Chapter 10: Each with Their Own Opinions

Akainu looked at Garp with widened eyes. Now he understood why Garp had sneaked away earlier and glared at him. It seemed like Garp was feeling guilty.

However, realizing that he himself had secretly harbored wanted criminals within the Navy, Akainu gave Garp a knowing look, as if they were in the same boat.

Garp noticed Aokiji's raised eyebrows and gestures but chose to ignore him, giving him a displeased glare in return.

Their relationship was generally good, with Akainu being Garp's mentor when he was still a rookie. In a way, Garp was like Akainu's protégé, and it was quite coincidental that they both committed this act in the same year.

Unlike Aokiji's nonchalant reaction, Akainu glanced at Garp with indifference, as if saying, "It's none of my concern."

Only Sengoku, upon hearing about Garp adopting Roger's son, looked at him disapprovingly and let out a cold snort. If it were someone else instead of Garp, Sengoku would have taken him down without hesitation.

While the Navy could temporarily contain the ripples caused by Garp's actions, among the common people worldwide, the news of a Navy hero adopting the son of the Pirate King and raising him as a pirate had already caused a major uproar.

They simply couldn't comprehend why the esteemed Navy would commit such an act.

Was this Navy hero actually a traitor?

The common people had suffered from pirate raids and endured countless hardships, and now they saw the Navy's high-ranking officials treating the Pirate King's son as a close ally and even raising him as their own.

They felt betrayed.

The Navy and the pirates seemed like one big family. It was a confusing world indeed.

The immediate response from the angry crowd was demanding an explanation from the Navy.

However, in an era without the internet, this anger couldn't gather momentum. Even if they could share this news through live broadcasts, they couldn't form a cohesive force and couldn't create much of a stir.

In the footage, the mysterious man responded to Ace's question.

"Correct answer. Twenty-two years ago, the Pirate King Roger decided to turn himself in. In prison, he met Garp and entrusted his pregnant wife to Garp's care.

Garp, not expecting such misfortune to befall his wife and child, reluctantly agreed to Roger's request.

After Roger's public execution, Garp promised to go to Baltigo Island to meet Rouge and their unborn child. However, by that time, Baltigo Island had been seized by the Navy, who were hunting down all pregnant women and newborn children of the Pirate King's bloodline.

So Garp had to postpone the plan until two years later when the Navy left. But when he arrived there, he only saw Rouge, who had exhausted her strength and died, and Ace, who had just been born after being carried for two years.

Afterward, Garp brought Ace back to his hometown, claiming him to be his own grandson and raising him together with his own biological grandson."

The Whitebeard Pirates were shocked by Ace's tumultuous background.

His mother had concealed her pregnancy for two years before giving birth, and as soon as Ace was born, his father had already passed away, and his mother died shortly after, leaving him as an orphan.

If it weren't for Garp's sense of duty, loyalty, and principles, Ace wouldn't have survived.

The crew couldn't help but feel amazed. They never expected that the son of the Pirate King would have to rely on the Navy to survive. Such a twisted fate!

However, they soon discovered an interesting point.

That point was Garp treating Ace as his grandson after adopting him.

Now Ace was both the son of Whitebeard and the adopted son of Garp.

In that case, Garp has really surpassed their old man.

Someone asked this awkward question.

Seeing the puzzled expressions of the crew, even Whitebeard realized this point. He silently cursed Garp, calling him an old fox. Even after Roger's death, he still wanted to take advantage of Roger's situation.

Calling Roger's son his grandson meant that Roger would be considered Garp's contemporary. Clearly, Garp and Roger were from the same generation, with only a few years' difference in age. This old guy was really dishonest.

Now, not only did he surpass Roger's generation, but he also claimed authority over him. Ace was his foster son, and he called Garp his grandfather. What a mess!

Whitebeard's words resolved their doubts, but they couldn't see the embarrassment behind Whitebeard's laughter.

This conversation also reached the headquarters of the Navy, and the people there couldn't help but be amused by Garp's actions. Moreover, when they heard that Garp saved Ace because he didn't want harm to befall his wife and child, they understood him a bit more.

It was normal for someone like Garp, with his sense of justice, to do something like this. In fact, it would be abnormal if Garp had refused Roger's request.

Regardless, the child was innocent.

Not everyone was as cold and heartless as Akainu.
