Ramen and Questions

"A table for three please."

Nezu, Aizawa, and Rey were led to their seats. Rey sat, and Nezu and Aizawa sat down across from him. Rey took off his mask and stuffed it into his pocket. He saw that the two adults were looking at the menu, so he picked up the one in front of him and took a look.

"What would you like to have today, sir?" The waiter asked the trio.

"I'll have the tonkotsu ramen!" Nezu ordered first.

"The miso ramen." Aizawa's dish.

"The shoyu ramen please." Rey said.

"Your orders will be ready shortly."

Rey adjusted his chopsticks and sat up straighter. "If you have any questions, please ask them now."

Nezu cleared his throat. "Thank you, Rey. If my questions make you uncomfortable, you do not have to answer. I won't push you."

Rey nodded once to show his understanding.

"How old are you, Rey?"

"15."

"What were you doing when the villains attacked?"

"I was going out for stroll before buying my lunch at the convenience store."

"It is against the law to use your Quirk in public without a hero license. Why did you still choose to stop the villains?"

Rey looked expressionlessly at Nezu. "Are you going to arrest me?"

Nezu shook his head. "If we were trying to arrest you, we wouldn't be sitting here waiting for our ramen, right?"

Rey nodded in agreement. "I stopped the villains because there were no heroes around. If there were, I wouldn't have exposed myself. I made the decision to help because I didn't want to let someone die knowing that I had the power to protect them."

"You would make a great hero, Rey."

Rey smiled politely at Nezu's compliment. Aizawa finally spoke up. "What's your Quirk, Rey?"

Rey's eyes showed no ripple of emotion as the adults waited for the boy to answer. Aizawa's mouth drew into a straight line. The boy sitting in front of him was too on guard for a child his age.

Rey noticed Aizawa's expression, but he didn't say anything. Rey opened his mouth. "Why should I tell you what my Quirk is?"

Aizawa frowned. "You could consider it as payment for Nezu buying you lunch."

"Aizawa, don't make it sound like that. I said so in the beginning that Rey didn't have to answer if he didn't want to."

Rey looked at the two and spoke. "No, Mr. Aizawa is right. I'll tell you what my Quirk does. My Quirk is called Light Angel. I can manipulate light, and I can create any object from the light to use for combat. As you saw, I can also heal wounds. That's basically it."

"That's a very strong Quirk, Rey! You should be proud. I think your parents would definitely be proud to have a son like you!" Nezu praised the boy.

Rey smiled lightly. "I don't have parents."

Both Nezu and Aizawa frowned and exchanged glances.

"I'm sorry, Rey. I shouldn't have something like that." Nezu immediately apologized.

"Your ramen is here!" The waiter placed the three bowl of noodles on the table, successfully breaking the tense atmosphere from the conversation.

"Rey. This bowl is yours." Aizawa picked up the bowl in front of him and passed it over to Rey. Rey reached over and took the bowl. "Thank you."

"Let's eat! We don't want to let the ramen get cold." Nezu exclaimed.

The three ate their ramen, and Nezu continued to make small talk with Rey. Aizawa ate quietly, observing the boy as he ate.

After Nezu paid for their lunch, the two UA staff members were ready to part ways with the boy.

"Thank you for the meal, Mr. Nezu. The ramen was very good." Rey said, bowing slightly.

"Of course! It was my pleasure meeting such a kind boy like you, Rey. May I have your phone number so that I can contact you in the future?"

"My phone number? Sure, I guess."

Rey handed his phone to Nezu. The principal took the phone and added both Aizawa's and his contact information into the boy's phone.

"Here you go!" Nezu gave back the phone, and Rey pocketed it. Rey turned to leave, but Nezu called him back.

"Rey, have you considered coming to study at UA?" Nezu suddenly asked.

"Study at UA?" Rey echoed.

"Yes, UA will be starting their first semester soon, and you're old enough to be a first year. So, what do you say?" Nezu offered again.

Rey smiled lightly. "So this is what you've been waiting for, Mr. Nezu."

Nezu nodded. "Of course! As the principal of UA, how could I let such a talent slip through the cracks?"

Rey gave the offer some thought. "It's an honor to have the principal of UA personally invite me to the number 1 hero academy in Japan. But, I do have some responsibilities that I also need to take care of, so I can't give you a definite answer right now. May I have some time to think about it?"

"Of course! When you have your answer, you can just contact me with the phone number I gave you." Nezu said.

"I will." Rey promised. "Have a good rest of the day, Mr. Nezu, Mr. Aizawa."

Rey bowed to the two and put his mask back on.

The two watched the white-haired boy leave.

"He's an interesting one. Most people would have agreed to your offer at once." Aizawa commented.

Nezu nodded. "Mhm. He's different from most people. That's why I made him the offer. But I'll need your help to keep an eye on him. Something tells me he will make this year very interesting."
