1 Chapter 1: The Goddess’s Chamber

"Natsuki Subaru…Welcome to the Great Beyond. I'm sorry to tell you that you've passed on. It was a short life, but it's over now. I am the goddess, Aqua."

He was opening his eyes as he heard a female voice say those words. He looked around the room but then locked eyes with the beautiful girl sitting in front of him. She had long ocean colored hair matched with light purple clothing to go alongside it.

'Wait what happened…? I was walking home when…Wait…What happened? Why can't I remember? And why is this girl telling me I've passed on?'

Subaru tried thinking about what happened before he came to whatever this place was and after using a little brain power he was able to remember.

'This is really gonna be a problem…'

He had very little money to his name and was trying to buy some snacks and since he didn't have a job this was all the money he had. It was all in a wallet that fit inside his smallest pocket, leaving a total of 670¥ to his name.

'I wanted to buy the latest issue but doesn't seem to be in my budget…That's that then.'

He left the store after buying two bags of chips and a bottle of juice. He started down the route that led to his house and on the way he heard faint yelling from an alleyway. He ran down the alley to see if someone was in trouble and found a woman being dragged by a group of men.

"Hey! Let her-!"

He felt something sharp stab in the back and fell forwards as a pool of blood began to form beneath him. The woman walked alongside the group of men and started searching his body while he was breathing his final breaths.

"Really? This kid has nothing on him."

"Guess this was a waste then…I guess we should find someone else then."

The people walked away leaving him to drown in his own blood and everything slowly became hazy.

'Wait…Wait! This can't be happening! This is really, really bad!'

He could barely move and in the midst of his panic he slowly calmed down as more blood pooled out of him. This was how Natsuki Subaru had died.

'That's right! I was killed after I was about to help someone…'

He was completely and strangely calm. Even after remembering how he had died he didn't have the littlest panic in him. He looked at Aqua again who had began walking towards him.

"You have two options to choose from. Option one: be reborn as a human, starting a completely new life. And option two: live like an old geezer in a heavenly place."

'These are my only options?! Where's the reincarnation choice where I get to become a hero and save the world?'

"However, heaven isn't as great as all you mortals make it out to be. You pretty much just sit around with other spirits making small talk for the rest of eternity."

"Eh? That doesn't sound too great…"

"Exactly! So you know what I've got a special offer for you! You like video games, right?"

"Y-Yeah."

Aqua then explained how there was another world in peril and was because of the Demon King who lived there. A fantasy setting being taken over by the Demon King's ranks and is threatening the world.

"Most people from that word don't want to be reincarnated back into that world since they don't want to go through all that suffering again. That means fewer and fewer babies are being born there and eventually the world will be ruined! So we thought…Why not send someone who died from some other world off to this threatened one? You would also be able to bring any one thing you want. Some people choose a legendary weapon, others an incredible talent or a powerful special ability…So how about it?"

It wasn't actually that bad of an offer, he would be able to keep all of his memories and get an amazing skill letting him live out his life as a hero as he originally wanted to.

"Just going to put this out here real quick…Will I be able to speak this language and understand it?"

"No worries there. Through the kind support of us deities, the language will be loaded into your brain when you go over, allowing you to

learn it instantaneously. You'll be able to read it, too, of course. There's a slim chance that it would result in an overload that makes you go poof,

if you're not lucky. So! All that's left is to pick your awesome ability or gear."

'Did she just say "go poof?"'

"So go ahead and look at the choices and pick the one that'll suit you best. I'll give you a power that's second to none!"

Subaru started to look through the papers which had all of the abilities and items on them. He searched through them thoroughly to try and find the one that suit him best. All of the papers were white but a dark purple one appeared on the side of them all. He looked up to see if Aqua reacted but she was still waiting for him to choose while eating the same brand chips that he had bought before he was killed.

He reached over to the paper to see what it was but it disappeared and he felt like he was having a heart attack. He could swear that there was a hand squeezing the blood out of his heart and into the rest of his body. He grabbed his chest but soon after the pain went away and he no longer felt any pain at all.

"It seems you've selected an ability, now go and save the world from the dreaded Demon King!"

A blue light surrounded him and he started to float upwards.

"W-Wait! I didn't pick anything yet!"

"It shows that you did, I'm sure it'll be fine!"

"But I don't know what I picked!"

He opened his eyes to be greeted with a usual fantasy town. Beast people, adventurers, merchants, and other species.

"I really am in a fantasy world! I can't believe it!"

People who were waking by looked at him as he yelled out and was completely unaffected by the stares. He started walking around town and had his mouth open the entire time, he was amazed at everything around him.

"Wait a second. These clothes aren't suited for adventuring…Shouldn't I have gotten some fantasy esc clothing or something? I'm in an old tracksuit and nothing else to my name…I don't even know the ability I chose."

He was in what appeared to be the shopping district and took a seat on nearby stairs as he tried to gather all of his thoughts.

"Alright, if this is like any other rpg or anime that means there should be an adventurer's guild somewhere. If I find that I should be able to know what my ability is."

He stood back up and continued walking down the crowded streets but soon it got too crowded to the point he couldn't move forwards. He went to a back alley and continued on his way to try and find the adventurer's guild but was soon greeted by a group of thugs.

'I'm getting some serious deja vu right now…'

He was kicked in the stomach and knocked down and was being kicked all around him. He was in serious pain but soon he felt insane heat come from over him and the gang ran away while one of their buddies heads were on fire. Subaru turned his head the other way to see a girl with braided brown hair that hung over her shoulders, had red eyes and quite the large chest to go alongside were her cute looks.

"U-Um…Um! A-Are you okay?"

"Thanks…You really helped me out back there."

He could tell she was shy by the way she was acting and the fact that she was beginning to turn red so he didn't want to force her into anything she didn't want. He put his body into his iconic pose and shouted:

"I'm Natsuki Subaru! And I ask for your name!"

It was as if fate was the reason they were there together at that moment and it'd be only a matter of time for Subaru and Yunun's story to truly begin.
