The Wings of Thunder

Tengu and I were training in an open field. We were using hand to hand combat and I was holding my own, but she was vastly superior than me at it as she's had more training in martial arts. She staggered me with multiple attacks then knocked me into the air. She grabbed my ankle and swung me around then tossed me away.

I grunted and slowly stood up. "Fuck...you're stronger than your build let's on." I said.

"Yeah and you suck at unarmed combat." Tengu smiled and placed a hand on her hip. She walked to me and dusted me off.

"I was trained to wield bladed weapons so our mentors differentiate heavily." I said then watched her dust my clothes off.

She looked at me and moved my hair from my eyes then stepped back. She smiled at me and opened her fan. "You can use a weapon if you'd like now."

I nodded and summoned my staff and turned it into a katana. I got in my stance. "This is my profession so I have the upper hand in this."

"We'll see." Tengu said.

I ran to her and used a burst of speed to appear behind her and twirled my katana. Ten hidden slashes hit Tengu and she groaned slightly then fell on one knee. I turned around and noticed her body turn into a flock of ravens and the ravens flew around me. I swatted them away and her body reformed in front of me.

"What the heck was that?" I asked.

"It was a teleportation technique. I call it Bird Flock Technique. Though it isn't used to actually teleport, it can be used to avoid attacks if I need to do so." Tengu smiled. "Now come at me again!"

The more Tengu showed off her skills, the more I began to be amazed by her. I was glad Aermyth told me to give her a chance because I would've missed everything she had to show me. She looked at me and smiled then stomped quickly with both feet. I looked at her then dashed towards her.

"Wind!" She spun around and a whirlwind was summoned around her body blowing me away.

I groaned lightly and landed on my feet, sliding backwards a bit. I looked back up at Tengu and smirked then my eyes shined. She looked at me and smirked as well. I dashed to her and used a burst of speed to move around her quickly. She used her 360 degree vision to track me. I kept moving around quickly around her then vanished and she looked around then I slashed down with my great sword and cut the whirlwind in half. She looked surprised and dodged my attack then slid backwards.

I landed on the ground and she summoned her sniper and took aim at me. I turned my sword back into a staff and I summoned four lightning spears behind me and took aim at her. She lowered her sniper and smiled at me. I made my spears disappear and smiled back at her.

"You're good..." Tengu said and smiled.

"You're not too bad yourself." I said then made my staff disappear and walked to her.

"Tengu!" A woman called out and ran towards us.

Tengu and I looked at her and noticed the distressed face of the woman. Tengu hurried over to her and I followed right behind her, wanting to know what's going on as well.

"The Fell Beasts! They outside the village and nearing our location! We don't know- AHH! One is already here!" She screamed and pointed at Aermyth. Tengu and I looked at Aermyth then I looked at the woman.

"Whoa whoa! Aermyth is an ally not an enemy. I'm for certain that the beasts had to have followed Aermyth's energy since she is a Goddess Level Fell Beast. Tengu we have to protect the village!" I said.

Tengu nodded and looked back at the woman. "Go somewhere safe and warn the others! Tell them to stay inside until we have returned."

The woman nodded and squawked then flew off. Tengu manifested her wings on her back and I hurried over to Aermyth then got on her back. We both flew off towards the Fell Beasts that were rampaging outside of the village. Aermyth spotted them with ease and landed on the ground then roared loudly. I got off her back and my double tomoe appeared in my eyes. I summoned my staff and turned it into a katana then got in my stance. Tengu landed beside me and opened her fan.

"You aren't using your sniper?" I asked.

"There isn't really much of a reason to use it out in the open. Not many places to hide since we are in a field area and not in the forest. I will be taking the front lines with you." Tengu said then got in her stance. Her battlesuit named the Typhoon Empress appeared on her body. She summoned her mask and put it on then her aura surged powerfully.

I don't know what it was, but our energies seemed to synchronize with one another and it felt amazing. We looked at each other then dashed right into action. She swiped her fan and a tornado was summoned over to the beasts. The Fell Beasts were picked up by the tornado then destroyed. I sliced my way through the beasts with easy using my bursts of speed and iaido.

"Hisumi!" Tengu called out then stomped her foot down and a powerful burst of wind knocked a giant Fell Beast into the air.

I looked at Tengu then the beast in the air then teleported towards the beast then slashed quickly all around the beast then slashed downwards and the beast dispersed into energy particles. I blew my whistle and Aermyth swooped down and caught me on her back.

"Take them down!" I commanded.

Aermyth roared and released a powerful energy beam from her mouth, hitting the Fell Beasts and killing them. Aermyth landed on the ground and spread her wings then summoned spears of ice then shot them at the Fell Beasts. The beasts were impaled by the spears and dispersed into energy particles. I got off Aermyth's back and looked around.

"That seems like all of them." Tengu said.

"Hold on...I am sensing one more." I said.

We both looked around and sensed a powerful energy behind us then looked back. Tengu's eyes widened and she took a step backwards. It was a male who had white skin with long black hair, carrying two katanas and his eyes shined orange. I had a flashback to when I saw someone like this for the first time.

"A Fell Zombie." I said.

"It's my friend Drako..." Tengu said.

I looked at him and readied my blade. "He's gone now, Tengu. There isn't anything we can do about him other than put him to rest indefinitely."

Tengu looked at me then back at Drako and closed her eyes. She nodded and got in her stance. "Right...Let's put him to rest."

Drako looked at us then dashed to us. We dashed towards him and I slashed, but he blocked it. I jumped backwards and charged up for a powerful attack then dashed forward and slashed. I managed to break his guard and Tengu punched his stomach, but he didn't seem to react much to it. She glared and stomped her foot down then sent him flying in the air. I teleported above him and slashed down, knocking him back down to the ground. Tengu kicked him away and I landed beside Tengu. She looked upset and looked at me.

"Tengu, I understand how you feel at this very moment. You are fighting a friend that you don't want to fight, but he is gone now. We have to do this." I said then took her hand and she looked at our hands then back at me. "Let's put him to rest. Together."

She nodded then we looked at Drako who stood up and he dashed to us. Our energies combined and formed a spirit. The spirit summoned a gunblade then took aim at Drako. The spirit pulled the trigger and a powerful beam of lightning struck Drako and an explosion happened. The smoke cleared and Drako fell to his knees and slowly turned into energy particles. Tengu looked sad, but understood why she had to do what she did.

"Let's go report back to the village." I said.

She nodded and we made our way back to the village. Once we made it, the people of the village cheered and celebrated. Snowflake and Ares hurried over to us and they hugged us. I grunted at how tight Snowflake's hugs were.

"Can't...breathe..." I struggled to say then Snowflake let go of me and smiled.

"We were wrong to judge you based on what you were. You may be an Overlord, but you are the first Overlord to have good intentions. Whatever you need, I can do my best to get it for you." Snowflake smiled at me.

"I could use a home and some clothes." I said.

"She can stay with us." Ares said then smiled at Snowflake. "Now her intentions are 100% clear, we have nothing to worry about."

Snowflake nodded and was pleased with the idea. We all went to their home and they showed me my room. Snowflake had brought me a few clothes that she couldn't fit anymore and let me have them. They even let Aermyth to stay in their farm. I sat on the bed and noticed Tengu entered the room and sat beside me.

"Thank you." Tengu smiled a bit.

"For what? We both did the same job." I smiled at her and looked at her.

"I know, but you just...made me realize I can do so much more now. I feel like an actual hero instead of being viewed as the villain. You opened my eyes and helped me see my true self. I had the intentions of saving Silent Fox from her evil ways, but seeing those monsters nearing our villain changed that. She now sets out on killing us. I don't want anything to do with her." Tengu said.

I looked at her and smiled then rubbed her head and she smiled. "I am glad to help. I am also thankful that you helped me escape the cold reality of war. I like being here...I like everyone here because they are incredibly nice. I want to preserve this place forever." I smiled and laid my head on her shoulder.

"I do too.." She smiled and closed her eyes. "Let's protect this place together."

"Okay. We will protect this village together." I closed my eyes and sighed contently.
