shenanigans.

"It's open... you don't have to shake..." said Sora as Tifa took her luggage and left Sora aside as she entered the room at top speed.

*sigh*

He took his stuffs and went inside. Sora observed the interior of his new home from the living area and saw his teammate in the sleeping area. The dorm was bigger than he expected. He entered the room and saw the girls talking between them.

He couldn't help but being curious about their conversation and went toward them. As he went nearer he heard some key word: too small, no place, bunk bed? The girl's face brighten up as they saw Sora coming.

"Ah, Sora, you are here. We have a big problem." said Jean with a serious expression. Her serious expression puzzled Sora as the two girls also followed their leader's face.

"???"

"What is the problem, Jean? Maybe I can help with it." said Sora as he saw their face eased up a little.

"We need more space in the sleeping area." said Jean as she crossed her arms and the two girls nodded their head in agreement. Sora was dumbfounded. It was really about this.

Seeing his dumbfounded face, Jean couldn't help but blush a little. She thought that she gave a childish answer to Sora.

"Ahem, I mean, we have too much stuff in our luggage and we won't have space for the four of us if we were to take out everything," said Jean as she coughed into her hand. Sora paused a little as he looked around the room. He scratched his head as he acknowledged the problem.

Sora joined in their conversation. They came to a conclusion. A bunk bed, but they won't be able to make it now. So they have to deal with this small room for today.

The girls couldn't build the bunk bed, so Sora volunteer himself as the builder. Fortunately, they had a day off tomorrow before class start. This will allow Sora to buy materials tomorrow and work on it all day. He also needed space for his current and future equipment.

After the talk, Sora went to the couch in the living area as the girl went for a shower. He didn't want any problem, so he went outside obediently.

As he sat on the couch, he could hear the water running and the girls talk inside. He took his earbuds out and listened to some music on his scroll. He didn't want to get in trouble, thank you very much.

He first went to the news to see if something horrible or cool happened when they were at their initiation.

"..."

'Nothing much, eh.' thought Sora as he closed the news. The White Fang becoming more violent lately, the SDC being a piece of work every day, more faunus protest, Grimms everywhere, etc. The usual at Remnant.

He was more work up by those kinds of news when he just crossed into this world. But now, he became numb by the daily exposure. Remnant is not a happy place.

He tapped into his new knowledge from Teyvat. Sora wanted to see if he could use something that could help at his current stage.

For the next few minutes, he went through all of his new knowledge. Most of it was useless as most materials were not available in Remnant. Well, for now at least, if he could find some substitute.

He could make some potions, but their effects would be less potent. Maybe if he were to use alchemy to create those ingredients from Teyvat, thought Sora, as he scratched his chin in deep thoughts.

First, he needed the alchemy table as the minimum. He could definitely make a slightly average one with the material available in this world.

He hoped it won't be too hard to create alchemy related in this world. He would need to talk with Ozpin to lend him a room for his alchemy.

That old fox will definitely take advantage of Sora's alchemy knowledge. He can't rent something outside either because of the travel distance and class.

Damn, how unlucky... But sacrifice needs to be done. It's not like it would be bad for him in the long run. Getting his alchemy skill displayed would bring Sora enormous gain, like reputation from the world if my potions are effective enough.

Maybe he would even become an important asset for the Ozpin's secret group. Sora would need a sample first if he wanted to approach Ozpin.

He couldn't come up to him and requesting a room and a potential sponsor with nothing but empty words. He is just a 17-year-old kid at Beacon Academy, after all. Sora has no reputation at Beacon currently and none of these teachers can vouch for him.

Sora was so deep in his thoughts that he didn't see or hear Jean coming toward him as she tapped his shoulder.

Sora came off his thoughts and looked at the freshen up Jean with her cute pyjamas.

'Damn, 10/10.' thought Sora, not before shaking his head off as Jean looked at Sora's sudden action weirdly.

"You can go now, Sora. We're done with the bathroom." Said Jean as she left the common area. Sora looked at his scroll. It was pretty late. He needs to get up early in the morning tomorrow.

"Shower time it is." said Sora as he went toward the bathroom with his towel as he entered the bathroom.

"Ahh, I needed that shower." said Sora as he entered the sleeping area with his sleeping attire. He saw the girls on their bed and already sleeping.

'They must have been pretty exhausted today huh.' thought Sora as he took the bed across Jean's.

He lay down on his bed and thought about tomorrow's plan. He would cook breakfast before leaving and go for the bullhead soon after that. Sora got sleepy from his active thought as he slept soundly after a few minutes.

Everyone on the team slept without worry till morning. The night went without a hitch. Birds could be heard outside chirping happily.

Unfortunately, this beautiful morning got spoiled by an alarm sound coming from Sora's scroll. He woke up in a daze as his upper body stood up from the bed automatically.

He took his scroll from the nightstand near him and turn off the alarm. He yawned loudly enough to announce his tiredness.

Sora stood still for the next minutes on the bed. He is woke enough to know that he will be extremely busy today. Sora left his bed toward the shower. He needed to be ready. He had enough time to make breakfast for himself before leaving for the bullhead.

The bullhead won't be in service till 6:30 am every day. Sora woke up at 5:30. He had enough time for his daily routine. He left his dorm toward the school's student lounge.

The student lounge is a building away from the dining hall. Students may cook so long as it was tame and could relax there, so long as they didn't stir cause a trouble.

Sora went inside the room and saw no one inside the lounge. It was a big place with a lot of things inside. He could see a kitchen inside, with many tables available in the cooking area.

Sora hummed toward the kitchen area and took a look at the fridge beside him. He saw many ingredients filled inside. Sora thought about what to eat for breakfast.

Well, if I'm going to eat I might as well make something that would increase my acting progress.. He took a green apron nearby as he started by picking ingredients.

The Woodland Dream it is then. This is Albedo's specialty. The fruits and vegetables are laid out like grass, and they stand tall like trees. In this miniature world-in-a-plate, you circle the mottled city wall, follow brown alleys, and enter the light orange castle. A sweet, tender taste then bursts forth like a blooming flower.

Fortunately, many ingredients were available for his cooking. He took out a black cod, 30g butter, lemon juice and salt and pepper.

Next, he took the vegetables such as broccoli, carrot, button mushrooms, green beans, tomatoes, rosemary, sage and more butter. Sora took the balsamic vinegar and sugar he found on the top shelves.

He took a pot, put in 250ml balsamic vinegar and reduce in half. Then put in 1/2 cup of sugar and reduce in half again. Set aside and keep at room temperature.

Sora prepared a filet of black cod. He got four black cod fillets. He seasoned the black cod with salt and pepper generously.

He gently places black cod in a smoking hot pan with canola oil. Once all filets are in, lower heat to medium and sear until golden brown. He waited about 3 minutes and flipped the fish when browning is achieved.

Sora added 30g of butter and a squeeze of lemon, then baste the fish with melted butter for 2 minutes and then set aside.

He lastly boiled the broccoli, mushrooms and beans for 2 minutes and boiled the carrots for 4 minutes. He combined in a bowl and add butter. Sora tossed the butter until it melts.

And Voila, one Woodland Dream to go. It's time for plating. He took a dish and plated his food.

He took his breakfast toward the table and sat on the chair. As he ate, he heard the system sound.

He was right about cooking, as he frowned at the sudden bit of knowledge of an experienced chef. Sora was happy about his new skill.

He could make a lot of dessert with his new skill. When both of his physical and mental capacity are spent, high-energy materials further provide a kind of primordial, highly effective boost.

He ate alone and silently as the time passed.

Sora left the student lounge as the bullhead service will go live soon. He made a trip to his dorm for money before he left Beacon toward Vale. He arrived in front of his dorm. Sora was in the motion of opening the door, but stopped in place.

He just thought that the girls or at least one of the girl woke up. He didn't want to encounter a problem this early in the morning.

So Sora knocked on the door.

"No one is up yet, that's good." said Sora as he opened the electric lock with his scroll. He went inside and opened the sleeping area door. He confirmed the sleeping condition of the three girls.

He didn't want to make more sound as he took his money pouch and directly left the dorm toward the bullhead.

He arrived in time as the first airship was going to leave with some people already boarding it. He went toward the line and joined the bullhead. Sora took a seat inside, closed his eyes, and waited patiently.

Not even 10 minutes did the bullhead left Beacon toward Vale.
