It had been two weeks since the Fairy Project was completed. The Project lasted over 5 months. Professor Sycamore, Professor Oak and himself identified and studied all the Fairy Pokemon in every region and performed tests on them individually, to clearly establish this new Fairy type, along with its strengths weakness and its one immunity.
Professor Oak had told Alex that the research paper titled Project Fairy was submitted with all their findings by Professor Sycamore a week earlier. Professor Oak and himself were named as co-researchers by Professor Sycamore.
The Alliance still had a few problematic resistors, but with Professor Oak himself stepping up and saying he was a part of the research project they couldn't do much.
It was almost confirmed that the Fairy type would be officially announced soon. This time however, ot was not possible to make a profit with this revalation. Mass capturing and seeking of Pokemon was both illegal and way too heartless. A few individual Pokemon would give negligible profit even if exploited for sale value after the revealing of Fairy type.
But the method of 5 Eeveelutions he found would be a stable source of profit for him.
According to the laws of the Allaince, if anyone discovers the evolution of an existing Pokemon, and is able to reveal the method they used that would allow other trainers to do the same, he would be the copyright owner of that particular method for the next 50 years. Any trainers could still use the method for free, but if the evolution method was published in a book or video materials, they had to pay the copyright fee to Alex.
Slowking and Politoed were not immensely popular. Ever since the Oak Corall released details regarding them, Alex, as Professor Burns recived some money as copyright fee from a few text books and general information books that published his methods. The amount was above a million Poke overall, and it was just a few books.
For popular and common Pokemon, Eevee, interest on its evolution would be high. So lots of books would want to publish the details, and they would have to pay copyright fee to him. 5 times, as he had discovered 5 evolutions. And they would have to repay the copyright fee if they decide to reprint the book for any reason. Hence, while the immediate profit was not as much as the King's Rock's profits, over time, it would prove much more valuable and money providing than the King's Rock could.
Alex suddenly recived a text from Professor Oak, asking him to come to his office.
Alex knocked on the Professor's door.
"Come in" came the Professor's voice, and Alex walked in. He saw Professor Sycamore sitting in the office a long with Professor Oak.
"Ah Alex! I thought I should be the one to deliver the good news. The Alliance officialy accepted the Fairy type as the 18th type of Pokemon. It will be announced tomorrow across the world. Next year's PIT may have this included in the syllabus" joked Professor Sycamore.
"Thats wonderful Professor. Congratulations, you have accomplished the project you haf been working on for 5 years!" said Alex.
"Thank you. I am very happy that it is finally over. And I would also like to thank you both. If it weren't for your invaluable help, I dont think I coudl have accomplished this anytime soon" said Professor Sycamore.
With the reputation of being the on who discovered and proved a while new type, Professor Sycamore would be famous, and be able to further himself with the various money, connections, and respect he gained from this result.
After chatting for a while, Professor Sycamore said, "Allright then. I will have to get going. Now that this is done, I want to start focusing on a interesting project that I had been wanting to work on."
"Anything I would have heard of?" asked Professor Oak with interest.
"Depends. How much do you know about devolving?" asked Professor Sycamore.
"Slowbro will devolve back to Slowpoke if the Shellder is forcefully separated. While I don't know for sure, I assume its the same way with Slowking. The Beldum line can forcefully fuse with another to evolve, and forcefully split back up to devolve. But deveolving causes severe harm to both the Pokemon in all such cases. I dont know any other examples I think" said Alex.
"Well. I think that there is a Pokemon that can evolve and devolve as it wishes in Kalos. It is a secret ability of a long standing Gym and the clan which runs it. I was never allowed to study this strange phenomenon, but I think that there is another place with the same phenomenon. So I want to check it out" said Professor Sycamore.
