Liberty is a vampire living on a space station on the edge of civilization, a place where only those avoiding attention from the government tend to land. Libs spends his days working for the gangster who runs the place. He is somewhat content with his lot in life.<br><br>Riordan Dalheart is a Ranger working as a government enforcer, and he's been sent to the furthest reaches of the galaxy on a secret mission. Liberty is immediately suspicious of his motives. Whatever his mission, Rory's presence throws a wrench into the finely-tuned dynamics of the space station, as well as upsets the balance of Liberty's life.<br><br>What is Rory up to and why is he here? Chapter 41

It seemed like forever before Stella returned, although it hadn’t been more than an hour.

“Has he decided?” he asked the moment she came through the door.

Stella sighed and shook her head. “He’s conflicted. I’ve never seen him like this before. I really think he will make the right choice, but…I can make no promises on his behalf.”

Rory released a harsh breath and ran a hand through his hair. “I can’t wait any longer to send my report. If we want help to face off with Jane, then I need to summon back up. I…don’t know what to do about Liberty.”

“What happens if you do report his presence?”

Rory clenched his eyes shut momentarily. “They’ll bring in a specialist with weapons specifically meant to kill vampires. It’s difficult to destroy them, but it is by no means impossible.”

“What will happen to you if you don’t report it, and then when back up does arrive, we have to fight him?” Stella swallowed hard, the tense lines of her jaw tightening further.
