Road to Demon Lord.

Eric, an orphan from birth, leads an ordinary and unassuming life. Until he is killed in a traffic accident that is. But death is of course not the end for someone like a novel protagonist. Eric wakes up from his death slumber in the body of a demon that looks very similar to his original appearance. Also, it seems that the demon he possessed was the master of a dungeon. Although, the dungeon is completely annihilated and has nothing in it. Will Eric be able to repair the dungeon? Will he be able to get stronger? Will he become the Demon Lord? A few points to note before reading: 1) MC is a villain. Although he won't go out of his way to harm others, he will not hesitate to kill if it means his own survival. 2) The crow in the cover image is named 'Corvis' and he is the most important side character in the novel. 3) I don't plan on having romance in this novel.

First Fight.

"Corvis, do you think I can win the fight?", I asked.

"Crrrrr...", Corvis pondered before answering.

"Craw!", and then he once again nodded affirmatively.

"Good... can you show me the way to them then?"

"Craw!"

And just like that, me and Corvis were on our way to get some magic stones.

--- an hour of walking later ---

"Corvis... are you sure there's going to be magic stones in this direction?", I whined to Corvis.

"Craw! Craw!", Corvis seemed to yell 'Patience Patience!' to me.

We were walking through the decrepit corridors of what once used to be my own dungeon it seems.

'Just how big was my dungeon anyway? This is getting a bit tedious to walk through...', I whined internally.

If my dungeon was this big, it must mean that before I took over this body, this body was quite a strong dungeon master...

'I wonder what happened to this body's original owner...', I thought.

'And also, why is his face so similar to my own? It's like we're brothers or something...'

As I was walking monotonously with Corvis, I began recalling my past life.

I was a 17-year-old student... aspiring to be a game developer... I had even made a few games on my own in the past.

The reason for this aspiration wasn't because I liked doing it, but because game development had the potential to bring a lot of money, which I was in desperate need of.

My parents died before I could even remember them, so I was raised in an orphanage. I wasn't a gloomy and dark kid, but I was definitely a bit strange. For example, my temper was unusually cold for a kid. I wouldn't get mad easily, which was strange because almost all kids get mad over the darndest things. I also wouldn't cry even if I got hurt severely.

All in all, I was a tough bastard, haha.

Maybe because of my personality, I have been able to not worry about the fact that I have died back on earth and now I am in another world as a dungeon master...

Or it may be because I have no lingering attachments from Earth. I had a few friends, but none of them close enough to cry for me if I died. Not to mention a girlfriend, I of course didn't have one. It wasn't like I wasn't interested in romance, I just didn't get the time or opportunity for it...

As I was reminiscing about the past, Corvis yelled out, pulling me out of my trance.

"CRAW!", Corvis seemed to warn me about what was ahead.

'This must be the place where I will be fighting...', I thought as I readied myself to cast magic.

Speaking of magic, I had already practised some magic before coming here. Casting magic is as simple as saying the spell's name out loud and the rest is taken care of by my mind. As soon as a cast magic, an array of calculations enter my brain and I have to solve them to cast the spell properly, or else the spell might not work or misfire.

The calculations weren't that difficult, it was mostly basic circle and triangular geometry, both of which I was proficient in thanks to me being a game developer.

"Crrraaawww...", Corvis dived down from the air and landed on my right shoulder.

"Are the enemies beyond that door?", I whispered.

"Crraw...", Corvis whispered back affirmatively.

I prepared myself for the worst and went ahead to push the door open.

*BAM!* *DHAM!*

I violently kicked the door with all my might and immediately threw a glowing crystal inside the room to discern what was inside.

What I saw inside was a strange sight to behold.

The wall opposite to the door was demolished and a cave now took its place.

"GRAHHH!" *GHHOOOUUUUU!*

Two humanoid creatures. They looked like zombies but were definitely faster and louder than them... not that I would know what zombies look and sound like...

I quickly dodged the assault by the 2 zombies and focused on them to open that window again.

[Ghoul]

[Ghoul]

[Status: Bloodthirsty]

[HP: 80/100]

'Ghouls!', I internally yelled before raising my hands towards them and casting "Dark Knives!" out loud.

Two dark purple magic sigils appeared on my palms and immediately afterwards they shot out 2 black coloured knives each.

*SHIK* *SHIK* *TANG!* *SIIIEK*

Two of the knives hit one of the ghouls and the other one managed to dodge the knives, with one barely grazing its hand.

'Damnit!', I cursed.

"CRAW!", suddenly Corvis yelled out and all of a sudden, I could see something glowing red in my field of vision.

Instinctively, I jolted away and for a split second, I saw what could have very well been my death.

An arrow.

'What the?!', but I couldn't investigate further. The ghouls were on me.

"GHAAAAA" "GHOOOOO"

The two ghouls had almost managed to pin me to the ground. Almost.

"SHADOW BIND!", I yelled out, creating a magic sigil beneath the two ghouls and catching them in place with 5 black chains.

"GHHHHOOOOOUUU" *THANNG* *PULL*

The ghouls struggled to get out of the chains but I didn't let them struggle for long.

"Miasma Spike.", I chanted, creating a magic sigil beneath one of the ghouls and impaling it with the 4ft tall black spike that materialised out of the magic sigil.

"GHOUUU!" *BREAK!*

The other ghoul managed to break the chains holding him and charged at me.

"Dark Knives.", I calmly chanted, killing the weakened ghoul with the 4 black knives.

...

Silence...

"Craw!", Corvis shouted.

"Haha! Yeah... I did it...", I patted my own back. Mentally.

'But... what was that earlier?', I recalled the red glow before dodging the arrow that could have killed me.

"Craw! Craw!", Corvis seemed proud for some reason.

"Wait... don't tell me... was that you?"

"Craw!", that affirmative nod again.

"Haha... you're amazing... thanks!", I thanked Corvis for saving my life.

"Craw! .... Craw, Craw, Craw?!", Corvis appreciated the gratitude but was furious at whatever could have shot the arrow at me.

"Yeah, that's right... I wonder who that was... I'll have to check that out later..."

"But before that! Lets collect the spoils of war!", I exclaimed as I walked towards the bodies of the ghouls.

"Umm... Corvis? How can I get the magic stone?", I asked my trusty guide.

"Craw, Craw!"

"Leave it to you? okay...", I let Corvis deal with the magic crystal finding.

"Crrrraaw! CRAW!" *TEAR*

Corvis plunged his beak into one of the bodies at roughly the location of their heart and started tearing apart their flesh.

'Kinda gruesome... But I guess Corvis IS a crow... Crows normally eat their food like this...', I thought to myself.

Also, it seems that Corvis here is actually way more useful than I initially thought... That 'skill' he has that alerted me about the incoming arrow was quite handy...

As I was thinking these thoughts, Corvis interrupted me and yelled "CRAW!"

The magic crystals were already out of the corpses and Covis had neatly placed them close to my feet.

"Haha, thanks Corvis!", I showed my sincere gratitude as I picked up the magic stones and Corvis flew to my right shoulder again.

"Now... what don't we try something interesting?", I said to Corvis as I smirked a bit.

"Craw!", Corvis yelled affirmatively.

"Okay, here goes...", I exhaled and prepared to cast magic.

"Raise Undead.", I chanted.

Immediately, a bunch of strange calculations filled my head. Calculations that were very different from the ones of Dark magic spells.

It almost felt like programming some kind of third-person character controller... It felt like I was creating a marionette with the ghoul's body as the puppet and me as the puppeteer.

As soon as I finished the calculations, I saw a black magic sigil that glowed with an eery colour appear beneath the two ghoul bodies.

Slowly but surely, I could see the rotting flesh on the bodies get disintegrated and exposing the bones underneath.

After all of the flesh was gone, the skeletons left behind slowly rose from the ground.

*SHHHHAAAA* *clatter*

The skeletons stood upright, looked at me with their nonexistent eyes and bowed down as if paying respect to their king.

It made me feel kind of powerful...

I smirked and looked at my new undead allies.

"Let's go and investigate my attacker...", I said out loud to which Corvis yelled affirmatively and as if it was already expecting it, he flew up from my shoulder and signalled me to follow him.

'Seems like Corvis has already gotten a hint of where the attacker has fled to... Good...', I thought before commanding "Follow me." to my two new skeleton minions.

*tap* *tap*

The skeletons nodded and walked with me.

'Let's get the Dungeon core up and running as soon as possible...'
