Chapter 34

Reid's eyes widened in response. He stood frozen in shock. He knew they were ready to lunch their attack at any time but he still wasn't expecting it to be this soon.

'Am I really ready for war?' He questioned himself. Taking out a squad of a few weak intruders and participating in war were two different things.

He was snapped out of his thoughts by Lisa shaking his shoulders, looking at him in worry. To her, although he was strong, he was still just a child and children should have no place in war.

"Lady Miko wants you back home immediately. Let's get going." She spoke, gesturing for them to make their way back. He nodded and sped behind her as they went on their way.

It didn't take them time to reach his house but they didn't stop there. Lisa instead continued to lead them towards and into the the building some distance from the house.

Knowing where they were, Reid didn't question it too much. Upon entering the building, they climbed the first flight of stairs and were met with the sight of Miko and the important figures of the village gathered around a table.

They kept their distance but some words were still heard.

"…meet them before they reach…stay back to protect…no survivors…" These were the bits and pieces that they were able to pick out from how far the were.

These snippets of words he heard were able to send Reid back into thought. He was truly afraid of war but it seemed like it was unavoidable. His fear reached a new high when he heard the next words.

"…I will personally fight on the frontlines…" His eyes widened to the extreme as he processed that bit of information.

'Personally fight…frontlines? No!' He tried to deny in his heart. He thought of the possibility of what could happen and he didn't like it one bit.

People die in war!!!

'Why…' His mind was in shambles and Lisa seemed to notice that but there was nothing she could do about it.

He was so distracted he didn't notice when the meeting ended and his mother knelt in front of him.

"Reid? What's wrong?" She asked worriedly, seeing the look on his face. He mumbled in a low voice that she didn't hear until she strained her ears.

"…don't go…please…don't go…" He pleaded repeatedly. She was shaken by the amount of fear and emotion in his voice. It played with her heart strings.

As much as she wanted to hug him and tell him that she wasn't going, she couldn't.

"I'm sorry Reid, but that's not possible." She spoke softly as she held him tight. She felt his breath hitch and his body tremble as she spoke.

"There's no need to be afraid. I'll be back…I'll always come back." She whispered in his ear, consoling him. The trembling reduced a bit at that but it hadn't fully subsided.

Sometimes she forgot that as mature and strong he seemed, he was truly just a child. Him having a mature mind only made things worse as he understood the severity of war.

'Why can't things go the way we want? Why does there need to be violence?' She truly pondered as she held her sobbing child.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After that day, Reid had been more paranoid and alert than usual. Nobody other than Miko and Lisa were aware that he unlocked his sharingan and he was content with keeping it like that.
For some reason he couldn't explain, he could feel something looming in the shadows. He would need every element of surprise he had.
His paranoia and fear caused him to put even more time and effort into leveling up [Lightning Aura Transformation]. At this moment it was at level 29 and he still wasn't satisfied.
It had gotten to the level that it would do more than paralyze an opponent but nothing lethal. He could also now use it at a moment's notice and that was good for him.
Right now he stood at the gates of the village, watching the soldiers march off to war. Beside him was his mother who also watched and supervised them.
Apparently she wasn't going to the frontlines unless things got desperate or there was a need for it. In the mean time, there were four sets of soldiers, each of which would be lead by the one of the council members, Viktor and Vivian included.
Watching them go, Miko couldn't help but sigh in her heart as she looked at Reid beside her. It is unfortunate that her child has to experience this but if it's going to happen, she must make sure he is prepared.
"Let's go Reid. We're going to step up your training!" She announced as they turned to walk back.
"I understand." Reid spoke determinedly, walking behind her.
The soldiers trudged on their way to their respective battle fields. There were enemy troops stationed in different directions so they had been organized and sent off to defend against each side.
The soldiers led by Viktor were confident, knowing who lead them. There hadn't been any big battles for some time but no one who is a soldier isn't aware of the might of the war general Viktor. His presence alone brought them assurance that they had won this fight.
This was the same thing that happened with the two other groups of soldiers. Vivian's group on the other hand…
"Why do we have to be led by this woman?" One soldier asked.
"She doesn't look that strong…" Another one whispered.
"How did someone like this even end up in the council?" Another soldier asked.
Vivian who was listening to all of this kept a calm face. Her mind was a different case entirely. She rained curses on them as they departed from the other company.
'Idiots! You're all idiots!' She cursed back, though they couldn't hear it.
They trudged on in the direction of the enemy they were supposed to face. After sometime of walking they slowed down a bit.
"They're not here?"
"There's nobody here."
"Was the intel wrong."
Different questions were asked as they couldn't even see the outline of the enemy in the distance and they were getting anxious.
They were informed that the Turwen enemy soldiers were in this direction but they had yet to even sight them. While all of them were confused, only Vivian kept to herself.
'Don't bother looking around. You'll all be dead soon.' As soon as she thought those words, the ground in the middle of the soldiers suddenly exploded!
