Primal online

Since childhood Wyatt has always followed the advice of the adults around him. Study hard! get a good job! honestly not bad advice the problem is that's all he has ever done. In the year 2200 the first immersive full-body VR system is being released and with it comes the insanely hyped MMORPG Primal Online. With everything, someone could ever want from a fantasy game, it's no surprise when it takes the world by storm. Never taking any time for hobbies or interests Wyatt's life has quickly fallen into a constant loop of mundane boredom waiting to be broken. This all changes one day when his cousin invites him to try this new game during a family get-together. It doesn't take long for a spark of interest to emerge. Disclaimer: This is my first novel as well as where I plan to simply practice writing to get more comfortable so I don't know how detailed or active it will be.

Myroc Trials (part 2)

The silence lingered in the air for another minute before a loud sound rang out

CLAP CLAP CLAP CLAP

following the sound, everyone looked up and saw the one giving the applause was none other than Nikolai himself.

"Congratulations Miss Hazel for achieving the first 4.5-star score in over 150 years I can't even begin to fathom the bright future you have ahead of yourself!" Nikolai shouted "It's my greatest honor to witness this historical day"

Hearing the mages words cheers and applause erupted through the crowd celebrating her achievement.

"WOOOO AS EXPECTED OF THE NEXT HEIRESS"

"A BEAUTY AND TALENTED CONSIDER ME A FAN!"

countless such chants rang across the field but Hazel didn't pay attention to them instead her eyes wandered across the scene in front of her until finally landing on one particular boy who was clearly trying to look away.

"Crap I can feel her stare even in this situation" Wyatt was already forming nervous drops of sweat on his back. It took him every bone in his body not to turn around and make eye contact with the girl and instead chose to remain in his current position until group 3 started their trials.

Luckily he didn't have to wait much longer as Nikolai couldn't afford to waste any more time and quickly teleported the next batch of competitors inside the tower.

VOOOSH

Appearing in a massive white room Wyatt opened his eyes

[Myroc Tower: Trial of Agility]

[Welcome to the Myroc Tower trial of agility! Once count down above you hits 0 small magical projectiles will appear in the room and shoot toward you. If you can avoid every projectile without being touched you will pass the round. The trial of agility is broken into 5 levels with each one getting progressively harder than the last, if you fail by getting hit by one of the magic projectiles at any point every challenger has 1 level retry chance. At the end of the trial, your score will be calculated out of 5 based on your completed levels]

Seeing the simple rules Wyatt mentally prepared himself and watched the counter.

[Trial Commencing]

WOOSH

Tilting his head to the left Wyatt dodged the first projectile with ease. 7 more projectiles immediately appeared launching at him this time he avoided them with a quick roll to the side then hopped over the last projectile.

The first level of the agility test proved to be extremely easy for Wyatt due to his high agility making him feel like the projectiles were moving in slow motion. In fact, the first level was so easy that Wyatt couldn't help but feel slightly disappointed.

A couple of minutes later the level ended.

"Hopefully the 2nd level is more interesting.." he said speaking out loud to himself

Sadly his hopes went unanswered as he easily avoided all the projectiles once again. At this point, Wyatt was praying that the whole Trial wouldn't be so boring.

BOOM

The third level Started with a bang as over a hundred projectiles appeared at once finally giving Wyatt a slight challenge.

Jumping backward he dodged a clump of projectiles before immediately rolling to the side once again. As he stood up from the roll a projectile whizzed past his ear nearly hitting him Wyatt couldn't help but smile.

"Now that's more like it"

Luckily Wyatt went through Saleens weird Potion bath making his body much more flexible than the average person.

Unlike the previous 2 rounds level 3 didn't seem to have an end to its projectiles.

Ducking and weaving in and out of the parade of projectiles Wyatt kept his performance up for another 3 minutes before nearly getting hit while trying to wipe the sweat off his face. Luckily he managed to barely avoid it by diving forward onto the ground.

[Level 3 complete]

Wyatt was starting to understand why the average scores every trial always lingered around 3 stars. It's no wonder so many people failed when the level of difficulty changes so quickly. Although Wyatt admitted to the challenge he wasn't nervous or worried at all instead he was actually beaming with excitement waiting for the 4th level to begin.

[Level 4 commencing]

Starting by running along one of the walls to protect his back Wyatt started the 4th round.

ZING

He barely avoided another projectile while ducking his head. Level 4 was still endless projectiles like the level before but this time the speed was increased to the point Wyatt didn't even have time to think about his moves and could only go off initial instinct.

Luckily compared to the average for his level Wyatts agility stat was shocking so with some well timed twisting and bending of his body he managed to successfully pass the 4th round.

Only round 5 stood ahead of him and Wyatt was starting to second guess his ability to succeed. He wasn't nervous or anything but Wyatt understood his own limits and knew if the projectiles got any faster he had little chance of avoiding them all.

Hearing the notification ring for the 5th round Wyatt got into his starting position.

5 minutes later Wyatt had a single thought

"Isn't this the same as the last level?"

Level 5 proved to be slightly longer than the last one but besides that, it didn't prove any more difficult. Wyatt didn't have time to complain since it was still very taxing on his body to constantly maneuver around the room avoiding projectiles but deep down he felt like something was off.

All of a sudden over 100 projectiles appeared on all 4 of his sides charging at him at a rapid speed.

In the few milliseconds he had Wyatt tried to find an open path but failed to notice anything before being struck in the back of his head

[Level 5 Fail]

Rubbing the back of his head that was stinging from the impact Wyatt was lost for words.

"how...."

He couldn't think of any way to avoid being surrounded on all 4 sides by a wall like that.

[Retry level]

[yes] [no]

Seeing the notification Wyatt had nothing to lose so he clicked yes.

A timer appeared above him signaling that the trial would begin in a minute. Wyatt knew he needed to think of a solution during this time or else he would meet the same fate as before. Sadly thinking up a perfect solution seemed impossible for him and with no other choice Wyatt decided he could only take a gamble when the time came.

[Level 5 commencing]

With the 5th level kicking off again Wyatt got back to his acrobatic moves. As the round neared its end Wyatt continued going over his makeshift plan in his head.

ZING

The walls of projectiles appeared once again surrounding Wyatt.

Without delay, Wyatt used all the lightning mana he could muster and congested it all in one of his feet. As he stepped on the ground with that foot he released all the built up pressure causing a small explosion under him to send his body rag dolling into the air.

"hu...huff...hufff"

The explosion was so painful Wyatt felt like his entire leg was incinerated. Luckily he managed to avoid the walls with his plan but as lay motionless on the ground in pain Wyatt watched in horror as a single dot started forming above him.

"crap.." He muttered

it was only a single projectile something Wyatt should've been able to easily dodge but after draining his entire mana pool and nearly exploding his leg off this projectile seemed to be the most threatening opponent Wyatt had ever met.

"no... I can't lose like this!" Wyatt declared trying to use every muscle in his body hoping to find a slim chance of escape.

With all the energy his body could muster he started rocking himself left and right trying to build momentum.

"please work.. please, please work" he prayed

As the final Projectile fell down toward him Wyatt took one last swing and using all this strength managed to create enough power to flip over onto his stomach. As the momentum carried him on his side he felt the pressure of the projectile skimming his back less than a hairs length away before colliding with the floor beneath him.

[Level 5 complete]

"haaa... I did it"
