Good Night

It was 11 pm. I laid on my bed, getting ready to go to sleep. I held my phone in one hand, and I stared at Nezu's number. I don't know why I agreed to go to lunch with the duo. It brought a lot of unneeded attention to myself, and I didn't exactly enjoy the attention. I turned off my phone and put it on my desk.

I sighed, and I turned my attention to the ceiling. Maybe I wanted a change in my life. Maybe I was ready to move on. Maybe I no longer wanted to pass everyday without a purpose.

I took off my pair of black, fingerless gloves and put them beside me. I examined the bandages hidden underneath the gloves. Was I ready for the leap I was going to take? Would she approve? Of course, she would. It was always her dream. Attending UA and becoming a hero.

But it isn't my dream. I learned a long time ago that dreams brought nothing good. It only brought pain. It gives you the false sense of hope and the moment you seem to be so close in reaching it, it disappears, leaving you in darkness.

I shook my head. No, I'm not going to go back there. I've defeated the demons of my past two years ago. They are locked away, imprisoned in chains. I'm no longer who I am in the past. I'm Rey Shadow now.

And perhaps Rey Shadow had the ability to dream. Perhaps Rey Shadow could become a hero.

I promised her that I would live a good life. This leap of faith, I'm going to take it. I will carry her dream and mine and become a hero.

I rolled over and took my phone. I found Nezu's number and started typing.

Rey: Hello, Mr. Nezu. I'm sorry for texting you so late. But I've made my decision. I would be honored to study at UA. Thank you for giving me this chance. If there is anything you need, please let me know.

My finger hovered over the send button. This is it. I exhaled quietly, and I tapped the send button. After seeing that the message was delivered, I turned off my phone and relaxed on my bed. A few moments later, my phone buzzed. Nezu had replied.

Nezu: No worries at all, Rey! I'm delighted to hear that you are willing to come to UA to study. I promise that you will definitely like it there.

Nezu: May I ask if you are free tomorrow at 9 am?

Rey: Yes, I am free.

Nezu: Wonderful! Could you drop by UA tomorrow at 9 then? There's some procedural work that I need to file out for you, and it will be a great chance to get to know the UA staff, too. What do you say?

Rey: Okay, I'll be there.

Nezu: Get some rest, okay? It's almost 12 am. You'll have a busy day ahead of you tomorrow.

Rey: I will. Good night, Mr. Nezu.

Nezu: Good night, Rey.

I let out the breath I was holding. Tomorrow... A day, just like any other, but yet so different. Good night, Rey, and wake up to a better future.
