Rift through Space

They say you truly know someone when facing hardship. That rings painfully true for us, orphaned and struggling to survive together. We believed in our camaraderie, forged through years of adversity and sacrifice. But when the moment of truth arrived, it all crumbled with shattered trust and broken dreams. 『 Author's note: Hey everyone! How have you been? I'm finally getting back to writing. I've been struggling a bit with creating plots and letting my egotistical imagination run wild here, haha. Anyways, I wanted to mention that the cover of this novel isn't originally mine. The background image of space was simply found via Canva, while the character was generated using AI. If it doesn't meet your liking, I can take it down and create a new one from scratch. Ciao!~ 』

Chapter 10: Obscuration

As the black fog crept closer, its tendrils weaving through the trees with malevolent intent, each member of the Tarot felt the weight of uncertainty pressing upon them.

Leo, the Magician, stood at the center of their camp, his eyes flickering between his companions and the shadowy outskirts where Viktor lurked.

"He's still out there," Leo muttered to Ethan, his voice low yet resolute. "We can't afford to underestimate him."

Ethan, the Hanged Man, nodded solemnly, his gaze fixed on the shifting patterns of darkness. "He won't get the chance to hurt us again," Ethan vowed, his fists clenched in determination.

Anna, the High Priestess, stepped forward with quiet authority, her presence a calming influence amidst the mounting tension. "Let us remain vigilant," she urged, her voice steady. "Our unity is our strength."

Sofia, the Empress, glanced towards Marko, the Emperor, her hand seeking his for reassurance. "Together, we can face anything," she murmured, her voice betraying a hint of anxiety.

Marko nodded firmly, his jaw set in determination. "We stand as one," he affirmed, his eyes scanning the perimeter for any sign of danger.

Across the campfire, Alexie, the Devil, scoffed disdainfully. "We should have seen this coming," she snapped, her tone cutting like a blade. "No one should have trusted him."

Nikolai, the Hermit, emerged from his makeshift shelter, rubbing his eyes sleepily. "What's going on?" he asked, his voice tinged with confusion.

Katerina, the Lovers, approached Nikolai with a reassuring smile. "We're facing a new challenge," she explained gently, her hand resting comfortingly on his shoulder.

Boris, the Hierophant, strummed his old harmonica softly, the melancholy tune a stark contrast to the tension in the air. "Music always helps calm the nerves," he offered with a wistful smile.

Isabella, Strength personified, flexed her muscles nervously, her eyes scanning the forest with acute awareness. "We can't let fear paralyze us," she declared, her voice steady despite her apprehension.

Vladimir, the Chariot, adjusted his stance, his gaze fixed on the horizon with unwavering determination. "We will find a way through this," he stated confidently, his mind already formulating a plan.

Julia, Justice, and Anastasia, the Star, huddled together, their heads bent close as they discussed their next move in hushed tones. "We need to keep that evidence safe," Julia insisted, her eyes darting towards Viktor's lurking silhouette.

Pavel, Temperance, surveyed their camp with a calm demeanor, his patience a stark contrast to the urgency of their situation. "Let's ensure we're prepared for whatever comes," he suggested calmly, his voice a balm amidst the rising anxiety.

Gregor, the Wheel of Fortune, checked their supplies methodically, his focus on practicality unwavering. "We'll make it through," he assured them, his faith in their collective resilience unwavering.

Larisa, the Moon, stood beside Mikhail, the Sun, her gaze shifting nervously between the darkening sky and the determined faces of her companions.

Mikhail grinned broadly, his optimism infectious even in the face of impending danger. "We've faced worse," he remarked cheerfully, his tone light yet reassuring.

Daria, the World, gathered the younger ones closer to her, her role as their protector clear in her nurturing gaze. "Stay close," she urged them softly, her voice a gentle reminder of their shared vulnerability.

Andrei, the Fool, approached Leo with a sheepish grin, his usual bravado tempered by the seriousness of their predicament. "Guess I got us into another mess," he quipped nervously, his eyes darting towards Viktor's hidden form.

Leo placed a reassuring hand on Andrei's shoulder, a small smile touching his lips. "We'll get through this," Leo assured him, his gaze sweeping over the determined faces of the Tarot. "Together."

Julia, holding the incriminating paper close to her chest, broke the uneasy silence. "We need to keep moving," she urged, her voice firm despite the underlying anxiety. "Staying here won't keep us safe."

Anastasia nodded in agreement, her eyes flickering towards the horizon where the black fog loomed ominously. "Leo, what's our plan?" she asked, her voice tinged with urgency.

Leo, his brow furrowed in thought, surveyed the group gathered around him. "We can't stay here," he declared finally, his voice steady yet tinged with concern. "But we need to move cautiously."

Sofia, her hand intertwined with Marko's, spoke up next. "Which direction should we go?" she asked, her voice betraying her uncertainty.

Vladimir, ever the strategist, stepped forward. "We should head north," he suggested, his eyes scanning the surroundings for any signs of danger. "There might be higher ground that could give us a better vantage point."

Pavel, Temperance personified, nodded in agreement. "Moving north sounds prudent," he added, his calm demeanor a source of reassurance amidst their mounting fears.

Isabella flexed her muscles nervously, her gaze fixed on the darkening sky. "We need to be ready for anything," she warned, her voice low but resolute.

Ethan, who had been silent until now, spoke up with a note of skepticism. "What if Viktor is still following us?" he asked, his eyes narrowing as he scanned the shadows beyond their campfire's glow.

Anna, the High Priestess, considered Ethan's question thoughtfully. "We need to assume he's still a threat," she replied quietly, her voice carrying a weight of caution.

Nikolai, emerging from his shelter with a yawn, rubbed his eyes sleepily. "What's going on?" he mumbled, his confusion palpable.

Katerina, always empathetic, approached Nikolai with a gentle smile. "We're planning our next move," she explained softly, her hand resting lightly on his arm.

Boris, the Hierophant, strummed his harmonica absently, the melancholic melody a stark contrast to the tension in the air. "Music soothes the soul," he remarked quietly, his eyes drifting towards the looming darkness.

Gregor, checking their dwindling supplies, spoke up with practical concern. "We need to ration our food," he advised, his voice edged with urgency. "Who knows how long we'll be on the move."

Mikhail, his optimism undimmed despite the dire circumstances, grinned broadly. "We'll find a way through this," he declared cheerfully, his confidence infectious.

Larisa, standing close to Daria, scanned the horizon with a furrowed brow. "What if there's nowhere safe to go?" she asked quietly, her voice laced with worry.

Daria, the World, gathered the younger ones closer to her, her protective instincts kicking into overdrive. "We'll figure it out," she assured them, her voice a soothing balm in the midst of uncertainty.

Andrei, the Fool, approached Leo with a sheepish grin. "Any chance we can just... run?" he suggested half-jokingly, though his nervousness was evident.

Leo chuckled softly, though there was little mirth in it. "We need a plan," he replied firmly, his gaze sweeping over the faces of the Tarot. "Running won't solve anything."

As they deliberated their next move, the black fog continued its inexorable march towards them, its presence a grim reminder of the dangers lurking in the forest.

Leo and the Tarot knew they couldn't afford to hesitate—their survival depended on their unity, their resourcefulness, and their unwavering determination to face whatever challenges lay ahead.
