Chapter 062

Alex and Professor Oak were standing in front of a stone sculpture in the likeliness of Politoed.

According to the elder they talked to, the village had once been prosperous and well populated. But about a 100 years ago, some bewitched natives enraged the sun. The rage of the sun swept the land and turned all of the surroundings into a a desert. People and Pokemon died in large numbers. A tribe of Poliwag nearby decided to do something about it. They invited the villagers and other Poliwag tribes in the area to a ceremony. In this, they crowned one of their own their 'King'

Poliwag tribes were led by an individual or group of Poliwrath. There were no king to all the tribes before. This coronation was the first here.

The crowned king turned greener than the lush forest that once covered the land, according to the story. And he travelled around the barren lan, bringing rain with him wherever he went. The population of humans and Pokemon in area had undergone a hige decline. The Frog King then proceeded to expel all Pokemon except Poliwag and settled in a lake. The remaining humans decided to build a village near the lake and call it the Frog King's Village. Gradullay, people started all converging near the Frog King's Village.

The Frog King rarely appeared again, as the villagers lived in peace even since. There very few incidents of the Frog King reappering. 60 years ago, a swarm of Beedrill were expelled from the vicinity by the Frog King. 40 years ago, during a drought, the villager prayed to the Frog King and it rained shortly after.

About 80 years ago, the Frog King also apparently waged war with a Dragonite.

All these were oral accounts passed down in the village, as the villagers had neither papers not the habit or keeping records.

"What now Professor?" asked Alex.

"You know if trade evolution?" asked Professor Oak.

"Yes" replied Alex.

"Trading machines were invented 40 or so years ago. But Machamp and Gengar existed long before the trade machines did. Before the trade machines, the way for them to evolve was to be acknowledged as 'superior' by hundreds of members of their species. How trade machines stimulate the same is a mystery" said Professor Oak.

"So you think that Politoed is a trade evolution Professor?" asked Alex, panicking on the inside.

"It could be. I need to run some tests to be sure" said Professor Oak.

"You stay here for some more time. I will go out saying I am trying to explore the way back, and return to Pallet Town. Try to see if you can get more information in the form of legends and stories. You can give your spare Pokeballs to the villagers willing to speak. Also, dont exchange Water Stones for Pokeballs. You can accept them if they are gifted to you or you search them for yourself though. And Nidoking's Pokeball shall remain with you" said Professor Oak.

Alex remembered the Professor was trying to get a law passed against the exploitation of natives of smaller settlements who dont know the exchange rate and thus suffer a loss. His words proved that he did it not just for appearing kind, but because he had this cause in heart.

"Yes Professor" said Alex. The Professor nodded and called Alakazam out of its Pokeball and teleported away.

Alex walked back to the village and decided to visit the very old man he had a potted chilling under a tree earlier.

"Good afternoon Grandpa. And how are you doing today?" greeted Alex.

The old man sat up, and smiling said, "I am fine. A traveller eh? Do you have some interesting stuff you can give me?" he asked, eyes shining.

Alex took out an unused Pokeball, handed it over to the old man and said, "I am interested in the wonderful legends of your town. Maybe you could tell me about them?"

"Of course" said the old man pocketing the Pokeball. You asked the right person. I have lived the longest among those who are alive in the village. If you are looking for the Frog King, I can tell you with confidence that it left 80 years ago. I was a child back then, but I personally experienced the Dragonite war. The expelling of the Beedrill and the summoning of rain during the drought was a joint effor by all the Poliwrath. This is because after the Dragonite snatched the necklace it wanted and fled, and the Frog King chased after it. It has never been seen by anyone since" he concluded.
