REGENERATION

SQUEEE!! SQUEEE!! SQUEEE!! SQUEEE!

The defeated Sonic Ware Bat's comrades flew in the sky, their large eyes darting to the ground as they searched for their comrade who had called to them.

Ossa, sensing their presence, looked to the night sky, where four ware bats circled, their eyes seemingly locked on him.

"There are more of them," he exclaimed, as he hadn't expected to face more than one. Catching the first one off guard was one thing, but dealing with four at once posed a significant challenge.

[I did tell you they hunt in groups.]

"Yeah, you did. Might have slipped..."

SSSS!!!! QUEEEEE!!!! BOOM!!

Noticing their deceased comrade beside the skeleton, they jointly unleashed a sonic blast.

The sonic attack hit Ossa, shattering his bony frame into smithereens.

The sonic blast stirred up dust, its waves pushing the carcass of the dead bat a few meters from the pieces that once formed Ossa.

After the dust settled, the ware bats observed that the peculiar skeleton beside their comrade's body had been obliterated.

At ease, they gently swooped down, landing beside their deceased comrade.

Squee! Squee! Squee! Squee! Squee! Squee!

The ware bats mourned for their comrade as they nudged him with their noses, checking to see if he was truly dead.

They took turns circling and nudging their deceased comrade, performing a kind of funeral rite.

As they did this, Ossa's broken body slowly crawled toward itself, fragments attaching to fragments to reform his skull, sternum, and other parts that had been blown to smithereens.

The more intact parts, like his limbs, moved towards the main body that was materializing. Slowly, limbs joined joints, finally completing his skeletal body.

The soul flame that made up his eyes lit up as he gained consciousness.

"Did I just die?" Ossa said as he frantically checked his body.

From his point of view, he blacked out after hearing an annoying sound.

[ No ]

" No?!, What do you mean no... " He exclaimed doubtful of the system's word, as he had never blacked out before. He added,

" I just blacked out and for some reason, I feel I have lost a lot of energy "

[ I guess from your perspective you died but you cannot truly die as you are immortal ]

[ And for you losing energy, that's just the large amount of mana that was used to regenerate your body. Usually, it is supposed to be your master's mana or life force, but as you are now a mystic basic skeleton, it will be your own mana.]

" Really!!!... Good thing I got that skill before meeting the Sonic bats ... Where are those bastards " He said as he looked around, his eyes screaming with frustration.

A few meters away from him, he spotted the sonic bats, performing a weird ritual for their dead comrade.

"There they are," Ossa exclaimed internally, eager to pay them back. However, he did not attack immediately, recalling his momentary death.

" How do I approach this... Hmm " He pondered on what to do as going in without a plan would be suicide.

" First I need to find my pitchfork," He thought internally as he checked his vicinity, the pitchfork nowhere to be found.

" Where is it " He grumbled.

[ You threw it too far ]

[ You will need another weapon ]

"OK, can you help me find one "

[ Searching for weapons ]

[ No weapons found ]

" Anything will do, like the pitchfork or rake " He suggested.

[ Searching vicinity for anything that can serve as a weapon ]

[ Tools found ]

[ Best tools to serve as weapons ]

[ Wood axe and scythe ]

[ Searching for the nearest wood axe or scythe ]

[ Wood axe found, ten metres from host ]

"Ten meters?!... In which direction?" Ossa inquired, as the system did not provide him with a direction, and he couldn't see the green glow.

[ Right in front of host ]

"In front... But that's where the ware bats are... Isn't there another nearby?" he said, staring at the ware bats who were still performing their strange ritual, a green glow emanating from a spot beside them.

[ No, the rest are completely rusted and useless ]

" Sure " He pressed on, as he needed the weapon to kill the creatures not kill the creatures to gain the weapon.

[...]

Annoyed Mors, ignored him.

" Well be like that, I will find a way, " He said as he slowly backed away as he did not want to draw attention to himself.

" I remember when I served master, I had a shield and a long sword. " He thought as he believed to deflect the sonic blast he would need something to defend himself with.

Annoyed by the system's uselessness he decided to find something useful. He checked his vicinity finding nothing but the corpse of a giant wasp.

"Its exoskeleton was tough, it could work, " He thought as he got closer to it.

The corpse was that of the wasp he had failed to extract its core.

He straightened his fingers and stabbed at the dead wasp's abdomen, his bony fingers breaking on impact.

" This is hard, they might leave before I finish here, " He thought to himself as he observed his broken fingers attaching, becoming good as new.

[ Sigh ]

[ The exoskeleton of the abdomen overlaps. You can peel it off from that point ]

" Yeah, you're right..." He said as he noticed the overlapping exoskeleton that the system spoke about.

" If you try, you can be helpful " He added, trying to tease the system.

[ ... ]

" Well, whatever, ignore me " He quickly got to work as he straightened his fingers and slowly inserted them into the gap created by the overlapping exoskeleton segment.

With all his strength he ripped the exoskeleton off.

" This should be useful," He said as he admired the foot-and-a-half-long segment. It was about a foot wide making it the perfect shield, except it had no handle.

" I can manage, " He thought as he looked in the direction of the bats.

" Huh, where are they " He exclaimed as he noticed that the four bats were no longer there, the only thing left was their dead comrade's body.

SSSS!!

Ossa quickly dodged as he heard the familiar sound.

QUEEE!!! BOOM!!!.

A small crater was formed where he had just stood.

" Oh, I thought you had left... If you are still here let's play "
