First Kill

Mathias crawled back upon realizing that stumbled across a Bugbear.

Despite also being classified as a Goblin race, the Bugbear is far different that its small green cousins that are hunting with numbers. Bugbear is a big humanoid creature that is very aggressive during the night, their bodies are composed of dense muscles, and their skin is covered by brown furs.

The shape of their ears and possessing paws made them look like a mix of a bat and a bear.

Realizing that something just interrupted its feeding time, the Bugbear slowly stood up before turning around to face Mathias. Its huge body is towering, and its claws seem like they can rip apart metal like butter.

Out of the Supernatural creature that he can meet, Bugbear is one of the worst ones to encounter.

Fear slowly started to grip him again as he realized that he doesn't have any weapon to fight the Bugbear. Even if he did, he would still be scared to fight against such a ferocious creature but at least having a weapon gives him a chance.

"H-Help..."

"Help!!"

Mathias shouted, wanting to call out to Slade and Melissa so they can save him.

Grr...

While glaring at Mathias with its berserk eyes, the Bugbear started to pace left and right.

Seems like it's trying to size Mathias up, checking if he's any kind of threat at all or not. But with the meek aura coming out of him and added alongside his trembling body, the Bugbear that is wary upon Mathias's arrival becomes confident when it realized that he's nothing but prey.

Not one predator out there has the eyes Mathias is using right now, the gaze of fear.

Just as the Bugbear and Mathias gaze at each other with their respective feeling, the magical writing appears once again in front of his vision, it's the system giving him another quest that makes his throat dry.

[Urgent Quest!]

Wanting to finish the Daily Gratitude quest, the host has stumbled across a hostile Bugbear. Bearing killing intent towards the Original Werewolf is unkempt, the host is required to kill the Bugbear without any help to show the Alpha's dominance.

Quest Reward: 2,000 points

Failure Penalty: Painful Death

Reading the last part of the Urgent Quest, Mathias's eyes absolutely widened, 'Painful D-Death...?!'

Growl!

Mathias was snapped back to reality when the Bugbear roared confidently now, his pupil dilated seeing the Bugbear leaping right at him with full power. With its thick arms reaching forward, he knows that he would be crushed if he got caught by the Bugbear.

Out of the impulse of his survival instinct, he jumped to the side and dodge the Bugbear's leap.

'I-I dodged it! How did I do that?!'

Celebrating a little inside his head for being able to dodge the Bugbear, Mathias frowned again when the Bugbear stands back up before growling at him again. But this time, the Bugbear is grinding its teeth, wanting to tear Mathias apart.

When the Bugbear leaped at him once again, he suddenly remembered something.

'Should I try the skills I gain from the system? I don't know if it's going to work, but it's magic so it has to work', Mathias thought, trying to convince himself that the skills he learned from the system are not just a hallucination he made up for coping with the situation he's in.

Just as the Bugbear was about to reach him, Mathias tries out one of his skills.

Wanting to use the Heavy Slash skill that he learned and upgraded before, Mathias raised his hand and try to use the skill by screaming it inside his mind. Even though he wanted to try it out, seeing the Bugbear's ferocious expression scares him a little.

But wanting to show some follow-through for himself, he karate-chopped the Bug Bear.

Bam!

Mathias's hand landed right on the side of the Bugbear's face before it got sent crashing onto the ground, the Bugbear then rolled a couple of meters to the side before finally stopping. It was all because of one hit!

'I-I did that?!', Mathias exclaimed finding that it was surprising to see the Bugbear got sent away.

Despite knowing that he's a Werewolf and has even butchered an entire city of humans and a horde of Ghouls, he was not conscious back then thus he just doesn't know how powerful he has become. Right now is the first time he's consciously used his strength, and it's awesome!

Soon a smile appears on Mathias's face, he feels his hand by tries clenching it a couple of times.

Although it was subtle, the feeling is evident. Mathias can feel his hand harden for a brief second before he hits the side of the Bugbear's face, it was definitely due to the Heavy Slash skill that increases his striking strength.

Gazing back at the Bugbear, he finds it stands back up while holding its head.

Now it's clear that he's way stronger than this Bugbear, at least strength-wise he can severely hurt it with one hit. Feeling a boost of confidence, Mathias then decided to use yet another skill that he had learned from the system earlier.

Even though it's not great at the start, he started to get the hang of fighting against the Bugbear.

Aside from that he also realizes that this is also the perfect opportunity to gauge his power as a Werewolf, his eyes spark with excitement before his bearing suddenly changed drastically. It's vivid enough for the Bugbear to see.

"Origin Domination..."

From the Bugbear's perspective, Mathias's body suddenly started to emit a dark reddish aura.

Soon enough that dark reddish aura morphed his eyes into a vicious one that is completely different than what they were like before. In addition to that, the dark reddish aura also gathers on his back before turning into the shape of a wolf-head with a crescent moon symbol on its forehead.

Swoosh!

Upon being gazed at by the wolf-head, the Bugbear's face turns ashen out of fear.

For a Supernatural that is known to be aggressive and vicious, the expression that the Bugbear is wearing right now is completely contradicting its notorious fame. Its entire body was frozen by the deadly gaze of the wolf-head behind Mathias.

On the other hand, Mathias looks at the Bugbear in utter surprise.

'I don't feel any change after I chant Origin Domination, but it seems the skill works. It's said to weaken the target, but this is more than just weakening the target, it completely freezes the Bugbear in place', Mathias thought in marvel, he still can't believe that he was the one that actually did that.

But then he remembered that he needs to finish the Bugbear off, just like the Urgent Quest stated.

Even though he managed to completely immobilize the Bugbear that seems to be utterly terrified of him for some reason, Mathias doesn't know how to kill it. If there's a weapon then it's going to be easy, but he didn't have any.

Looking around the place, he can only see rocks and wooden sticks.

'What am I supposed to do? Should I strangle it? I probably can, right...?', Mathias thought before he slowly approaches the Bugbear, he was still hesitant to approach fearing that it would snap out of its daze and attack him.

Although his blood starts to run cold as he approaches, Mathias forced himself to move.

Knowing that if he failed then he would be dead then he can't stop right here. If the ability from the system can actually work, then there's no saying that the failure penalty wouldn't actually happen despite him failing to kill himself this morning.

Mathias doesn't want to try and fail the quest, it's simply risky.

Yes, he wanted to kill himself this morning but that has already changed. Now that he decided to try and survive in this world, he doesn't die just yet in honor of his sister and father that wanted him to do the same.

Standing in front of the Bugbear, Mathias reaches his frail hands toward the Bugbear's neck.

If he succeeds in killing the Bugbear then this would be his first kill ever in this new life and his previous life, and the thought of it is thrilling but it's way easier to just think of killing than actually do the killing.

Upon grabbing the Bugbear's neck, Mathias can feel its trembling body and the veins pulsating.

'I can do this, I can do this, I have to do this', Mathias thought as he slowly clenched the Bugbear's neck, he doesn't have any choice but to kill it with his bare hands. Doing anything else simply doesn't cross his mind, he has never done this before.

As Mathias slowly grip the Bugbear's neck, the uncomfortable feeling started to attack him.

Feeling the pulsating veins that are knocking against his fingers is a new sensation that he doesn't like. Mathias then realized that doing it slowly would be way harder, he then decided to give it his all in one go, 'Okay, I can do it...'

'One...'

'Two...'

'Three!'

Mathias squeezed the Bugbear's neck with both of his hands with all of his might.

Surprisingly enough the Bugbear's neck easily caved in as he puts more strength into his grip, the feeling of skin being pushed, and the fact that his fingers dig into the Bugbear's skin, Mathias can feel it all clearly.

Crack!

It finally ended when his grip reaches the vertebrae and snap it completely.

Although he has never broken someone's neck before either they are humans or Supernaturals, the loud cracking sound that surprised Mathias is a very clear indication that the Bugbear's neck is broken from that.

Upon realizing this, he pulled his hands away as the Bugbear's body falls to the ground lifeless.

Mathias saw the magic writings again which further confirm that he actually killed the Bugbear, his heart is beating like a running horse, it feels like it was about to burst from his chest due to the adrenaline coursing in his veins right now.

While looking at the dead Bugbear, he blinked a couple of times before a smile blooms on his face.

"I-I did it!!", Mathias punched the air excitedly.

Although he has never killed anything before, he had tried to kill Supernaturals many times but ultimately failed. Maybe his sister didn't mean to give him that look, but it's clear that she's a little bit disappointed in him for not being able to kill Supernaturals.

But now that changed, Mathias finally did it, and he feels like a completely new man.

Oblivious to Mathias that is celebrating his first kill ever showing that he had improved, Slade and Melissa are watching him from above before they both look at each other with shock clearly written on their faces.

Knowing that the night is dangerous, they are very alert.

Mathias's scream for help earlier was instantly caught and the two of them rushes over, but then they found Mathias fighting a Bugbear. What surprises them was the fact that he was able to immobilize the Bugbear.

None of them know what happens, they only saw the Bugbear looks at Mathias in fear.

It's weird for them since Mathias is not that menacing and all he did was look at the Bugbear, but that Bugbear somehow got frozen in place without being able to move at all. Something like this is impossible to be achieved by a green young man like Mathias.

"Am I seeing it right or I just saw him terrify a Bugbear that is known to be aggressive?"

"I- I don't know how he did that too..."

Both of them can only see Mathias jumping up and down while punching the air a couple of times excitedly, their gazes contained curiosity and confusion as it seems Mathias is not just a young man. There's something more to him, that's for certain.
