Re: As My Heart Grows Cold

How long would it take for one's heart to grow cold due to familiarity? Is it really love if it doesn't last? If a moment lasted for eternity, would people really remain still so?

Unexpectedly, there were a lot of results.

"I thought your name was unique, I guess it's common in another place?"

I scrolled and looked at each and every profile picture that was displayed.

Most of the girls that popped out were from the western region of the world, and there were rarely anyone that belonged near Asia.

"I won't be making any progress with this..."

I filtered the location and started scrolling once more.

With precision, I scanned every girl that I saw, and most of them don't even have profile pictures. This would be bad if she's also one of these accounts.

"What's her surname?"

I could try and find out, but I fear that I would only be able to worsen my already stalker-like reputation on her.

"I'm out of ideas."

Such a waste of time.

I've spent so much of the night just looking for her instead of doing something meaningful.

Is it still worth it?

She doesn't know me anymore anyway.

"Esyllt, just how could we get in touch?"

If I just suddenly sent her an email that contained a message such as 'I came from the future' and 'you're my wife' bluntly, how would that person feel?

If I told her right away what her name was, how could I make an explanation?

I really, really want to talk to her right now, like how we used to be... before the break up of course.

"Ah, it's 11 PM already?"

Not sure what to do, I shut off the PC and decided to go to bed early instead.

Before I left my throne, I turned it on again.

"I must be getting crazy."

Like Aiden had suggested earlier, I should try to leave my PC on for the night. What do you know, she might actually just send me some sort of message.

"It should have been 'game time' tonight yet I don't even feel like playing."

After I left my game log in using my main character GK, I finally went to sleep.

...

February 13, Saturday---

When I woke up, there was some kind of noise from the kitchen so my spirits were a bit roused up.

"Oh, sorry. I forgot something. You did forgot about turning off your PC, though, so I turned it off."

"I see... Would you make me some.....!? You WHAT!?"

I rushed back my room and saw that my PC was really turned off. I was even expecting to see something after I had breakfast but then, this!?

"What, the electricity bills would pile up. It's not like you were playing while asleep right?"

I gritted my teeth as I held back myself from tearing him into pieces.

But thinking back towards last night, my energy suddenly plummeted, and I went near him and lightly slapped his cheek in a flicker.

"Dude, what? Here's your allowance for this week."

"Thaaaaaaanks..." I gave another quick slap to his cheek before I sat down and started to eat air.

"Did Esyllt reject you?"

"Nope. I'm out of hope I guess. Maybe I'll just pass the opportunity to know more about her."

"It's not like you to give up like this, huh?"

He wore his outer suit and proceeded near the door.

"The last time you said that Moriana girl would accept your courting. Turns out she didn't. But you still didn't letup and went for her until she almost made your cheek as red as a ham. Or did that not happen? Man I'm confused. Anyway, time to go, see ya."

He still had work even on a Saturday, I bet he's having a hard time so I don't want to let him worry about me, nor do I want to upset him instead.

I caressed my forehead until the back of my head and slightly relieved an incoming headache. My sight suddenly disappeared and was replaced by a static vision.

"Ugh, I hate this."

My head felt bad, and my whole body limped but I struggled to stand to not hit any other objects nearby.

It was probably anemia since my other classmates call it as such.

The event slowly passed by, and I could see once more, my body returning to its usual state.

I still felt so sleepy as it's still 4 AM in the morning.

Before I was about to make breakfast, I suddenly remembered something.

"Are they open at this time?"

...

I wore a jacket and went out the house. The air was still cold as usual, but I felt bad. This looks like an incoming fever, but I hope it doesn't become like that.

Since they've opened during the weekdays, I can't say that they're closed at weekends after actually confirming.

The path was as the same going to school, so there were no problems. It's only unusual that there are more people at this time, since it's a weekend. I thought people rested during these days and didn't go out of the house, but I guess I was wrong.

There were more joggers today. There were people that walked their dogs. There were kids that were already playing tag at this time, and the sun hasn't even risen yet.

"Do mornings usually go by like this?"

After a few minutes of walking, I finally reached the place... only to find out that it was closed. The rolling shutter door was fully on display, and the bakery wasn't open.

I was about to turn around when I suddenly heard a panting which had a familiar voice.

"They're closed... too bad."

Near the doors, a girl stood with casual clothes that I usually don't see because she always wore the same uniform when I see her at school. She only wore a white shirt with short shorts that were above her knee.

On our school, the skirts was always below the knee so seeing her white legs were quite unusual.

I also felt proud about myself that I once chose this person... it's just it's such a pity that she rejected me a lot of times, and it made me just give up about having feelings for her.

"How about buying some from the convenience store instead?"

She wasn't that tired from running but she actually sat on the asphalt on the ground, in front of the bakery as she glanced towards me.

Seeing her eyes lock on to me made me smile a bit, but I know in myself that she doesn't really like me so there's no chance of any kind of romance.

"What to buy then?"

I beckoned towards her and she stood up, before we went towards the usual convenience store that I go to.

"Welcome."

The usual indifferent guy lazily greeted us, and below his cap, I saw his eyes suddenly open up and somehow stared at the person on my side.

Now that I think about it, such a sight of a beautiful girl must be uplifting, as he stood straight and fixed his cap properly, before standing behind the counter while looking at us. Of course, I saw everything that happened only on the corner of my eye, but it was already enough for me to determine what just happened.

"Same as usual, mesmerizing."

"Shut up. This is comfy."

Ah, she knew I was talking about her. Talk about a smart girl, I bet she's not ignorant about the boys who want her for themselves, but until now not a single boyfriend in life. It's quite hard to be picky, but it's hard to be chained to someone that would only last for a short while.

We have the same perspective about having a single partner for life, and I'm also serious. I might even push myself to work hard if ever we get to be together, but she just shot down every approach I made.

"Here, and this one. I always buy this one."

There were times that I asked about what she wanted from a guy, and I believe that I'm possibly a fit.

I casually selected the usual sandwiches that I buy whenever I felt lazy making breakfast on the house and recommended them to her. If it's at least something that I've used to like, then she'll probably like it too.

"If you want any drinks, milk, soda, juice, or anything, they're over there."

"Nah. I made coffee at home and placed it on the freezer."

"Have you tried tea?"

"Tea is fine, but it's not as good as coffee."

Since we're done, we went to the counter and I could see the guy staring at her, which is on my side.

She placed the items and I handed the bills instead.

"Consider the treat, you're almost a guest anyway." I whispered to her ear. She still had signs of bed hair, but there were also traces of her hair already combed before she went out. There was also a certain smell I can't explain, but it's unreasonably fragrant.

Her hair partially covered my face as I whispered, and I could see the guy on the cashier silently click his tongue as he microwaved the sandwich.

Dude, if I can't have her, then you also can't. At least me being this close with her was some kind of a privilege and luck, since it's not everyday I see someone good for the eyes.

The sandwich finally finished heating, so we went out the store and I tapped her back.

"What was that for?"

"No reason."

"I..."

"Hm?"

It looked like she wanted to say something so I leaned over a bit towards her.

"Thanks for that earlier."

"Ah, you really did notice."

Then there was silence once more. She opened her sandwiched and started to munch on it. Her munching on it probably meant that it was at the exact temperature. Damn that guy, when I buy and get the heated sandwich, it always burns my tongue. That made me have a habit of keeping in inside the bag and eating it only later instead.

"You can have this."

She held towards me her exactly half sandwich that already had bites on it, and I took it.

"If there's nothing else, I'll be going."

"Sure."

I could only look at her back as she walked away, but I suddenly remembered something. The convenience store is much nearer than my house, so it wouldn't take very long if I showed it to her.

I ran towards her and held her shoulder.

"I thought we're done here?"

"I suddenly remembered something. It won't take five minutes, do you want to wait here or outside my house?"

She looked at the skies which were already turning in a brighter blue and pondered for a bit before responding.

"Sure. Five minutes, flat."

With that, I instantly started to sprint.

...

"I haven't even said if I'll wait here or at his house yet, though."

It's still just the first loop, and the first week took such a long time to write.
