CH93 (457), Awesome Surprise

Well, the month began just as I expected it to, namely great. While Palkiday, which was the first day, was calm, Tyrogue ended up advancing to the (high) bronze stage on Dialday. If that was not a great start to a new month, I did not know what was.

Still, I had planned to have Tyrogue evolve to Hitmonform once he reached the (high) bronze stage and fulfilled the condition of all parameters having the same value, which I was sure he could manage within a month or two.

Yet, he actually said that he did not want to do that, when I shared my idea with him after his advancement. Tyrogue said that he wanted to wait until he had reached the limit of the (high) bronze stage before going through with his evolution. The limit here was the regular one, meaning that all parameters had reached the A-value.

Naturally, I acquiesced so the matter of his evolution was postponed. I was guessing that it would take him somewhere between 6 to 9 months to reach that point if he focused solely on his parameters, but we both knew that he disliked doing that, so I was guessing it would take him more like 9 to 12 months instead.

Nonetheless, since the evolution issue got postponed, I decided to bring up something else that I felt was the time to talk about, so I brought up the option of choosing a name for him. We went through a lot of names, and I noticed that he did not seem to like mythological names and instead preferred rather regular/normal ones, so I focused more on those when proposing names to him.

In the end, we managed to bring it down to 4 possible names. Namely, Lee, inspired by Bruce Lee, which was actually a bit funny due to the existence of Hitmonlee and the fact that we were aiming for Hitmonform; Chan, inspired by Jackie Chan, which was also a bit funny for the same reason just with Hitmonchan;

Then there was Jet, inspired by Jet Li, and finally, Kimura, inspired by the martial artist Masahiko Kimura, who was a martial beast and one of the pioneers of global MMA. Tyrogue spent nearly 20 minutes contemplating those four options and ultimately decided that he liked Kimura the most, so from that moment on he went by Kimura.

Kimura was not the only one that got named that day since I believed that it was time for Mienshao and Pangoro to get their names settled as well, so I ended up discussing the issue with them as well.

Mienshao apparently had the same name-style preference as Kimura and ended up limiting the name list to May, Melinda, Yip, as well as Yim. She eventually settled on Melinda, which did not sound all that "martial artisty", but that was fine since it was the name she liked the most, and in the end, it was her name that we were choosing.

Unlike the other two, Pangoro seemed to like mythical names more, even if one of his 4 picks did not seem all that mythical. The one's he was considering were Jambavan, Artaius, Arun, and Po. In case it was not apparent, Po was the one that did not really sound all that mythical.

However, it was the name of Dragon Warrior Po, and I kind of added it as a semi-joke, along with all those godly/heroic names. Well, Pangoro ended up liking it the most, so the joke ended up being on me, I guess. It did kinda fit, so starting today he was Po the Pangoro, future dragon warrior.

I was only half-joking with the last bit. Who knew, maybe it would end up coming true as well. Regardless, we did celebrate Kimura/Tyrogue's progress as well as their naming, and since it was Dialday, starting the celebration at 9 p.m. was no problem. It did make me and everyone else go out of bed a bit later than usual, but that was fine since the weekend had graced us.

I did pay my parents a visit that day and stayed till Grouday night because it had been more than a month since I last went back home to Hope Town. I naturally called ahead to make sure they were at home and had no other plans. Mom and Dad were certainly happy to see me.

The second week did not have any notable events, or rather the workdays were uneventful, which meant that nothing notable happened at the lab. I chose to stay at Pallet City during the weekend and after spending the morning with my Pokemon, and handing out everyone's lunch, I decided to do some personal training.

I took a comfortable position and placed a gravity stone on my body to simply let it deal with the extra weight/pressure while focusing inward and training my psionic energy control, by spinning the gaseous energy as fast as I could without it going out of control.

That could actually happen and usually caused a short but really annoying/painful headache. It did work as a motivation to keep that from happening. Thankfully it did not have any other repercussions for now, which I had read would change after Tier 3 since the energy would no longer be nebulous, but in a liquid state.

Anyway, I did that for a good hour, reaching spinning speeds I had never reached before which was proof of my steadily increasing control. Still, while I was focusing on keeping the spinning nebulae from going out of control, the psionic energy at the center of the gaseous psionic energy nebula actually began to change from its gaseous state into a liquid state.

The moment that happened, I felt myself break through and actually reach Tier 3 Third-Class as a Psychic. However, that unexpected breakthrough also caused a break in my concentration and control of my psionic energy, causing the nebula to go out of control.

The minuscule amount of liquid psionic energy at the center remained there, but the rest of my still gaseous psionic energy spread throughout my mindscape, and a considerable portion actually spilled out of my mindscape, which caused me a killer headache.

This was the worst and longest failure-induced headache I had suffered so far. I was really thankful that only a small portion of my psionic energy had been converted and that none of the liquid energy had spilled out since that would have been really bad.

As it was, I only had to muffle some screams and roll around the floor for a few minutes before the pain went away, and I actually got to feel the changes my breakthrough had caused inside my mind/head. The biggest and most important change in my opinion was the addition of a third-thought partition/stream.

I had known that I would unlock it as soon as I reached Tier 3 Third-Class, and now that it had happened I was extremely happy to witness it for myself. Having more thought streams/partitions was really useful and I was happy about each one I could get.

I also noticed that my thoughts were running quite a bit faster and smoother which was a result of the computing boost I had received due to my breakthrough. I knew about two more changes that were supposed to happen upon reaching Tier 3 Third-Class, so I decided to test them out.

Testing the range of my passive psychic sense was super easy and I swiftly confirmed that my range had doubled, going from the 2.5 meters that I had managed to reach after a lot of hard work, straight to 5 meters.

The next test involved a new ability every psychic that reached Tier 3 unlocked upon their breakthrough, namely Minor Precognition.

The passive psychic sense range was important for that one since that was the range that the Minor Precognition could divine/foresee. As long as something entered that passive range Minor Precognition could be used to predict/anticipate it. It was a really useful ability, especially for fights or live experiments.

Unfortunately, the period that could be foreseen at the beginning was abysmal, but thankfully that span could be extended through training. For me, that period was about 0.3 seconds, which I could actually process thanks to my superior mind, but even if I was able to process it, my body could not really make much use of it yet at such extremely short notice.

The best I managed was a slight flinch, which could cause a minor deviation at best, and that was only for things that required on-point accuracy. Nonetheless, as I said the timespan could be extended and I was really looking forward to that, along with the upgrades I knew would happen once I managed to advance to Tier 3 Second and First-Class.

As far as I knew, from everything I had read up on the topic both inside my super library as well as from outside sources, I should be able to advance to Second Class once I managed to convert all my psionic energy into a liquid state, along with ensuring that any new psionic energy directly changed to liquid states well. I knew that I could do that once all my stored energy had been converted.

After that, it was a matter of once more growing my capacity/mindscape to advance to First-Class. Regardless, Yoruichi's advice did end up being true seeing how I broke through by simply keeping up my training and trying to increase my control/mastery over my energy as well as abilities. I could have done without the killer headache though.

Now that I was a Tier 3 Psychic, reaching Tier 3 as an Aura User was probably not far off since I have always advanced both professions/paths close to each other. Still, I had no idea how quickly that would happen. It could happen today or tomorrow, which I thought was unlikely, or it could take months for some of my aura to liquefy for the first time.

I was obviously going to keep up the control exercise in hopes of repeating the success, but personally, I thought that it would probably happen within the next 3 to 6 months. I was certainly looking forward to it.

I had to admit, I was a bit surprised to see that Utopia had not gone through an upgrade due to my breakthrough, aside from the central area growing a bit.

Apparently, reaching Tier 3 Third-Class as a psychic was not enough for Utopia, so I either had to do the same with aura for something to happen, or in the worst case it needed me to reach either second or even first class with both before it went through an upgrade. I was certainly hoping that it was not the last one.

Anyway, after spending about an hour or so checking myself to ensure everything was fine and to check the changes after my advancement, I directly made a trip back home to share the news with my parents.

They were really happy for me, though I could have done without Mom pinching my cheek as if I was a little boy. That I was factually still 12 on paper did not count since I looked older, but I knew that many parents still saw their children as their "little" children in their minds regardless of how old said children got.

In my case, that was a bit less weird since I was 12 on paper, but once you were 40 and your mother still occasionally treated you like a child that changed. Actually, it was not only the parents that thought like that, but it was also true for many older blood relatives, such as uncles and aunts. I did not have any of those in this life, though Aunt Lily and Uncle Thorn probably counted as such, just without the blood-related part.

Anyway, cheek-pinching-induced grumbling aside, I shared the news on our group chat once my parents were done displaying their happiness and affection. I quickly received a batch of congratulatory messages, though reading the joking one from Ace reminded me to write Yoruichi. Though, that reminded me that it was time to introduce her to the group chat.

She jokingly did pat herself on the back before congratulating me, though she wrote that she was hoping that I would reach Tier 3 as an Aura User soon since she wanted to take our tumbling up a notch. That woman truly kept teasing me whenever she could.

I obviously stayed over, seeing how I was already back home, and that night we had a party inside Utopia to celebrate my breakthrough. I only returned to Pallet City after dinner on Grouday, and once I was back in my dorm, I made my way inside Utopia for the weekly status check, during which I saw that Mienshao finished her second round of limit-breaking. That was good news that ensured that the new week began on a high note.
