Chapter 2: Adventurer’s Guild

"I'm Natsuki Subaru! And I ask for your name!"

"E-Eh? I-I'm…" She began to make her voice quieter. "…Yunyun…"

"Ah Yunyun, okay, okay. And once again, thanks for helping me out there Yunyun!"

"U-Um! It was no problem at all!"

She was still turning red and acting shy so Subaru decided he wouldn't pester anything else from her. Then he remembered his original goal of trying to find the adventure's guild.

"Um Yunyun…Do you happen to know where I can sign up for the adventure's guild?"

"The adventure's guild? I was just heading there so I can battle with my rival once again! So…So I can take you there if you'd like me to!"

"Thanks! I'll let you lead the way."

Yunyun walked in front of Subaru and she led him throughout the town until they reached a building that gave of the feeling of being an adventurer's guild. They walked inside and there were a mass variety of different people, mages, warriors, thieves, brawlers, crusaders and waitresses…

'I guess this also is a bar for the adventurer's…I wonder what the legal drinking age here is?' "So where do I go to sign up?"

"Ah, it's over there. This is where we part ways I guess, I have to look for my rival!"

Yunyun ran off to a loli looking girl in red clothes and a witch esc hat.

'Hm, quite eccentric for a kid…Anyway guess I should sign up now.'

He walked over to the sign up area and was greeted by a blonde girl with an exceptionally large chest.

"Hello. What can I do for you today?"

"I'd like to become an adventurer."

"In that case, you'll need to first pay the resignation fee."

"…..Eh?"

Subaru was instantly realized how he still had no money to his name…Expect this time he didn't even have any money on him, compared to when he was in Japan with his measly ¥670! He was defeated before he could even get started and so he sat at one of the tables pondering what he could do next.

'I wonder if anyone else would be willing to give me the cash…Then again of this is like any other rpg I'd probably have to battle or something in order to get it…Then again, I was summoned here by a goddess so maybe I have some godly stats that'll let me win any battle I want! Okay! Here I go!'

He walked over to a group of adventurers that had a warrior in their party and took a seat next to them. They all looked at him strangely and he looked at them with total confidence.

"I ask for a battle! And if I win you have to give me the money needed to join the adventurer's guild!"

"….Huh? In that case what would I get if I won?"

"Umm…" He quickly searched his pockets to see if he had anything of value brought with him. He felt a budge in his pocket and took it out, it was his flip phone. "This is a one of a kind time freezing device! You use it to keep a moment in time with you forever! How does that sound?"

"I mean I'm winning anyway so I guess it wouldn't hurt to have a novelty item on hand with me."

"Okay where are we fighting?"

"Follow me."

He was taken to a side path and the warrior took out his sword. Subaru then remembered how he didn't actually have a weapon on him and quickly tried to make rules before the match started.

"Wait! Wait! Can we make some rules first?"

"Depending."

"I know, let's use wooden swords so we don't accidentally kill each other! Yeah that's a good idea."

"Whatever…"

The warrior switched his sword out for a wooden one and gave another to Subaru. They both entered fighting positions and the match started on the count of three.

"One. Two. Three!"

They charged at each other but Subaru was instantly hit in the chest and started being hit back and forth. The rest of the warriors party was making faces of pity for Subaru and after a little longer he was beaten to hell.

"I guess it's my win…Listen if you ever want to fight me again you can…And to make it a fair fight I'll even tell you my weakness. I can't stand being wet, so if you do that maybe you'll have a chance of winning, but I'll be taking this "flip phone."

They left Subaru lying in the dirt and as they were leaving he stood back up.

'Guess I don't have special powers after all…'

He walked away completely defeated and sighed.

'Guess I'll to find another way to pay for the resignation fee…Wait!' "Hey! What if I were to pay you back?"

"Hm?"

"I could take on some jobs and pay you back as soon as I can! So please just lend me some cash so I join the guild!"

The party members looked at each other and walked over to Subaru. The warrior took his hand and put a couple coins in his hand.

"I guess it wasn't a fair fight to begin with, we're all about level 42 so I already had a bigger advantage then you."

"Huh? So you'll lend me the money?"

"Yeah, but I expect a rematch once you reach our level! I'm Rudy by the way! Come see us after you're registered! Maybe you'll join our party some time in the future."

"Thanks! And I'm Natsuki Subaru!"

Rudy left waving and Subaru managed to get the money required to join the adventurer's guild! Subaru made his way back to the sign up area and gave the woman the money required to join.

"Allow me to formally explain. Adventurer's each have their own occupations. This is your resignation card. It keeps track of how many monsters you've vanquished. As your level increases, you'll earn points that you can use to learn skills, so please work hard to raise your level. Now, please hold your hand over this crystal."

Subaru put his hand over the crystal and it lit up with a bright blue. It started to make some strange sounds and moved around. Soon after a beam of light came from the bottom and started to burn something into the card beneath it.

"With this, you will be able to learn your current status. So please choose your desired occupation based on your stats."

The card finished burning and the woman took the card and looked it over.

"Overall you're stats are average…Huh?"

While looking it over she made a confused face and looked up at Subaru.

"This is quite strange, I've never seen anything like it."

"What's wrong?"

She turned the card towards him and under the skills area there was a space colored in with a deep purple and the text on it was too hard to make out.

"Normally skills are just written onto the cards but your skill has something strange that has never been heard of before. Maybe you could try removing it."

'Wait…Purple? It's like the card I saw at Aqua's place…Maybe this is what I accidentally chose?'

"Sir? Would you like me to try and remove it?"

"Ah, uh no. I'd like to keep it if possible."

"It's you're choice and you can always overwrite it in the future."

Subaru took his card and walked over to Rudy's party. Rudy noticed him and waved him over where Subaru took a seat at the table.

"So let's hear you're stats!"

Rudy hit Subaru on the back and he then explained what happened with his card specifically.

"Yeah, none of us have ever heard of something like that happening…Maybe it's super special or something and you just don't know it yet…Like maybe a skill only you can use. Of course if you had a skill like that maybe you could have beaten me before!"

Subaru enjoyed the time he spent with his new friends and when night came he stayed with them for the night. He sat on the bed and started thinking to himself.

'So this is my new life…It's turning out better and worse out then I hoped…But I may still have an ultra special power after all! I hope I find out what it is soon…Now that I think about it, will I ever see Yunyun again? She did help me out so I'd like to do something for her…Maybe I'll go looking for her tomorrow…'

He crawled under the sheets and started going to sleep. The next day he would search for Yunyun and be greeted by quite the surprise…
