Chapter 302

Knock! Knock! Knock!

"Master, I have brought the man as requested." Edwin's voice called to Seon from outside the room's door as he waited permission to bring the pirate captain inside.

"You may bring him inside now." Guild Master Seon called out to Edwin through the door.

Seon sat in his chair while leaning back as far as he could in it. Balancing the chair on two legs. His feet propped up on his desk as he watched the door open. A man entered the room with a blank expression. The pirate captain that he had been asked to help locate quickly.

Living in Theapan as his main location for operations, The pirate was naturally a werewolf. He wore black and brown clothes. The brown was undertone on his clothes for his long sleeves with a black vest on top of them. A long piece of black cloth, similar to a cape, that was wrapped around his lower half. It was open just enough to see his brown and black pants and boots.

His hands wore brown gloves with black strapped around the wrist were cut so that his fingers were openly visible and not covered at all. The pirate had dark gray hair with black wolf ears on his head. A pair of green eyes scanned Ashley carefully as he stepped into the room.

The pirate raised his hand to Ashley with a still expression, he lacked the interest in pretending to smile politely, simply introducing himself, "I am Captain Cory."

"Ashley." The vampire shook the pirate's hand while giving the man a careful look over from head to toe.

Captain Cory sat down on the guild master's sofa. He did not seem interested in standing around like Ashley. There was a comfortable place to relax while they spoke and he was going to take advantage of that chance. As a pirate he had no interest in playing at being respectful to them. They knew his identity so he had no reason to put on a facade in front of Ashley.

"I heard the new king is looking for safe passage into Drethia." Captain Cory started the conversation with an amused tone.

Ashley affirmed his words, "Yes."

"Well," Captain Cory slightly laughed at it, "I would suggest telling his majesty to find a kinder way to kill himself."

"How dare you-?!" Ashley wanted to summon his weapon and cut the pirate down instantly at those words. How dare he be so rude?

"Tsk." Captain Cory felt like the king was not taking the risks seriously by requesting his aid in sneaking into Drethia Kingdom, "I am only warning you for his sake. I personally do not care if he dies out there. In the end I will still be paid for my job."

Ashley felt his own hand twitch, the urge to summon his blood scythe boiling within him, as he tried to remain calm because he knew his master wanted help from the pirate, "You only get paid if you do your job til the end as promised."

Pirates were known to be greedy and Ashley did not trust Captain Cory in the slightest. They were hungry for gains. It was dangerous to trust them for any reason. In the end if someone came to them with a better offer it was highly likely they would betray you for the better benefits. Loyalty was not something pirates were known for.

Captain Cory did not care about King Vorbuk's life. That was because pirates did not follow the law of any king. They would make the area they settled in under their own control. Believing only in themselves and their profits, pirates followed no one. It was not easy to get them to make a deal with the king in order for safe passage into Drethia Kingdom.

It was even difficult to locate a pirate's whereabouts because they hid their territory from the eyes of others. Moving in ways that kept them out of sight from the law. Sometimes that meant living in a secluded area while other times they would hide among the nobles with a normal identity that allowed them to blend in to society. Cory was only able to be tracked down because Guild Master Seon had connections to all sorts of people as a successful guild master.

"Are you worried I will abandon the job half way through?" Captain Cory could see right through Ashley's worry as he watched the vampire, "I have more honor to my name then you give me credit for."

"Alright, I think that is enough debate over the matter. The one who has issued the request is the king, after all." Seon's bunny ears twitched as he listened to the two of them bicker back and forth in front of him. He was not commissioned to deal with their drama. It was only a task to help Vorbuk hired a pirate for his travels. That had been taken care of but now he had to listen to Ashley argue with the man in his room.

Maybe I should have asked for more in this situation? Seon regretted not asking for more profit if he had to listen to them much longer.

Ashley went silent as he knew that his opinion had no weight in this situation. He was simply here to meet the pirate in his master's place. Turning his gaze away from the pirate and to Seon he diverted his attention to other matters.

"Master wishes to leave as soon as possible. Tomorrow." Ashley stated the plan to leave that Vorbuk wanted.

Captain Cory felt he heard something strange from the vampire's way of speaking. Why does the vampire call the king by master? He was unaware that the king had bound Ashley with a servant's mark.

Seon seemed to falter a bit when he heard what Ashley said before responding, "Yes, he mentioned wanting to leave quickly."

"Have you heard anything on the Drethia King or Grand Duke Heket yet?" Ashley asked the guild master. It felt as if he was pushing Seon to give him something useful during their travel.

Seon's gaze turned cold as he disliked how the vampire was acting towards him. It felt disrespectful to him. Releasing a sigh, the guild master tried to think of something. There was no news about the Drethia king that he could find. It was as if things about the king were dangerously quiet.

"I have not heard anything about the king. He is quiet as of late and that is what makes me worried." Seon felt it was strange to hear nothing about the king of Drethia. He was someone that was known for cruelty. To have things surrounding the king go quiet made him worry what the man was plotting behind closed doors.

The three of them sat in silence as they all could feel it. It was a feeling that something was wrong with Drethia. Each of them knew how dangerous that place was and how heavy the risks were to confront the king.

Ashley could only hope that things were going more smoothly for Daryl and Bredret on the battlefield. An exhausted sigh escaped him as he hoped for the best. He had to make sure his master made it back safely in the future to see his kingdom's victory. Soon his master could truly take on the title of a emperor. The thought of it made him full of excitement.
