Overpower

Adonis furrowed his brow.

"...What the hell is that?"

The strange figure looked humanoid, but it was also pitch black, almost like a shadow. It was holding onto what looked like a spear, that also looked pitch black.

Killian narrowed his eyes.

"Hey, look at what it's standing on."

A glint flashed by Zenos' eyes.

"...The test results."

There was a small pedestal in the middle of the room, and on top of it was a familiar-looking black box. And on top of that, was the strange figure. It was standing on that box with the tips of its toes and had its knees bent, almost like it was ready to leap at any moment.

However, it remained perfectly still.

Damien glanced back at the room they were just in. The second floor almost looked like it was made for people to watch those below, as it would be in a stadium.

He then looked back into the room ahead of them.

There were bright spotlights in each corner of the large room, shining brightly onto the figure in the center. Other than that, the room was also purely white, as though wanting to be as blinding as possible.

Damien clicked his tongue.

"Looks like it has no plans of giving up the test results."

Adonis raised an eyebrow.

"It doesn't look like it's moving. Maybe we don't have to fight it?"

Zenos scowled.

"It definitely purposely put itself on top of the test results, waiting for someone else to take it. There's no way we're getting that thing without a fight."

Killian brought out his shotgun.

"Then let's get started. How much can one thing do to four people?"

Zenos rubbed his chin.

"It does appear as though I could shoot it with my sniper relatively easily. After all, it's not moving."

Damien rubbed his eyes which were strained from the light within.

"But why in the world is there a light in this room in the first place, and why do they need so many?"

Adonis blinked a few times.

"Is it really that strange for the room to be lit up?"

Damien stared at the black figure in the center of the room.

"...All the lights for the other rooms were shut off, and they weren't set up to all be shining on the center like this. There's definitely some sort of reason they decided to do this."

Killian waved his hand dismissively.

"Even if that's the case, it's not like we're going to be able to find out why. We might as well try to fight it."

Damien took a deep breath.

"Well, I guess you're not wrong."

Killian walked into the room without caring too much, shotgun at the ready. However, Zenos called out to him.

"Hey, we should at least make a plan since it isn't moving right now. Being set up properly can let us perform it cleanly."

Killian stopped in place. He seemed reluctant, but turned back around.

"Alright then, so what's the plan?"

Zenos cleared his throat.

"First off, we definitely don't want to hit each other with our guns, so it's best we make a formation similar to a semi-circle, with everyone holding a range that is optimal for their weapon."

He then pointed to the figure.

"All of us will point our weapons at the thing, and I will do a countdown before shooting. Ideally, whatever that is will be dead after taking a sniper bullet to the head, but if not, that's when the rest of you act."

He gave everyone a glance.

Damien shrugged his shoulders.

"Sounds good. With how little we know, it's not like we can come up with a better strategy."

Adonis took the light machine gun off of his back.

"Then we may as well get started now."

He stepped into the room and positioned himself roughly twenty meters away on the right, which meant he was roughly halfway in the room. Killian did the same but on the left and switched out his shotgun for the submachine gun.

As for Damien, he just remained at the door frame, holding his pistol up with both hands.

Zenos looked at him questioningly.

"Are you sure you're close enough?"

Damien let out a chuckle.

"If it were before I knew how this pistol worked, then I definitely wouldn't. But this thing is really accurate as long as your hand doesn't move while it fires."

Zenos looked at him for a while longer before turning away.

"Alright then."

He got his sniper rifle out and after fumbling around for a bit, he found an extendable stand. Zenos then rested it down on the ground before pointing towards the figure in the middle.

He called out to everyone.

"Does anybody still need time?"

There was no response.

Zenos took a deep breath.

"Then I'm starting the countdown."

Everyone tensed up slightly, and kept their weapons aimed at the figure in the middle.

Zenos looked down the scope, aimed it at the head, and started counting.

"3...2...1!"

He pulled the trigger, letting out an explosive bang, with flames that licked the muzzle. The bullet that shot out went directly to where it was supposed to go, but a frown formed on Zenos' face.

Because as he was pulling the trigger, the figure in the middle of the room tilted its head to the side.

The bullet zipped right past, before slamming hard into the wall behind it, causing quite a few cracks to form.

Killian narrowed his eyes.

"Shit!"

He began firing his submachine gun at the figure.

Adonis' frown deepened considerably as he held down the trigger for his light machine gun as well.

As for Damien, right when he saw the monster tilt its head, he shot a bullet towards its torso.

Yet, as though making fun of all of them, it leaped up high into the air, dodging most of the bullets.

Damien yelled out to the others.

"Don't waste your bullets! Only fire if you think you can hit it!"

Both Adonis and Killian let go of their triggers when they heard that. They had their guns tilted upwards, but they weren't confident in hitting their target.

As the figure began falling to the ground, Damien fired another shot at its torso.

While it was accurate, the figure had already brought its spear up in the way, blocking it.

Seeing this, Damien's eyes narrowed.

Not only was the thing intelligent, but it was also observing their hands to predict their shots.

Upon landing on the ground, both Adonis and Killian began firing once more. Despite blocking some of them with its spear, a few of the bullets hit its body, causing pitch-black blood to splatter out. When it landed on the floor, it looked as though the ground had been painted with ink.

The moment the figure touched the ground, it pushed down hard with its foot, bolting towards Killian like a lightning bolt.

In a panic, Killian pulled out his shotgun, but before he could line up a shot, the figure whipped its spear, slamming hard onto the side of the shotgun and flinging it across the room.

Damien frowned and called out.

"We will hit each other if we use bullets! Get your katanas out!"

Before he had even said that, Killian was already unsheathing his katana. Thankfully with how these kinds of swords were designed, he was able to pull it out quickly, just in time to block a spear coming down straight towards his head.

A bang resounded, while Killian's expression distorted severely.

"Fuck!"

He was easily overpowered. But the figure did not press its advantage, instead, it pulled back, before lunging forth.

Man... imagine if they tried to use the old strategy of sneaking in without anybody noticing.
