14.) Katerina

Authors note: hey guys. Will be using this chapter to strengthen bonnie and Zach's relationship. I may put some Katherine talking to Elena in as it introduces us to klaus.

Zach

The entire ride home I was thinking. Analysing. I had held back trying to go for a real bite because I'd wanted to test myself against one of the best measuring sticks in this world.

He wasn't stronger than me. He just had a clear goal in mind. To kill me. The series always painted him in an honorable light, that is until the beast behind the red door storyline.

My face remained stoic but I couldn't help but feel a knot in my stomach. It was almost over that fast. Unlike a vampire, I can't die. A snapped neck is game over for a werewolf.

The car felt more and more stuffy as time passed by. I don't know why. Maybe being around vampires after having just almost died to one is sending my instincts into overdrive.

"Stop the car!" I say. Damon quickly pulls to the side.

"What the hell Zach?!" The older Salvatore asks me.

"Have to go." I say and blur away.

I get football fields away from the car and finally stop to take a huge breath of air. The weight of almost dying truly hit me. I assume I died in my last life but I can't remember it at all. This time though, I felt my neck about to pop before Damon incapacitated the original.

(Authors note: Zach doesn't know he's immortal.)

I get my bearings again before texting damon. Take off without me. I need some time.

I say hoping I don't have to explain to him my situation. No more than 30 seconds later I received a text back.

Fine. We're not far anyway. Have fun wolfie.

I shake my head and begin running again. I don't know what's wrong but I need to go.

Bonnie

I finally get back home after hearing from Elena. I walk into my room and prepare to pass out after the toll the spells took on me.

I turn on the lights and am about to put my pjs on when I get a text from Zach.

Hey, I know it's late but I need your help.

I thought back to the night he took my pain away. The way my magic seemed to pulse near him.

And finally I remembered those red eyes in the giant but gentle wolf. Eyes who looked at me like he could see through me.

Apart of me was scared of what that meant. I'd always been the girl others forgot about. They wanted Caroline or Elena. Those who did get close to me did so to get close to them.

But Zach is different. As far as I know he's said 5 sentences to Elena ever. While he and Caroline are close, the way he talks about her says he'd rather not be involved in that.

With those thoughts my mind is made up.

Sure. Come over. I just got home. Here's the address.

I send it to him and await his arrival by making sure I look out together in the bathroom mirror.

Zach

After arriving back in Mystic Falls I text the only person I can think of. Bonnie. I always felt extremely comfortable around her despite the fact she's one of the more powerful witches in the world.

Even if she's tied to Mystic Falls, so far she's been the only true friend I've found. Someone I don't have to keep at a distance.

I see her response and jump in joy before I blurred away.

I arrive at the address quickly and text, I'm outside.

I don't get a response and for a second I worry she's fallen asleep. That is until I see her window opening. She hangs from the second story window and falls. I rush up to her to make sure she doesn't break an ankle and catch her by the waist.

"What the hell are you doing?" I ask after ensuring I'd caught her and set her down.

She turns toward me and smiles, "there was no other way. My dad is still awake. Come on." She said shaking her keys.

I follow her to the car and we drive an all to familiar direction. North. Toward the quarry. Bonnie tried several times to start the conversation but I just shook my head.

Eventually we pull into the spot overlooking the water.

"Okay zach, what's wrong?"

I let out a breath and decide to see if I can explore my abilities more. "Maybe I can show you?" I question both her and myself.

"What do you mean?" She asks genuinely curious.

"Put your hands on my head." I say closing my eyes. After a few seconds of hesitation where Bonnie's heart kicked up from second to third gear before I felt her small hands encompass my temples.

I began trying to share my experiences. The images in my mind of my fight. After a few seconds Of nothing I feel it. See it myself. Bonnie's gasp tells me she's seeing it too. Good. No need for words.

Bonnie

While I was skeptical at first about the idea Zach had would work, soon I'm proven wrong when I feel my magic connect to him. In that moment I see the memories of him. I'm in the first person. I feel what he feels. The excitement, anxiety.

But the fear that comes in when the vampire almosr killed him sends a bolt of electricity through me. I feel the bones in my neck beginning to give.

I gasp and am suddenly out of the vision back in my car overlooking the beautiful black water that reflects the stars, creating a symphony of natural beauty.

I feel Zach's hand take hold of mine while that sensation of him helping me comes back. "I can see the still dried blood on your nose Bonnie. Is everything with you okay?" He asks me.

I nod. "Sometimes the spells take a physical toll on me."

He has a pondering face for a moment, "maybe your magic channels are trying to widen. I don't know forsure but I would assume most witches know they're witches all their lives. Meaning they've been channeling magic all that time.

Your magical channels on the other hand have been dormant and not excerised your entire life. Give it some time. You may find yourself become more and more resilient."

I try no to blush at his words. I know I've failed miserably. But oh well. He doesn't seem to want to dwell on it either. "That vampire I found today? That guy was 1,000 years old."

"What?" I ask in suprise. 1,000 years old? I can't imagine living that long.

Zach nodded his head. His appearance still marred by dry blood and out of place hair. "Yeah. And I can't get it out of my head how easy it was to kill him. How could someone like that live for so long?" He asks.

That brings me up short. I'd seen Damon stab and pin him up to the wall with the big stake. But what Zach is suggesting is crazy. "Vampires die from a stake to the heart Zach. Is a rule." I say trying to stave off the seeds of discomfort he'd planted with his words.

Zach sighs. "I don't know Bonnie. Something isn't adding up."

The rest of the night was filled with speculation about the unknown.

Next morning 3rd pov

Salvatore House

Elena knocks on the door. After a second Damon answers. "Hello Elena."

"Is stefan here? He called. Said it was important." The doppelgänger said.

"Right this way." The older Salvatore said.

Elena steps into the living room area and Stefan is there. "Hey."

"What is this about?" Elena asks. Stefan moves to the side to reveal rose.

"Okay, you have to understand I only know what I've been told. I don't know what's true and not true." Rose said pacing around in front of Elena before continuing. "That's the problem with all this vampire crap. But klaus? I know he's real."

"Who is he?" Elena asks.

"One of the originals. He's a legend." Damon replied.

Stefan cut in. "From the first generation of vampires."

"Like elijah?" Elena asks.

"No, Elijah was rhe easter bunny compared to Klaus. He was a foot soldier. Klaus was is the real deal." Rose said completely wrongly.

"Klaus is known to be the oldest." Stefan spoke hesitantly.

Elena begins putting things together. "Okay so, you're saying the oldest vampire in the history of time is coming after me?"

"Yes…" Dose began but is cut off by Damon.

"What they're saying is— I mean, if what she's saying is true.."

"Which it is." Rose cuts him off this time.

"…And youre not just saying it so we don't kill you…" he continued only for her to cut in again. "Which I'm not."

Damon finishes with, "then we're looking at a solid maybe."

Stefan spoke up, "Look, Elijah's dead right? So no one else even knows you exist."

"Not that you know of," Rose spoke.

"That's not helping." Damon said.

Stefan speaks, "look I've never met anyone who's even laid eyes on him. I mean, we're talking centuries of truth mixed with fiction. We don't know what's real. For all we know he could be some stupid bedtime story."

"He's real. And he doesn't give up." Rose says. "If he wants something, he gets it. If you're not afraid of Klaus then you're an idiot."

Elena gets up and begins leaving. "Where you going?" Stefan asks.

"School. I'm late." She replied.

Oh, let me grab my stuff. I'll go with you." Stefan said.

"That's ok. I know where it is." Elena says before walking away. As she leaves human hearing distance Damon speaks to Rose Conspiratorially.

"She's in denial."

Stefan looked back at him, "shut up Damon."

3rd Pov

In the woods

Elena and Caroline are walking. The doppelgänger is carrying a bag while speaking, "tell everyone I wasn't feeling well and went home."

"I can't believe I'm agreeing to this. I'm a terrible liar. I'm even worse at duplicity and you know this," Caroline said as they reached the enterance of the tomb.

"You managed to keep me occupied when Katherine paid Stefan a visit." Elena replied.

"Yea cause she threatened me." The blonde vampire responded. "Not that I'm saying that you should use that tactic. It's just…." She trails off and Elena turns around before she continues. "…Stefan's gonna see right through me."

"Caroline, I'm your friend. Do you promise or not?"

"Okay." She said

They get down to the enterance proper and Caroline moves the stone out of the way.

"Katherine?" Elena calls out before turning to Caroline. "I'll be okay."

As she's speaking movement can be heard and into the light stumbles Katerina Petrova. "Hello Elena."

Katherine begins to speak after taking a shot of blood. "It's a long story, klaus and I. It goes all the way back to England 1492, after I left Bulgaria. Or was thrown out."

"Thrown out?" Elena asks.

"My family, your true ancestors….they disowned me. My indescretions weren't tolerated at the time." Elena looks confused. "I had a baby out of wedlock. The shame. My baby was given away. After being thrown out I went to England and quickly learned how to be English. It was there I caught a noblemens eye. I was taken with him at first, until I found out what he was and what he wanted from me…and then I ran like hell."

Katherine explains how she became a vampire. How she used Trevor and Rose to make her escape. Just like the cold bitch she is. "You used them?" Elena asks.

"I was looking out for myself Elena. I will always look out for myself. If you're smart, you'll do the same."

At the vampire cafe

Damon and rose are talking to the information guy. Outside the establishment, Elijah Mikaelson puts a $100 bill into the guitar players suitcase in exchange for a handful of coins.

Dropping them between his hands he listens to the conversation happening between Damon , Rose , and Slater. "Here's what I don't get, Elijah moves around during the day which means the originals know the secrets of the day ring. Now, why would klaus want to break the curse?"

Slayer replied, "to keep the werewolves from Breaking it. Whoever breaks the curse makes the others keep their own for eternity."

Damon speaks, "what if we render the moonstone useless?"

"Yea but why would you do that?" Slater asks.

"Tell me how." The Salvatore replies.

"You think I'm going to help you how to piss off an original? And keep me from walking in the sun?"

"You wanna walk in the sun? I can make that happen, if you help us."

Elijah has heard enough. He throws the coins into the window protecting the cafe full of vampires that instantly begins burning people.

Amidst the screams Damon gets Rose to the car. "You're gonna be okay.." Damon said.

"I know." Rose replied.

"Who was that?"

"It's him it's klaus don't you understsnd?" She said crying. "You don't know this man. I'm dead. We're all dead."

End of episode.

Authors note: just wanted to clarify, think of a primordial wolf on the same level as the originals. Call the originals the counter to the primordial wolves. They were created years and years before but the bloodline was cursed to stay dormant.

Zach broke that curse by transmigration. It allowed a slight faltering of the curse for just enough time for the impact to occur which killed the other driver.

So, when the upgrades occur, he will take a serum of his own to become the super wolf. Aka the lycan.
