"Charmeleon! Use Dragon Dance as you retreat" yelled Alex.
Charmeleon quickly retreated backwards, while performing a domineering dance that surrounded it with a purplish glow. It was visibly faster after this.
"Don't let him be! Chase and use Thunder Punch" yelled the boy standing opposite to him.
His Electabuzz obliged, and ran after Charmeleon, with its fist full of Thunder.
"Charmeleon, dodge and send it flying with Dargon Tail! yelled Alex.
Charmeleon did just that, and after connecting with Dragon Tail, crouched down panting hard.
"Electabuzz, use Thunderbolt" yelled the boy.
"Flamethrower! And then advance and use Metal Claw" yelled Alex.
Charmeleon fired a Flamethrower. It matched the Thunderbolt quite evenly, but a few sparks hit Charmeleon, while a few embers from the flame hit Electabuzz. Charmeleom cried out as it got close to Electabuzz and hit it with Metal Claw.
"Now finish it off! Use Flamethrower!" yelled Alex.
Charmeleon obliged, and a Flamethrower went straight for Electabuzz. The boy tried to get it to use Protect, but it failed as it had been used too many times by Electabuzz in the prior battle. A Pokemon could use Protect only so many times before it ran out of energy.
After the collision was over, a girl who was the referee walked over and announced, " Electabuzz is unable to battle. Since all three of challenger Guy's Pokemon are unable to battle, the winner is Alex and Charmeleon"
"Nice job buddy. You swept that jerk and showed him what you were made of. Return" said Alex as he withdrew Charmeleon into its Pokeball.
Charmeleon was at level 39, at a bottleneck before this fight. After it took out a Muk, Pidgeot and Electabuzz by itself, however, it broke the bottleneck and became level 40.
Its training was only 75% done, so it was wearing an Everstone again.
Its primary attacking method now was Flamethrower, Dragon Breath and Fire Spin at a distance while using Shadow Claw, Metal Claw, Dragon Claw, and Slash along with Dragon Tail up close. It also knew Scary Face, Smokescreen, Dragon Dance and Protect as supplementary moves.
Magnemite had evolved a while back and was now a level 44 Magneton.
Its primary way of battling now was using Light Screen, Reflect and Gyro Ball to tank an attack, and then fire back with Flash Cannon, Thunder Bolt or Tri Attack. If an opponent gets close, Discharge would be used. If the opponent was speedy, Swift would be fired. Iron Defence and Metal Sound could act as supplicant moves depending on the situation. Also, Magneton automatically comprehended Electric Terrain when levelling up, which is the ultimate support move for Electric types.
Lapras had reached level 31, a bit behind the other two, but it was still quite strong. It could skillfully set up an icy battlefield with Ice Beam, and slide across it at fast speeds. It used Ice Beam, Water Pulse, Ice Shard, and Body Slam as its primary means of attack. It could skillfully set up either rain or hail, with Rain Dance and Hail. It knew Sing, Round, and Hyper Voice to fill up the gaps in its attack. He had also thaught it Psychic and Thunderbolt as a type variation for its attack. This coupled with Mist and Ancient Power to deal with some situations, and Confuse Ray and Protect to deal with those who got too close.
This guy who just battled him, Guy, was one of the sponsored individuals of Professor Oak. His sponsorship was expiring apparently, and along with it would expire the free Pokemon Center visit, free storage at the Oak Corall, and free access to so many good trainers in the Correlation platform and its convince as a goods and information exchange platform. He had come hoping to have his sponsorship extended. There was not much promise left in him according to the Professor's opinion, and he advised him to settle down. The advantages he has so far would undoubtedly make the next part of his life quite smooth.
But Guy was unwilling to give up, and pointed at Alex, questioning his promise. There was also some name calling involved, which led to Alex's Charmeleon sweeping three of his Pokemon.
After Alex soundly defeated him, he looked devastated and slunk away. Watching his lonely back, Alex thought how cruel the world was to those with big dreams. He then looked at his bank balance in his Pokedex, and seeing the huge number that was still increasing, due to him continuously receiving royalties from a rather popular documentary on Slowking he smiled happily and thought, "So what if the world is capable of being cruel? With sufficient hard work, my previous life's memories and this cheat I have, I don't even need to dream to go ahead in life" he thought.
