Chapter 11: First Run

The bright sunlight hit me in the eyes, causing me to wake up. I sat up quickly, and looked around myself. I was in the middle of the forest. Totally naked, and extremely hungry. My nude state made me uncomfortable to stand up. Still, I got up and sighed. Suddenly I felt something weird. It's the beginning of March, and I should be shivering. Instead, I was standing with ease, while the wind whipped at the trees around me. A low thumping sound began to fill my ears. A heartbeat, maybe Jacob's. I started to move towards the sound.

As I looked towards the source of the sound. When I felt the need to squint my eyes to see beyond the trees, my vision changed. My surroundings zoomed in and I could see every detail. The veins in each leaf. The different hues of light became clear to me. I then noticed Jacob's tall, muscular figure in the distance. It seemed as if he noticed me too, because he picked up his pace. I focused on him, and as he got closer, I noticed that he too was naked. Ashamed by both of our nude states, I quickly spun around to face away from him.

"Jake-what the- where are your clothes!" I managed to choke out.

"Noah please, you're gonna have to get used to being naked and seeing other pack members naked. Even Leah." Jake said with ease.

"What?! No- first of all, she is your girlfriend, and second of all, isn't there any way to keep my clothes with me. I mean I could keep like a stash in the forest, right?" I asked.

Jake's strong hands spun me around to look at him. I cringed away.

"No, because your clothes would get dirty or some other animal would take it. Now shut up and tell me if you remember anything from last night?"

My mind scrambled, but I couldn't recall anything. Jake noticed my confusion.

"Fine, why don't we go on a run? You can go ahead and phase we'll go in our wolf form."

"Oh, um ok?" I didn't know exactly how to phase yet.

"Ok then, I'll go first."

With that, Jake exploded into a reddish brown wolf. Only his fur had more red than brown. While mine had more brown than red. I guess fur color just comes in the family. Seeing Jacob phase, I felt the need to phase too. I suddenly felt myself getting bigger and taller. Until I too exploded into my ware wolf form.

'Noah!'

I looked at Jake. How did I hear his voice? His lips weren't moving, and hopefully ware wolves can't talk.

'You're right, ware wolves don't talk. But we can read a phased pack members' mind. Right now you can read mine.'

'Is that why in the pack house, it felt like you knew what I was thinking?'

'Yes. Already phased wolves can read upcoming pack member's minds. It helps us prepare, and so we can supervise the phasing.'

'So, what exactly did you read?'

'Except for all those hand touches and almost kisses with the vampire girl? Not that much.'

A wolfy grin spread across Jake's face.

'Oh no!'

A realization hit me.

'We've been gone for a day! Addison and Kayla must be so worried. And what if Katie's getting suspicious?'

'Don't worry, if run fast enough, we can steal some people's laundry and sneak inside the house. We'll get there after mom goes to work and Kayla goes to school.'

'Ok then, lead the way.'

With that, Jake pushed off and launched into a sprint. I too ran after him. The wind whipped at my fur, but my vision never blurred from my speed. Everything was clear. Little rainbows appeared from drops of water. Every spec of dirt and dust. Within a matter of seconds, sounds of civilization drifted into my ears.

'Noah, we're getting near the highway. I am going to take a roundabout route, so we can stay hidden in the forest.'

Jacob made a sharp turn and headed deeper into the forest. The sounds of the rushing cars, beating hearts, people talking, the music, and radios flowed into my ears in a continuous stream. We were streaking through the woods surrounding the roads. I didn't get a hint of how fast I was moving, until I saw a rain drop fall from a leaf. It felt slowly, and I witnessed it. It was as of the world was moving in slow motion, while I speeding like a bullet.

Bonnie:

My hands clenched at the bedsheets. It had only been a few minutes after I had taken some vervain. The drink works against vampires. It burns when It touches the body of a vampire. It also works a cure to compulsion. It had only been a day since my magic was triggered. Grams had told me about our witch bloodline, but Katherine killed her before she could teach me more about my powers. I was weak and alone, and my weakness made it easy for Katherine to compel me. Grams was able to tell me about the vervain right before she died but nothing more. Then she whispered someone's name: Enzo. During the day I am spending my time looking for this man named Enzo, who must be a witch, and during the night, Katherine compels me to work for her.

Katherine isn't an original vampire, bit her age makes her very strong. It takes a high dose of vervain to get her compulsion off of me. Thankfully vampires can't smell vervain, or she would've compelled me to stop taking vervain. She had me using my locator spell-the only spell she let me learn from my Grams-to keep an eye on a human. Now that he is a ware wolf, Katherine is going to make me work overtime. The moment I find this Enzo guy, and get his help, I will show Katherine the extent of my powers.
