“I should have just done what Jane wanted,” Libs growled in frustration. “If I had just done as she’d asked the first time around, I wouldn’t be in this situation.”
“You didn’t, though, and you’re stuck with that decision.”
“She keeps giving me second chances. I don’t understand why, because Jane is not otherwise inclined to mercy. If she’d just decide what to do with me, one way or the other…”
“She’s not deciding this, Libs. You are.” Stella sat him down at the bar and pushed his unfinished whiskey across to him. “You’re a valuable asset to her. She knows that if you join Rory’s side, she’s pretty much sunk.”
“Do you think I should?” He glanced at her face, but it remained carefully neutral.
“This is an important decision for you, Libs. It’s yours alone to make. I will not try to sway you either way, because the most imperative part of this decision is that it really is yoursand no one else’s.”
